NTripleOne··on You do not need email confirmation in your sign up flow
I mean yeah it's hyperbole but still, it seems like it happens on the vast majority of sites I try to do a social registration with.
NTripleOne··on You do not need email confirmation in your sign up flow
>With social login, users start using the app immediately

Given that 99% of the time sites implement social logins as "let's automatically fill out your username and email address in the sign up form", that's far from true.

NTripleOne··on Why American Workers Now Dress So Casually
One of each colour, I'd wager.
NTripleOne··on Helping a Million Developers Exit Vim
Fine by me, that's more time I can spend not having to read manuals to use a text editor. :^)
NTripleOne··on Xperia Touch makes any surface interactive
I mean if all you want to do is scroll through recipes in a browser, you could get away with one of those ridiculously cheap chinese tablets that cost like $30.

Or a first gen nexus 7, they're piss cheap now too.

NTripleOne··on How the Beatles Wrote ‘A Day in the Life’
Yes that's just what we need, more paymetons exclusive content.
NTripleOne··on CEOs Want Their Offices Back
Buy some o-rings, they really do help with the bottoming out noise. Alternatively, train yourself not to bottom out.
NTripleOne··on CEOs Want Their Offices Back
Also be careful not to point out that "keyboard noise" is the crux of the issue, since then you'll end up with those employees being told they can't use their nice keyboards that they probably paid a lot for just to use at work, which will result in said employees really, really not liking you if they find out it was you that complained.
NTripleOne··on CEOs Want Their Offices Back
I couldn't care less for efficiency, I'm going to get roughly the same amount of work done in a shitty office and in a good one, that's just how I am - but it would make me a helluva lot happier and allow me to actually enjoy doing the job I should enjoy.
NTripleOne··on Microsoft’s New Patent Identifies Pirated Content: Flags Repeat Offenders
>The company aims to use the patent to disable prohibited content and identify repeat offenders in service provider storage systems.

So onedrive, more than likely.

NTripleOne··on Snapchat installs fell 16% in April; Instagram continues to pull further ahead
It doesn't help that their application is a buggy mess either - I can't remember the last time I managed to wrangle snapchat into taking a landscape snap.
NTripleOne··on WCry 2.0 functions perfectly under Wine
>I haven't noticed much of a difference. Even if there is, there's the matter of the Mac price tag. and the utter agony of using a Mac if you're used to Windows.

>If you lack the budget for a Mac but you want to do graphic design, Windows is the logical choice.

That comment got flagged (wasn't mine), and this one probably will be too. Holy fuck the apple worship on this site is strong sometimes.

NTripleOne··on How to shoot on iPhone 7
Not an issue I've ever had to deal with, I buy my phones, not get them on my contract.
NTripleOne··on Caffe2 adds 16 bit floating point training support on the NVIDIA Volta platform
it seems increasingly common that that's the team red mantra nowadays, "Wait for x".

Wait for ryzen.

Wait for vega.

Wait for ryzen again.

NTripleOne··on How to shoot on iPhone 7
Well those first two points are completely contradictory so I won't even bother humouring the rest.
NTripleOne··on How to shoot on iPhone 7
Good job you install your own preferred flavour of android on it, then.
NTripleOne··on Windows 10 on ARM
Are you the developer of Frozen Elsa Anna Lego Movie Pregnant Tooth Extraction and Foot Doctor 7 by any chance?
NTripleOne··on A crashed advertisement reveals logs of a facial recognition system
Hah, that's brilliant.
NTripleOne··on Quantum Up Close: What is a browser engine?
I have no idea what I am doing. :(
NTripleOne··on Stanford adopts JavaScript, drops Java for its intro to CS curriculum
The bigger question would be why is university your first exposure to programming if you're a CS student?
NTripleOne··on Show HN: EuroKeks, a stock exchange parody for memes (35.000 orders processed)
Hah, you beat me to it. I was in the conceptual stage of something very similar to this.
NTripleOne··on Dogs Are Doggos: An Internet Language Built Around Love for the Puppers
Thank you for that, I needed a wholesome chuckle today.
NTripleOne··on Lyrebird – An API to copy the voice of anyone
Okay, so on an ever so slightly related note, I've always wondered this ever since I saw that movie as a kid.

...Is it normal to feel bad for the Johnnycab "driver" when Arnie destroys it?

NTripleOne··on Dear Startups: Fuck Your Nerf Battles
Dear Vice: Fuck your pointless necessity of bringing gender politics into something which is a non-gendered issue.
NTripleOne··on Fear of a White Lighter
Murder is a (mostly) provable thing though, you can't prove someone smokes weed because their lighter is a little charred.

I'm also pretty sure it's not even the act of smoking weed that's illegal, it's the possession (at least that's the case in the UK) - you can't nab someone for possession because they possessed at some point in the past, because that is - by definition - no longer possession.

NTripleOne··on Fear of a White Lighter
I don't get that, "You're under arrest for having smoked weed in the past even though you have nothing on you!"

Makes no sense.

NTripleOne··on OpenLara – Web-based classic Tomb Raider engine remake
They were great games hampered by some pretty abysmal controls, dual analogue wasn't exactly commonplace at the time (hell, the dual analogue controller was released the year after TR1 came out) so there was only so much you could do with just a d-pad. The controls got noticeably more tolerable as the series went on but even then it was the same tank controls full of animation lock-in (sidestepping being the main one).
NTripleOne··on Show HN: Klingar – Android music player for Plex
But does it cache?

The official plex app was a horrible experience for music (without paying for a subscription to download it to my device) as it didn't cache, if I changed track and then back again, it would download the whole track over again.

My experience may be somewhat outdated though as this was... well over a year ago at this point, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and have just been using google play music's free cloud music storage instead.

NTripleOne··on Ask HN: Do you still use browser bookmarks?
The side panel in Vivaldi has completely replaced any use I had for bookmarks.
NTripleOne··on Ask HN: Do you still use Antivirus in 2017?
Thank you for your consideration. Remember, non-windows users, just because you're not the target, doesn't mean you're not an attack vector.
