NanoWar··on Deutsche Bahn "joke" is no longer funny
They can't just add 20 min to the arrival time on the schedule, so I do it in my mind. I just assume a bit of delay, like any reasonable adult when doing any trip and just don't have that negative vibe, where you say "not on time, again". For me DB is still the best way to cover long distances in Germany.
NanoWar··on OpenAI GPT–6 Astra breaks Enigma message that has resisted solution since 2005
Coincidence that I saw the Veritasium Story about Enigma just yesterday?? Nice
NanoWar··on A simple API for offering your coding agent a smoke break
How many agents smell the honey pot??
NanoWar··on Show HN: Boxes.dev: ditch localhost; run Claude Code and Codex in the cloud
I believe this to actually be the silent majority. But of course our job is object to a lot of changes right now and people are nervous what the "next job" will look like. You can hold position like me and just take the the new tools when they are well tested and integrated, be pragmatic about it. Fingers crossed!
NanoWar··on Claude Opus 4.8
Just show me the pelican, ah wait we are past pelicans. Can we get something like that ever again?
NanoWar··on An AI coding agent, used to write code, needs to reduce your maintenance costs
First Agent I used: Do a proper code review of the changeset, it adds comments in my merge requests. Then the junior devs paste these into their IDEs and loop forever :-P
NanoWar··on Boris Cherny: TI-83 Plus Basic Programming Tutorial (2004)
It was OK, just needed to memorize the commands, they are all reachable via a combination of number keys :-)
NanoWar··on XOR'ing a register with itself is the idiom for zeroing it out. Why not sub?
XORing just feels more like xxxxing out the register. SUB feels like a calculation or mistaken use of a register.
NanoWar··on Antimatter has been transported for the first time
One cannot image what would happen if antipasti and pasti collide!
NanoWar··on 1M context is now generally available for Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6
I'd say the chance of me one shotting C++ is veeeery low. Same for bash scripts etc. This is where the LLM really shines for me.
NanoWar··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
My fav tree today: https://www.dwitter.net/d/34638
NanoWar··on Germany outfitted half a million balconies with solar panels
I moved from Hamburg (north) to close to Munic (south) and the difference is huge. I can see the blue sky, for example! So much better here.
NanoWar··on Ask HN: What is nowadays (opensource) way of converting HTML to PDF?
We use this in production and it's very stable. It also supports background gradients which we wanted to use so badly :-) Can recommend
NanoWar··on Show HN: I built an AI that turns any book into a text adventure game
How do you come up with this? I feel it is quite hard to formulate exactly what you want from the LLM in general. Is this something you exercised? So good. Or just output from another AI, who knows haha
NanoWar··on Extreme skydiver Baumgartner dies in paragliding accident

NanoWar··on "AI" on a Calculator (2023)
Cool project! And what a suitable domain name you got there Kerm :)
NanoWar··on The State of the TI Community (1999)
It's because a lot of us used to use a calculator in school and some (like me) learned to code with it. Actually, I used dwedit.inc a lot in the beginning and loved dragon warrior monsters as much as you! What a great time. Thank you.
NanoWar··on Curl native support for –aws-sigv4 (2023)
I had fun recently to make such a request in C#. In the end I ported the code from the aws typescript implementation to C# which was surprisingly easy: https://gist.github.com/NanoWar/788860d74c49f337f4c3dab6dd24...
NanoWar··on Hackers discover how to reprogram NES Tetris from within the game
Off topic, but hey is that you, Dan from the old Ti83 World? Thanks for the huge include file and I loved your work on DQM ;-)
NanoWar··on Show HN: Htmldocs – Typeset and generate pdfs with HTML/CSS
I have used Gotenberg [1] in a production environment. Dockerized in a Kubernetes Cluster. It just works! I can absolutely recommend it. Uses Chromium under the hood and was able to render gradients and text shadow, nice! [1] https://gotenberg.dev/
NanoWar··on At what age should a teenager be given a cell phone?
10
NanoWar··on Ask HN: What boosted your confidence as a new programmer?
The best confidence boost is when someone uses your software and talks about it! Happened to me when I was young and programmed a game at school on a calculator and everyone wanted it, sent via link cable :)
NanoWar··on People competing to make the worst computer games possible
Here is the original Post by Jim: https://csscgc23.blogspot.com/2023/04/asl-2023-jim-waterman....
NanoWar··on Meta AI Unleashes Megabyte, a Scalable Model Architecture
Missed opportunity to call it METABYTE!
NanoWar··on Ask HN: How to generate PDFs from the back end?
I can absolutely recommend "gotenberg" in a docker and some react web app to render the actual web app!
NanoWar··on TIWiFiModem: Take your TI-83 Plus online [video]

NanoWar··on Ask HN: How do travel-based startups cope with the expensive Google services?
I think maptiler might be what you are looking for: https://www.maptiler.com/server/
NanoWar··on Signal Introduces Stories
I am a happy user of WhatsApp's Status and am actually really looking forward to Signals take!
NanoWar··on Maps.earth – free and open-source web maps
You can spin up an own instance in a docker container easily (if you self host everything anyways).
NanoWar··on Ask HN: How do you stop time wasting on the internet?
Best way for me is to move the browser app icon to a different position (on mobile) so that I don't find it immediately. That way I hesitate a moment and sometimes don't start wasting time.
