what is correlation and causation?

still one of my favorites

Our current political climate is due to their voting patterns over the last 30 years.

Realizing that you probably can't support the same lifestyle that you grew up with can feel like failure.

Unfortunately, many of the people that grew up in Calfornia/NY/etc have the view that there are a maximum of maybe 5 states worth living in.

I haven't seen much reporting of it growing.

>If he could do it in the situation he grew up in, anyone can.

This is a terrible mindset to have.

I wonder if we will see another extension since Mickey is getting close to the chopping block again.

There are shortages in a private healthcare system. If you can't pay, you don't get treatment.

Because [a rapidly diminishing number of] people still believe that they have value.

Because it makes powerful people fabulously rich. That is all you need to know.

I meant it the other way around, in case it wasn't clear. My childhood pet is still alive, and it's depressing to think about the fact that it wouldn't be if it had been a dog.

My family got a parrot 22 years ago when I was a kid. It's a bit depressing to think that if we had gotten a dog or a cat, it would have been long dead by now.

also really interested in hearing the background

The fact that US life expectancy has fallen for 2 years in a row speaks volumes.

edit: lmao please explain the downvotes

You won't get an answer to this.

Who is sending passwords in cleartext on the wire?

What public union is spending millions of dollars on elections?

Oh, so it was a bug, huh? I found it so irritating that I just removed my phone number from my facebook account altogether, because I couldn't find any setting that would make them stop texting me.

So you're saying poor people in the US don't matter because they bring down the average?

"But the free market..."

It really does seem like the early to mid 2000s was the pinnacle of the mod scene.

You have no power to "negotiate" as an Amazon warehouse worker.

That kind of stuff permanently damaged my ability to enjoy using C++.

I've had large parts of my feet numb for over 7 years and parts of my right hand numb for about 2.5 years. Doctors were never any help.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 4. They were so infected, that they basically fell apart shortly after removal.

There is a famous Lee Atwater (Republican strategist) quote that illustrates this perfectly. There are some ugly words in it that I will not censor, because our history is ugly.

Atwater: Y'all don't quote me on this. You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger". By 1968 you can't say "nigger"—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me—because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this", is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger".

No idea why this is getting downvoted.

My first game of the point and click adventure genre was Return to Zork, which I believe was released a few months prior to Myst and had many similarities, but was never nearly as popular for whatever reason.

I've never understood people having significant trouble adjusting their sleep schedule by one hour twice per year. Do these people never travel? You don't fly somewhere 3-4 time zones away and stay there for a week and then come home and adjust? I barely even feel a one hour change.
