Maybe instead everything will turn into microtransactions! The car is free, but it's 10p to unlock your door, 50p to start the engine, 5p every gear change, etc...

Google have managed well enough without giving a flying fuck about any of their products or users for over 20 years.

Oh, if only it were that easy! Just get the dotcom that's already registered or otherwise costs £3,995/year bro!
NackerHughes··on Walking Normally: The Facts (2013)
Ignoring the god-awful attempt at "humor" that I just killed a few of my brain cells by glancing over, I was sorely disappointed this wasn't an article discussing the characteristics of how people walk and what constitutes walking 'normally'. As anyone who's been ostracised and victimised for "walking weird" will tell you. When you ask the honest question of how one is supposed to "walk normally" so you stand a fighting chance of being treated like a human being by the vain, Darwinistic sociopaths that make up the rest of society, the answer you get is invariably radio silence. Because these scum don't want you to know how to walk in the way that they deem acceptable. They want to be able to invent something to point and laugh at you about, to drag you down and beat you into submission for the heinous crime of not putting one foot in front of the other in the unspoken "correct" way, to tear every bit of self-esteem out of you until you're nothing but a servant to them - wanted when you're useful, disposable otherwise.

NackerHughes··on Ministry of Freedom – GNU+Linux laptops with Libreboot preinstalled
Moore's law has pretty much flattened out since around the early 2010s. Most new laptops for sale these days are Core i5 ~2.5 GHz with 4-8 GB RAM and 'HD' integrated graphics just like they were 10 years ago.

Lie that you care about user privacy, give sucke- I mean, users' data to law enforcement anyway, blame the users when they get nailed due to your snitching. It's a perfect business model!

NackerHughes··on The Principles of Newspeak (1949)
> Even in the early decades of the twentieth century, telescoped words and phrases had been one of the characteristic features of political language; and it had been noticed that the tendency to use abbreviations of this kind was most marked in totalitarian countries and totalitarian organizations. Examples were such words as NAZI, GESTAPO, COMINTERN, INPRECORR, AGITPROP.

> I hope this is not yet another redesign for a desktop app that tries to make it look like a mobile app by removing features and adding gratuitous amounts of whitespace.

I've got some bad news for you.

NackerHughes··on Learn CSS
Sadly, the trivial CSS solutions are often not supported by some browsers that a lot of people use (apart from the obvious IE, Safari on both Mac and iOS is possibly the worst offender for this), making the godawful JavaScript solutions a tragic necessity.

I'm glad we sacrificed any concept of hierarchy, scope and structure so that CSS files can be parsed by regex.

As I recall, the 'View As' was a feature, allowing you to see your own profile and posts as would be seen by another person, so you could make sure your post privacy/visibility settings were set up the way you wanted. I used the feature quite often and was quite annoyed when they disappeared it one day. Do you have more info on this?
