MrMan··on Twitter is planning to start charging $20 per month for verification
seems risky to do anything that decreases twitter's reach. it may seem counter intuitive but there is a reason the blue check mark was free of charge in the first place. I am not sure advertisers want a smaller twitter user base, since the one that exists is quite heterogeneous and geographically distributed.
MrMan··on Ask HN: How can responsible engineers shape the future of Twitter?
why care about twitter? go somewhere else or build something else. dont worry about twitter its not worth it

MrMan··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
another reason I think taking twitter private immediately was a wide choice
MrMan··on Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far
he bragged that he didn't care about making a profit in one of those public Q&A rountables this year. a lot of weird statements about a company that he seems to hate despite using it to pump his fortune
MrMan··on Tesla engineers takeover Twitter Codebase
not a good signal to send to all those lazy liberal programmers at twitter, but why would you worry about brain drain or morale at the company you just bought, but also seem to actively hate and have tried all summer to smear and denigrate. 4-d chess, I am sure
MrMan··on “Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with diverse viewpoints”

MrMan··on It's time to admit self-driving cars aren't going to happen

MrMan··on It's time to admit self-driving cars aren't going to happen
why is it time to admit that? it may not make anyone as rich as they hoped but I cant imagine we won't solve the problem
MrMan··on Zuckerberg’s empire collapses
the future is outsmarting states like China and Russia and avoiding, not profiting from, social collapse. I think he is just choosing something easy enough to accomplish but which might have a reasonably large addressable market.

really hard problems requiring actual innovation? so-called tech guys can only sell ads and personal data, sorry.

MrMan··on Zuckerberg’s empire collapses
I agree that FB could capture a fitness market a small fraction of Peloton's for this use. No one ever got fired for mimicking Peloton's business model.
MrMan··on Zuckerberg’s empire collapses
complete nonsense. tech may bounce back but "covering losses" is not why tech is down
MrMan··on Ask HN: What's Going on with the HN Algorithm?
the initial announcement of Musks twitter offer and attendant gloating / revulsion got many thousands of comments and it is actually quite interesting that the terminal side of this giant event has come through HN like a whisper.

And HN, like CNBC, exists mainly as part of a giant financial hype machine which is interesting in the same way that gravity or death is interesting. The whole tech world revolves around the price of things - your attention, clicks, term sheets, RSUs, etc. Cramer is not below HN, you are not above Cramer just because you don't perform on camera. We are all part of this machine.

MrMan··on Meta's value has plunged by $700B. Wall Street calls it a “train wreck.”
I have had arguments with a lot of buy side and MBA types who try to convince me that buybacks are good for the country and patriotic but I would prefer a dividend by god. buybacks to me are un-American especially those funded by debt.
