If you don't understand my distaste for colleges money sinks read this : alot of these are suicidal kids with degrees who did everything "right" by the authority figures they trusted.

Money, degrees, and productivity are not metrics of a live well lived. There are metrics such as self-reported happiness, marriage and divorce rates, birth rates, and other things that paint a much fuller picture. You need to figure out what is good for you.

Some advice to other women developers. Take the money from silicon valley, then run to a cheaper place to live. Invest it well, and relax.

ex. Buy a duplex, and rent one part of it out to pay your bills.

The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.

MollyR··on No evidence to support link between violent video games and behaviour
I think skyward sword was the only one that implied a romantic relationship.
MollyR··on Why Hasn’t the World Been Destroyed in a Nuclear War Yet?
One of my big concerns about the future is nuclear war being triggered by a new plague.

My concern is that an huge population allow for "parallel processing" for pathogenic evolution to find weak vectors in humans, and this will be mistaken as a nation-state attack leading to a nuclear war.

That first recommendation is pure genius!
MollyR··on Stanford CS9: Problem-Solving for the CS Technical Interview
A whole class for technical interviews seems like overkill. It also gives me an uneasy feeling of being in a tech bubble.

"Information is power. But like all power, there are those who want to keep it for themselves. The world’s entire scientific and cultural heritage, published over centuries in books and journals, is increasingly being digitized and locked up by a handful of private corporations." - Aaron

I think about his quote quite a bit lately. I wonder what he would have thought about modern facebook, google, and the extreme consolidation of american corporations.

MollyR··on Alert About Missile Bound for Hawaii Was Sent in Error, Officials Say
So a test drill went wrong.

It makes sense to have drills right now, India (tests with war against China and Pakistan), China (Telling their soldiers to be prepared to die for China), Russia(tests against Nato), and North Korea (getting ready for war with the US) are all having military tests for basically what will quickly become another world war.

We are really at a big crossroads as a large amount of people are rejecting globalization in many different countries. And with such major powers willing to fight hard for resources like Ukraine, South China Sea, Oil Eu pipelines, and not even mentioning the increasing gulf between various countries on core ideologies and creeds.

We really are at a new and dangerous crossroads.

MollyR··on Half of the US government's financial assets are student loans
I can't tell if you are joking, so I'm taking it seriously.

Uber's human resources and or lawyers should have caught many of its missteps. Common undergrad degrees for HR being in management, business administration, and related business degrees. Lawyers are well lawyers.

Gender Studies doesn't prepare you for business as well as an actual business related degree, it prepares you for a mostly academic career which has limited spots.

That being said, even STEM and business degrees are worth less and less as competition increases. You now need a degree and often years of experience for jobs.

The only thing that really angers me is charging 60,000 dollars for a gender studies degree, and having a student take loans for it. 1/100 might get lucky and work at a big tech company as a tech evangelist, but it's not sustainable.

We need universities to be far more accountable about what degrees actually lead to jobs.

MollyR··on Firefox bullshit removal
Interesting. Though at that point why wouldn't you just use Brave ?
MollyR··on Half of the US government's financial assets are student loans
US government backed student loans were a huge mistake.

We needed something like rent control enforced on public universities, for government backed loans. But we didn't.

So it created a situation that caused an enormous amount of millennials to be taken advantage of by universities and colleges. Those universities and colleges pumped full of government loan cash became increasingly predatory. They increased their administrative costs, they increased their tuition costs, and they lured unsuspecting teenagers into taking enormous debt for worthless degrees like gender studies over engineering.

This has been a catastrophe, that will be used as a case study of unintended consequences.

The extreme amount of student loans has lead to extreme unrest, unless action is taken quickly it will only get worse. We see it in the rise of the alt-left and alt-right fueled by extreme fanatics in desperate and angry situations.

MollyR··on Amazon Is Thriving Thanks to Taxpayer Dollars
I hate the fact that's probably exactly what will happen. We need better ways from keeping corporations from taking advantage of the tax payer unfairly.
MollyR··on Why Do Women Bully Each Other at Work? (2017)
It's about power, control, fear, and envy. I doubt bullying is totally a gender specific thing in the workplace.

My worst ever bullying experience was from a tech illiterate woman CTO. She treated most of the tech team like utter crap. I think because I was a woman she saw me as an intruder on her turf, and got it worse than the others.

I quit as fast and soon,as I had another job lined up.

MollyR··on Apple: Chinese firm to operate China iCloud accounts
Wow,I didn't think of that example. It's a pretty huge hypocrisy.
MollyR··on A Gym Chain Is Banning Cable News
I like that idea.

Honestly I see so many ipads or tablets on the cardio equipment anyways, I never saw the point of having news at the gym.

MollyR··on Apple: Chinese firm to operate China iCloud accounts
This is probably the way it should be. Multinational corporation have subdivisions that handle local laws and customs.

ex. Facebook Germany should handle all its specific speech laws rather than trying blanket global speech to Germany or EU specific laws.

Though at that point you start losing advantages at scaling depending on implementation.

MollyR··on Japan is embracing nursing-care robots
So they are already starting to use automation to address the labor shortage from a decreasing population.

This should be the way forward rather than importing foreign populations, because a gradual decrease of human populations is necessary for preserving more our natural resources.

MollyR··on World without antibiotics
A world without antibiotics is also a world with very limited surgeries.
MollyR··on Buffett Says Stock Ownership Became More Attractive With Tax Cut
That will only happen if fiat doesn't fail first, and its not looking good for fiat due to inflation and negative interest rates right now.
MollyR··on The day I accidentally killed a little boy
Sure people who aren't pregnant can never understand what it's like to carry their child inside them for 9 months.

You feel their movements inside you. You just know when they aren't feeling well. They respond differently when you eat certain foods. It's an almost spiritual connection.

Then to finally meet them after 9 months, I just can't describe it.

MollyR··on Study suggests sugar alternative contributing to C. diff epidemic
I wonder if people's weird reactions of sugar is really due to these sugar alternatives being in everything.

We really need more research of the microbiome.

MollyR··on The day I accidentally killed a little boy
I'm a mother with a young child. I don't think the childless and males can ever really understand the process of being pregnant for 9 months and then giving birth.

I empathize with her, but if she killed my child. I could never forgive her.

MollyR··on Ibuprofen alters human testicular physiology
It would be mind boggling if pain killers were connected to dropping male fertility.

It might even explain why so many cultures had rites to male adulthood involving extreme pain.

MollyR··on Far Right Activist Charles Johnson Has Sued Twitter Over His Suspension
It's starting to look like its the year silicon valley gets sued.
MollyR··on James Damore has filed a class action lawsuit against Google
That and also There was also google managers talking about having personal blacklists on twitter.

It's why I think this google will settle with Damore for a very high amount, because discovery will not be good for them.

MollyR··on James Damore has filed a class action lawsuit against Google
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a fast 7 figure settlement. Conservatives/Populists groups are literally salivating for discovery to nail google on other things.

EDIT: Also reminder some googlers kept politically motivated blacklists, if those blacklists were on company computers, Google will be hammered for it. Discovery could go wrong for Google in a million ways.
