Gen AI is for losers. You did not write or "vibe code", you purchased code from an AI vendor. They fooled you into paying them to turn your brain off. You're not being paid more to produce more. Don't be bullied into using it - so what if you are "left behind." That sounds nice actually.

Supermicro and pretty sure Tyan offered Itanium motherboards.
From what I remember the Itanium was always harped on as too complex and too power hungry for mainstream while offering abysmal x86 emulation which soured its adoption. It had a niche in certain industries like HPC and high reliability. AMD's x64 architecture launched only 2 years after Itanium launched and pretty much destroyed any future for Itanium.
Plan 9 C is wonderful to work in. I really enjoy its simplicity and how the system design has trimmed away a lot of the ugly API's (select and poll, thank god they're gone...) and replaced them by modern multi-process solutions like thread(2) and ioproc(2). Plan 9 was designed ground up for multi-processor machines and it's all channels (if Go were an OS...)

Rebuild all of 9front user space from source: 'cd /sys/src; mk clean; time mk install' - 51.48u 36.14s 51.23r mk install. almost 51.5 seconds, under a minute on a measly quad core i5-6500T CPU @ 2.50GHz - a Dell micro desktop with a SATA SSD.
9front amd64 PC kernel build: 'cd /sys/src/9/pc64; mk clean; time mk' - 5.38u 1.16s 4.19r mk. FIVE FUCKING SECONDS. Same machine as above. Time to build the Arm64 Pi kernel: 4.66u 0.83s 3.99r mk. About one second faster. Edit, I should add the kernel sizes: 9pc64 - 5,412,046 bytes, 9pi3 - 4,443,400 bytes. About a second per megabyte of executable machine code generated.
Almost correct. There are also shared memory segments via segment(3). You segattach(2) to a segment from a user space process then read/write that memory as a file from a user space process [1]. Drivers can expose memory mapped IO (e.g. PCI cards) using a physical segment and segattach to that from a user space process. The vga(8) program does this to do low level register tweaking. Sometimes, a file server is either too tedious, or not the right abstraction. It also enables memory sharing between processes and user space programs. You can share it over the network with rexport(1) but it gets weird (networked PCI/RAM out of the box...)
> So owning a mouse would mean reading from /path/to/mouse. But what I've also read is that every process can do so believing they own it - it's theirs exclusively?
Rio and other window managers like Lola, multiplex it [2]. This is how each window only sees the mouse when the cursor is within its border window. If I open two windows and run 'cat /dev/mouse' in each window then move the mouse around, cat only outputs data when the mouse is over the window it's running in.

Recently, Pike commented that he designed Plan 9 so he could build the windowing system he wanted. (edit: oops, link) https://9fans.topicbox.com/groups/9fans/T4fec171fec7e3845-M2...
What people need to do is plan out their time usage better, especially neurodivergent people who fall into these traps much easier (Hi.) I used to wake up on weekends, sit at my computer and burn down my morning and afternoon on it. I would regret it at times so I changed the habit: no computer in the morning. Make my bed. Put on coffee. Feed the cat. Eat something. Shower and groom. Get dressed and maybe go for a walk around the block. At that point I have little desire to burn a day looking at a screen.
Make a new morning routine. Start by making your bed (it's a building block, wax on/wax off.) If I want to use the computer I make a time slot and set a timer so I don't get lost. I then set other goals including going for walks, do some shopping. Exercise is another step, just basic stuff you can do at home in addition to walking like push-ups, sit-ups and so on. You can even buy a set of dumbbells/kettle-bells and make a little workout routine. Not to get swole but fit and energetic. That helps a lot as being sedentary leaves you with little energy and isn't good for your mental health either.
We cant avoid all the capitalistic push but we can avoid it as much as possible. Build new habits. Make new plans. Set new goals to curb screen time. It's easier than you think as you don't need to do everything at once, maybe just start making your bed and set an internet timer. Go for a short walk around the block or whatever. If you fail to do your new routine, relax, just try again tomorrow. Baby steps. Rome wasn't built in a day.
If AI were marketed like this it would not be appealing to employers. So of course AI marketing is wrapped in hustle culture. Gotta keep the worker bees busy.
I just helped setup a new O365 account and joined Win 11 machines to Entra (Cloud Active directory) for a company.
Total mess. The cloud services each had partial outages where I was met with "Data not available at this time" or various errors. At first I thought I was holding it wrong, but no, hours or even a day later things that didn't work suddenly worked. Going forward if I hit a wall I take a break, try again later and it works.
I am no MS fan but the integration of Win11 and O365/Azure seems to be headed in the right direction but the execution is a total mess. One beef is OneDrive integration is an idiotic duality as its not a "drive" and given special treatment by office apps such as only allowing auto save when saving to Onedrive.
MS, get your shit together.

edit: I once said this phrase at a work meeting and someone objected to my use of a crude term which I then explained much to everyone's surprise. They thought it had something to do with testicles.
Since AI I have noticed a lot of sudden bulleted lists appearing in pretty benign forum posts. That along with "You are right" "You are correct" "you're right" as the response.
What did the LLM's speed up that was taking that time away from you?
Likely because most of the pirated content is western and therefor both inconsequential and a way to thumb their noses at the "west."
