There's a line somewhere between vaguely imitating sounds and actually imitating speech, and I think this duck is on the side of the former.
Erm... I think that says more about researchers having bad pattern recognition machines rather than ducks speaking human words.
"The chickadees, Luce. it sounds like they're saying 'cheeeseburger'."
Finally, it's been proven!
What are parrots?
And yet monkeys & other primates can’t seem to. That is strange
It's just a matter of how their vocal cords are built.
Basically birds vs primates divide is like this: being able to imitate sounds without understanding vs understanding but being unable to speak, and using sign language instead.
