I'm a designer turned developer. One day I'll link to one of my sites, but for now I enjoy the anonymity.

NIL8··on Goblin.tools: simple, single-task tools to help neurodivergent people with tasks
Very well said.
NIL8··on Cataloguing the Cotton Charters
Fascinating! Thanks for posting
NIL8··on The whole of the Whole Earth Catalog is now online
Clever :)
NIL8··on Show HN: Simple Django starter template with a landing page, auth and dashboard
I had plans to do something similar and I'm happy you've saved me the time. Thanks for sharing!
NIL8··on YOLO ChatGPT prompt injection causes ChatGPT to dump source code
Fascinating. Now, I want to try it before the humans put a stop to it :)
NIL8··on Show HN: Visualising real-time Sydney bus congestion with Marey charts
Googled "Marey chart" and "Marey diagram" and your site showed up on the front page. That's impressive as it looks like you only published a day ago!
NIL8··on Scientists got lab-grown human brain cells to play 'Pong'
That's a very interesting line of thought!
NIL8··on AI-powered communication coach
Politicians and public figures could use something like this for interviews or taking questions on the podium to tweak their speeches in real-time to sound more legit.

An antidote for this would be an OSS alternative for the rest of us to identify dishonesty/inconsistencies and fact-check in real-time.

NIL8··on When the push button was new, people were freaked
I spotted this gem of a comment while scrolling and had to scroll back up to be sure I hadn't misread it. It's both hilarious and pertinent! Well said, "Big Toe."
NIL8··on Show HN: A Stable Diffusion desktop frontend with inpainting, img2img and more
Impressive! I appreciate not having to FFW to the useful info in the video. It's concise, to-the-point, and effectively shows what you made and how it works. Looking forward to trying it out.
NIL8··on Jupiter to Reach Opposition, Closest Approach to Earth in 59 Years
I'm interested in this info, too. In case nobody wants to share their advice, the article offers a simpler approach if needed:

“With good binoculars, the banding (at least the central band) and three or four of the Galilean satellites (moons) should be visible,” said Adam Kobelski, a research astrophysicist at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. “It’s important to remember that Galileo observed these moons with 17th century optics. One of the key needs will be a stable mount for whatever system you use.”

NIL8··on Ask HN: What jobs will be big in the future that don't exist yet?
This sounds like an interesting writing prompt. I'd love to see this turned into a short story!
NIL8··on Palette.fm: free AI colorizer tool
Nice job! Fast and easy to use. It took me more time to choose what photos to upload than it did to process them.

Edit: I should mention that the editing prompt is a nice add. Oh, and the About page ;)

Is there a way to download the final image?

NIL8··on Göbekli Tepe
That's disappointing. I would imagine that many of these sites will eventually be lost to natural and man-made events. At what point can we say it's time to excavate before it's too late?
NIL8··on The Follower: Using open cameras and AI to find how an Instagram photo is taken
This is a mixed bag of both good and bad. Imagine a domestic violence victim being tracked/stalked by their abusive partner. Conversely, allowing citizens to monitor these cameras could potentially help prevent/solve crimes. In the end, it's probably a Constitutional dilemma that will find it's way into the high courts someday soon.
NIL8··on Göbekli Tepe
Fascinating! The wiki says they've only uncovered 5%. I'm very curious to see what more they'll discover!
NIL8··on Plink: Create epic music together with friends and strangers
I was excited to try this, but the page is stuck on "loading."
NIL8··on DALL·E: Introducing Outpainting
I love this idea of extending the canvas to build out the scene. It makes me wonder if anyone's tried using Poe's stories for illustrating with AI? His descriptive writing style seems ideal.
NIL8··on Exploring 12M of the 2.3B images used to train Stable Diffusion
It feels like a tsunami is coming and we have no idea how big it will be.
NIL8··on Robert's Rules of Order (1876)
A documentary about this would be great. Especially, if it was a series that covered peaceful, disruptive protests over the years. It would be helpful for those wanting to do something similarly effective without the violence and chaos we've seen over the last few years.
NIL8··on Robert's Rules of Order (1876)
This reminds me of Flight of the Conchords where the manager, Murray, holds meetings in his office with the two band members. He even keeps the minutes himself. Hilarious!
NIL8··on Judge Rules Schools Can't Scan Your Bedroom with Creepy Proctoring Apps
This is great news! I tried to do something about this in Florida and Georgia. I couldn't believe that they insisted on using a company with international players to hijack student's computers and we were just expected to go along with it. These "proctors" have open access to student's computers, all of their personal information, and even worse, their cameras and microphones. Most students don't know to prepare their computer before downloading the app or to remove the app entirely after the exam. Without removing the app, the company's employees can still access student computers without the student's permission. There's no way to know exactly what the app is capable of and there's nobody to speak to about it. I ended up reaching out to the Deans at these universities, but they were dismissive and told me that students can opt out of the proctored exam if they had permission from their instructor. Well, the instructors were told to use the app exclusively, without exceptions so, no, students could NOT opt out. Since this was a brick wall, I spoke to the local news outlets to see if I could get help with shining a light on this mess, but nobody wanted to take it on. I had other pressing things going on in my life and at that point I finally gave up. It's nice to see it being taken seriously now.
NIL8··on Show HN: Open Source Canva Clone
I'm getting: 404: NOT_FOUND
NIL8··on Color has been disappearing from the world
Something I don't see mentioned is how over the last century manufacturers chose to use colors that would disguise the staining and discolouration caused by tobacco smoke. This is especially true of products designed for office use. The Commodore 64 is a good example.
NIL8··on Accounting for Developers, Part II
Could some of these issues you mentioned be helped by having the ability to make notes in each accounting stage of a particular customer's file?
NIL8··on An odd discovery on Spotify
There's a lot I like about Pandora and a lot I don't. The "stations" you mention can be pretty good. The problem I have is with the app itself. It's buggy and learning to use it well can be frustrating. A simple example would be when using the back arrow to return to where I was in the app. If I try to go back to a previous screen, it shrinks the app and when I resize it, Pandora restarts from scratch. This seems to take forever and it happens just about every time I use it. The only reason I haven't deleted it and switched to another app, is that I can't be bothered with all that while I'm working or driving (the only time I use it). Of course, there's other, more common issues like searching for a favourite song and only finding live sessions or worse, finding out they've stopped carrying a certain artist on my playlist.
NIL8··on Show HN: WebApp to Create 3D Plants
This is really impressive and not just the code. I like the UI, general site layout, and the fact that I don't have to weed through a lot fluff just to see what it is and how it works. Good work!
NIL8··on The effect of flossing on the oral microbiome, gum disease, and bad breath
Useful and to-the-point information. Thanks for sharing.
NIL8··on How the Great Pyramid at Giza Looked in 2560 BCE
I can't move on from this discussion without a nod to you for this comment. It provided an unexpected and much needed laugh.
NIL8··on Ask HN: How do you work with the fear of your own incompetence?
This is a good answer, but I feel like it will go over most people's heads. Knowing who to ignore and who to value in the workplace is a very valuable tool. Not sure if this type of insight comes from instinct or experience.
