I think maybe they are not very good at running a bank.

MrMan··on SVB in talks to sell itself after attempts to raise capital fail
SVB is officially been closed and is in FDIC process. Real bank stocks are all up today, so that tells you all you need to know.
MrMan··on Sell-off in US bank stocks due to concerns over solvency of Silicon Valley Bank
what the hell are you even talking about? what is an "interesting" banking function. I have been a banking client as a regular person and with big banks and sell side brokerages and they were all focused on facilitating our business. if you want stability and not to have your shit taken by cartels when you get big enough to be noticed, you have to operate in a jurisdiction with law and order and rules. there are no "interesting" startups in places with no rules.
MrMan··on SVB in talks to sell itself after attempts to raise capital fail
it was a tiny deal in terms of the outlay, and I think it was positive to natural long term. not a very risky move for JPM
MrMan··on SVB in talks to sell itself after attempts to raise capital fail
these specialist banks are not worth much, there is no retail banking advantage to having tech companies as clients. the individual people who run the companies are most likely already wealth management clients of the same banks that might acquire SVB.

MrMan··on Dropping the SAT requirement is a luxury belief
this is chilling. thank you I guess for completely dropping any pretenses here. this system of well-roundedness was, as other people have alluded previously, invented to exclude high achieving ethnic groups ( as per the perception of the in-group ) from overrunning elite institutions of learning. this system is being employed to cap Asian admissions.
MrMan··on The Inverse Jim Cramer ETF
his fund did well, but he is in a different business now, he is a TV personality.

MrMan··on Generative AI could be an authoritarian breakthrough in brainwashing
smart people are just as susceptible
MrMan··on Generative AI could be an authoritarian breakthrough in brainwashing
at population level critical thinking is a dangerous hero myth. AI shows us clearly that our own faculties are very limited and there is no individual defense against propaganda and lies.

MrMan··on Half of Americans now believe that news organizations deliberately mislead them
the public interest is dead, look at the sentiment here on HN. everyone has taken red pills from either Peter Thiel, Joe Rogan, or some influencer at the listener's socio-economic level, who propagandizes them about the Individual and how you cant trust anyone but other bros who also dont trust anyone.

this is vile bullshit - we need to invest trillions to possibly arrest climate change, so yes there will be a lot of money in it for someone.
MrMan··on Canadian search teams hunt for wreckage amid UFO anxiety
I think the china balloon incident became political very quickly and then the political part of our government decided to ask the defense department to clean up things that we have previously been accepting as unexplained but acceptable becasue they were not attributable to state actors. a UAP that isnt owned by China or any other country that is just hanging out, I think we previously were letting them hang out.
