NiceWayToDoIT··on Yep: Google alternative that shares revenue with creators – by Ahrefs
We live in a pyramid, so not everyone can live of art/sport. For instance there is 87 million tennis player in the world, but only 1000 or less players actually earn enough money to live comfortably. Wile most of the earnings is withing top 20. Production level are not enough to give everyone a life they would like to have.

Maybe redundant, but how do you actually join? On their web site I do not see any partner etc. page, so how do they actually share that profit? I have so many questions: - how do they share profit? by number of visits? then how to avoid fake sites and those that copycat other ppl content? ...
NiceWayToDoIT··on Emerging evidence that mindfulness can sometimes increase selfish tendencies
The entire concept of thinking in the article is kind of wrong.

If we ask again what is mindfulness technique and what is created for, we will arrive to answer that it is technique from Buddhism, meant to liberate us from world, and repeated cycle or rebirth and suffering. Regardless of what you believe pause there and ponder. Forget for a moment whether you believe in after life or not. If we think about the end goal "liberate from the suffering" liberate from world and minds game.

So, we took a tool which should liberate us from world to become more productive?

Isn't our usage premise wrong? Of course there will be side effects, if you "abandoning" everything that is world game and keeps you worried or money looking animal, why is so strange that there are side effects as selfishness? First stage of going inward is removing everything around you, and by seeing true nature you stop caring. But by stop caring suddenly, you see that as explained in many scriptures 'good or bad do not exist' there is only constant change.

Imagine you are child and you are with other children playing in the court, they ask you to join and you refuse. You say "I do not want to be in the game", and they reply "Why not?! C'mon we need extra player, here, you can be on a good side", you reply "I do not care about game, sides, manipulations, or you, in fact in this moment I do not exist"... from your perspective this is valid, from other children perspective you are selfish.

Also question of quilt is inverted. Who expect guilt we as society, or the individual?

NiceWayToDoIT··on I am the healthiest person I know, and I got cancer
> "All the money in the world can’t buy you perfect health, and it is crazy how many just ignore it. Small changes to diet and physical activity can go a long way in improving health."

This is so confusing for me, with the sense of helplessness, so she saying small change to diet or physical activity, and that she was healthiest person in world but still got sick, so what is the point than ?!

I mean you can do everything and still get sick, and some people drink, smoke eat junk food and never get sick, so what gives?

I mean more or less it looks like lottery with different probabilities, you can do all good and still pull unlucky card, or you do all bad and you still have health lucky card.

I guess, for me most depressing is how little we know about the cancer and things that causing it...

NiceWayToDoIT··on Nuclear war probabilities are useless - counter to the nuclear gambler’s ruin
Idealism, nationalism, fascism... are forms of corruption, but in this case there is inherited problem with aristocratic corruption, the one that allows people with lot of money to command most deadliest weapons on the planet. When you think about nowadays leaders and there structures are not very different from mafia bosses behaviors, and I am not talking about Russia only, each super power has the same problem.

NiceWayToDoIT··on To reduce student suicides by hanging to fans, institute in India removes fans
Imaginative scenario so to politely avoid pointing finger to overly corrupt governments and individuals that could use similar excuse to limit your freedom, in one way or another.
NiceWayToDoIT··on To reduce student suicides by hanging to fans, institute in India removes fans
As there are many ways to commit suicide, school could equally tie everyone in padded cells, and tube feed students in order to avoid any suicide.

Be careful when using such studies, as future AI may use those and similar - to remove all freedoms from humans, arguing that humans are dangerous for themselves, thus creating new Matrix?!

Root cause can be maybe a terrible education system and society that is fit more for robots then humans. It just feels wrong blaming individuals for not wanting to participate in it.

I was hopping for list of ideas, like what kind of investment give how much return, along with the risk:

- real-estate -?

  - rent vs flipping
- pension funds - ?

- mutual funds - 5-8% annual?

- stock market -10%-20% over 10 years?

- bank savings 2%?

Strategies ?

Diversification ?

NiceWayToDoIT··on Reality shifting: an emergent online daydreaming culture
Not if you have aphantasia.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29365277

NiceWayToDoIT··on Aphantasia
I am good at drawing, but only for things that are in front of me. Issue, is I can recognize face in split second, but I cannot recollect face. And, as I cannot recollect I cannot describe, if I say let say friend John, what I get is just abstraction of John, void blob. Someone already mentioned - imagine there is hash function, so once someone uses his password (face) I exactly know who is the person, but if you say persons name, nothing comes back, even remembering what he said, how he behaved or else, will not give me picture of person so I can use it from memory do describe and give distinctive features except he has two ears, nose, two eyes, maybe glasses, is bald... issue is you could explain same way most of the people.
NiceWayToDoIT··on Aphantasia
I have aphantasia but somehow I am having a feeling it is self induced. Let me explain. You know how in movies sometimes people who have hallucinations (basically uncontrolled prophantasia) start screening in terror because of the horror images they see.

So, good portion of my life my dreams were black and white and they look like room with under the strobe light. Only rarely I could see horizon in "outdoor dreams" or colors in my dreams. But, from time to time I have vivid color dreams, and even fewer of those, look like a reality.

So, when I started practicing meditation coupled with imagination and visualization of objects phantasia improved a bit, but dreams improved ten fold. But, soon as it improved a bit I stop practicing, I did not know why.

So, few weeks ago I started again, and few days I had a extremely sharp dream in which I saw viper snake attacking me, it was so vivid that I jumped out of bad. And while opening eyes, that image was still there, "snake" in the dark, on my bed.

So, my question is what if subconscious mind is doing it in order to protect us? Basically shutting down parts that feel unbearable for emotions to handle. Has anyone else had similar experience?

Additionally, when I have gimps during visual streaming (practice designed to improve visual imagination) objects are too complex and moving to fast, it is like video is streamed into my mind and I cannot control it. Last thing I remember is seeing some kind of very complex puzzle, element that was reshaping in breathing very rapid motion. Also those streams look more like AI generated visuals, they kind of looks as something but you cannot recognize anything.

Something like: https://twitter.com/revrart/status/1463518351498563585 and "Name one thing on this image" https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/029/455/Scr...

So, I guess if I would have those all the time, my sanity would be in question, so I suppose "slow conciseness" in order to sustain itself needs to "shut down" certain brain function, or optimize skills we used the most on expense of others, for instance I am good with imagining abstract things and logic.

I would like to know how to invoke those visualisations on demand, but it seem they just happen.

What I also find strange is that people who can vividly imagine, cannot recollect people faces. On the other hand, I cannot describe any face, not even my closest love ones, but I can recognize them. I could not describe anything to let say a police photo robot how crime suspect looks like, but I could pick it from the line among thousand of faces.

I am finding that very strange, it is like having one directional mind, in the sense you can understand foreign language (read/listen) but you cannot create your own sentences, write or speak.

Some of explanations sound (no pun intended) as Woody Norris best-known invention, HyperSonic Sound technology (HSS). HSS, or directional sound, targets a listener with sound waves similar to the way a laser beam directs light, so that the individual who is targeted is the only one who can hear it.

NiceWayToDoIT··on Why time “speeds up” as we get older (2019)
Interesting view, I thought it happens as with computers, that your memory gets saturated with wast amount of things and emotions, so your CPU with age starts getting slower, and as it slows down as your brain does not work as fast as when we were young, we perceive time as it appear to pass faster.

But it seems according article my perception was wrong ...

Please, I would appreciate, someone who knows more Philip K. Dick work, is this autobiographical story, or work of fiction?

I mean is it like "The Blair Witch Project" where they made horror to deliberately look like a documentary.

This to me looks like fiction/autobiography made deliberately to like a fiction/reality fractal, sentences look like personal experience but again I have a feeling Philip is trying deliberately to push our psyche deep into the spiraling rabbit hole or unknown.

> The hardest part of explaining something complex is matching it to the recipient's existing frame of reference.

Nicely said, I was trying to say that significant number of us is quite bad at it. And on the other hand, if frames are completely different, first compressed explanation looks like "noise noise word noise noise ...". On the other hand, often I see people struggling to start explaining as they know they will loose 30 min of time just to get to basics, so saying "I need computer in smallest box" - can be translated to "I want you to trust me and not bore me with you daily sale's pitch script you have learned by cart, I do not have time explain, I just need what I want not what you want to recommend me, unlike other customers I do not need your assistance I just need you to give me what I want. If customer is always right, just give me what I want, and I will make a purchase and you can move to the next customer."

Sometimes I think that this inpatient arose from search engines, where you type at most 3 words and you get your 10 results you were searching for. So, I assume it is reflected how we communicate with other fellow humans, demanding immediate results instead of 2 way communication.

We can argue it is rude, but for person who built his strong will over years in a hard way, attempt of manipulation and selling is also rude and intruding.

I do not have you ever been to Turkey or Greece where you have these shop owners who are literally trying to drag you in to the shop so you can buy something. For them it is like a ritual or the game, but if you do not want to be part of that theater show, you will find it very annoying.

In many Balkan countries they will ask you multiple times to eat or drink, and polite answer is "I cannot" but if you give that answer it is basically conversation starter for "Why? Are you ok? Is there something wrong...", it is part of social game to continue conversation. If you answer "I don't want to" although it is technically most correct, you will be showered with responses as "that is rude", "we will not poison you", "why is something wrong with my food", "why are you angry at me" ... and all you wanted to say is "I do not need any food or drink at this time as my body does not needed it, and I am perfectly content with my energy and liquid levels" :)

So, for many technical persons, who live most of their live in their own head, trying to juggle multiple ideas and resolve who knows what, small talk can be a major annoyance.

And I do not want to start with "this is secret project idea I am working on, I should not share it with anyone, someone may steal my idea ..." and everything along those lines...

NiceWayToDoIT··on Willingness to look stupid
I think it is measure of time, for author it looks simple to put everything in few words instead of having long explanation, I find this typical in IT, where my coworkers all the time trying to compress explanation in fewest words possible. Maybe laziness or type of optimization, but usually back fires as other people ask you multiple questions, arising from their own point of view.
