If someone makes a comment that sounds like they state a fact, I want to know who or what they are quoting. That's usually how it's being done in academia. I don't know why some people think that HN, or any other forum for that matter, isn't worth doing the same. You can't just throw something in and expect people to take it.

That's a fairly cavalier attitude to a mater that can get very costly. Scare letter or not, this is definitely a case where you better err on the side of caution.

There are certainly ways to recover from such episodes but if the people who caused that episode had the capacity to, as the article puts it, "put your hands up and say sorry", they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

Another proven tactic is sitting it out. Just disappear from the surface of the, well, Internet. People tend to forget rather quickly and the next Facebook/Reddit/Twitter meme is just around the corner.

There is shareit.com but I would not really recommend them. They basically do the work but there are some things that started me looking for alternatives. But if you're stuck with either shareit.com or nothing, at least you would have shareit.com.

I don't think that SaaS companies have specific marketing demands. Like any other business they'll need to find where their potential customers are and make themselves known to them.

There are people who say that clean URLs are SEO crap. What do I say to those?

I've done that already with missed+cake+day and forgot+cake+day yesterday and it yielded a couple of sign-ups.

Let me elaborate. All I see is a blank page. Making a basic page that works without JavaScript is not that hard.

I second this. We publish our blog posts on our web app's homepage. Judging from the feedback we receive, people actually read those.

Believe it or not but there are heavy user on all of those websites who probably love those apps. They are the target audience for those apps (even if the app publishes don't realize that). Only because those websites are less famous than e.g. reddit or HN, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't offer their own app.

The real issue here is how they inform you about this app. The less intrusive and obnoxious they do this, the better, obviously.
