Mrtierne··on YouTube Advertiser Meltdown: An Opportunity for Startups
It's more growing pains. Advertisers are starting to better understand the digital space so will hopefully concentrate their efforts and dollars on those creating premium video (like Kurzgesagt). Youtube could help the case by adjusting their recommendation algorithms ... watch one weird video and your recs are ruined.
Mrtierne··on How can an introvert Asian engineer like me make friends?
Get a side job that allows you to interact with customers and co-workers keeping in mind what types of people work at and patronize the place.

Work a few shifts/hours on the weekend/nights. Being social takes practice and time to learn how to interact with different types of people. The more you're exposed the better you'll do.

Avengers made money so piracy is OK in this case? Why don't you want to pay for the movie? Is the price too high? You don't like theaters? Piracy is not a good solution to this problem. Movies cost money to make and a lot of it, production through distribution. Yeah some make a lot money back but many don't make any. Working with movies I know that when you put little money into a project your chances of getting something good out of it are slim.

It's clear there is a problem with the business model and someone needs to start coming up with a better solution, other than piracy. The solution needs one goal ... to make money for those that create the movies.

Mrtierne··on Kepler space telescope finds 1,091 new exoplanet candidates
Licensing of any technologies developed for the projects or intellectual property created. I'm sure a smart company can figure out a way. If NASA/gov can't keep these projects alive someone with $ needs to step up.

Needs to be privatized and then we can keep Kepler up and get James Webb launched.
Mrtierne··on Ask HN: Anyone want to help improve my film news aggregator?
A Google News layout would be great and yes that would be more useful. It's just that the implementation is beyond my current skill level. - 1. Feeds under the site url. Agreed additional design is needed as well as more metadata displayed.

2. I do like grouping by categories and tags but only in addition to source. I like source because the sites do have very unique voices and posting agendas. For example, Deadline presents information they think people working in the entertainment industry would enjoy. On the other side Slashfilm caters more to casual movie fans.

3. All good ideas, thank you. Anyone want to help with design?

4. Yes, the "AddThis" widget hasn't helped much. A more robust social integration is something I'm currently planning out.

5. All great ideas, but again not sure how to technically implement. I'm aware how some of the better aggs do it with linking and human curation.

Thanks again all good stuff!

Thanks for the input and yes I agree that'd be great. I've attempted to implement but have been unsuccessful ... still learning :)

Nothing really to open source but it's built on: Universal Feed Parser, Django, MySQL. I do support open source so encourage the release of any components developed for the the site to be so.

Design help is very much needed as you can see from the layout. Happy to discuss any ideas, feel free to email me
