MenaMena123··on Scribd is another Loopt
Yes heroku did a great job, but what about the rest, they may just end up like Loopt, it was hyped and came down to alot of money raised and sold for nothing. And trust me YC isnt in this for the baby buyouts, its looking for that facebook.

Scribd is next, alot of hype and money, but just sucks.

MenaMena123··on Scribd is another Loopt
The buyout prices you described are baby buys, those happen everyday, trust me investors arent thr those low ball buys. Yes people make money, but its not one for the history books, if success is maki million, then I guess thats your success.
MenaMena123··on Scribd is another Loopt
Buddy, you just described all these companies that were aquired, many are hyped and dont last sometimes thats the only option or move forward. Loopt was aquired doesnt mean it was a success. Look at the details, if a company gets aquired for 20 mil, but needs to pay the vcs and staff and themselves alot of times its a loss, not in every case. But yc hasnt had any facebooks or googles, maybe later but I dont see it yet. And I never said they wouldnt have success, many will, but I dont care if they get people from each continent, they can still be the same style and type from what I see.
MenaMena123··on Save some money on those long night outs with this app, would love feedback
Do you go out and drink much? Seems nice but in the night life the last thing people are going to be doing is using an app to find out the cost of the drinks, then adding them in. Understand its hard enough to get a drink in crowded bars, it may help with costs, but that person may look like a cheapass with his little app. _Hey everyone my app says I didnt drink those beers and its off 50 cents, can I have the costs again to every drink i bought to I can add them into my app..... If I didnt buy a certain drink I just tell the waiter, I didnt drink that and they take it off.
MenaMena123··on Techstars or a Harvard MBA?
I would think Harvard has more value than TechStars. Now if you said YC vs Havard, then its a big difference.
MenaMena123··on Why don't rich people do more awesome things?
This may not apply to PG or alot of others, but you would be surprised how much money people don't really have. I knew someone that I thought had cash. In reality he was broke and had all his money tied up in deals or stocks etc.

At the end of the day he lost it all and had no money. Even when you have a percent of something, doesn't mean you have money to spend, if the cash is not in your bank account you can't buy.

MenaMena123··on Does design really matter for startups?
Design is more than a nice little picture, you can just have text on a page and you still design. Many people that don't know about design think its about images, it's usability, it's brand, it's feel, it's your damn company!! :)
MenaMena123··on How do early stage startups recruit hackers?
Early stage things only go off of friends or people they know or met already. So forget about those services the founders already know what they want at that early stage. Maybe it would work for large established companies only.
MenaMena123··on Ask HN: Which start-ups are in the 'billion dollar club'?
I dont know, but I dont like the idea of things jumping up that fast and I am sure we will see more soon. Not good.
MenaMena123··on Why haven't more successful tech startups emerged from Los Angeles?
It like asking - why haven't more successful movie production emerged from San Francisco?

It's just not the place for it.

MenaMena123··on GMail is not a business tool. Period.
"The problem is, GMail is absolutely unacceptable for business usage, but the folks who use it don’t see it that way."

Its odd you say that above. The people who use it are the ones that matter.? If its used for it, well its works for them for business. End of Story.

MenaMena123··on Ask HN: Did my poor choice in higher education hurt my career permanently?
You seem a bit like myself, a few years back. You are worried about "School Names" or how it looks to others.

Don't even worry about what school you attended, worry about the things you know. Did you learn anything?

Worry about what your skills are, good companies could careless if you went to no school and know the skills instead.

Worry about what projects you have done and what you learned from each one, even if the project was by yourself.

My point is people are so hung up on schools and degrees, they forget the skills and experience out-way any degree.

So worry about skills and experience even if its on your own experiments. The passed is the passed, hopefully you learned something at the school at the least.

You just don't learn in schools.

MenaMena123··on It’s OK to make an extra $2k per month if you’re a programmer. Here’s how.
You make it sound so easy, I know it is not and I can do all that you have stated, but that will take sometime. If it was that easy you can keep that process going and make alot.

I know a site that has a good amount of traffic and makes nothing from Google Ads. Not saying its not all possible, but just not as easy as you stated and somethings you left out on doing it all correctly.

MenaMena123··on Show HN: I Made this Y Combinator T-Shirt (Words from PG's Essays)
I think its a great option if the company approves of it.
MenaMena123··on Show HN: I Made this Y Combinator T-Shirt (Words from PG's Essays)
Yea I understand where your coming from with the Tagxedo (which is really cool, minus the copyright issues that could arise), but putting it on Zazzle would be debatable. Not my debate.

Regardless, if its not made for profit, after one sale its profit. I mean its really cool and I'm not one to care about all the legal crap, but someone does at times.

As far as your break even it doesn't matter if its not your brand your working on. I can spend months designing something a court wont care if its not mine in the first place.

I wouldn't really worry about it.

I really think its cool, but I was just stating some matters.

MenaMena123··on Show HN: I Made this Y Combinator T-Shirt (Words from PG's Essays)
I think its a great design coming from a designer myself, but I'm no lawyer and I don't think you can be making money off someones logo or brand. I dont think you need to be a lawyer to know that either.

Plain and simple, would you want to create a startup and someone make tshirts and make money off your brand or logo?

MenaMena123··on Y Combinator’s Paul Graham: We’re Looking For People Like Us
I like the video every time Paul Graham says "I dont know" "I dont know". Seems like a good guy. He's a kid himself, I like it.
MenaMena123··on All accelerator programs are not the same
The success of the startups speak for themselves. I am not sure whats the records are, but the article talks about Techstars being in a variety of cities and meeting alot of friends and having a huge Demo day.

In all honesty I feel like YC is just straight up and too the point. They don't need to work in an office, if you like a startup you'll go hangout together. They don't need to hype the Demo day, they just need the right few people in the room.

Techstars seems to have people from all over the place, which I prefer not to have. If I want to meet people I want to talk the the ones in the valley, because they understand.

I haven't been in either program, but follow both and YC just seems to wipe out the unnecessary old school corporate things. TechStars seems like you better be a social butterfly and talk with everyone even the ones that don't know anything about.

More mentors does not mean better. I would take 2 really good mentors over a 1000.

MenaMena123··on Startup or Big Company after graduating?
Plain and simple... you can always get a normal job at any time or age, they will be around for awhile. A startup gets harder to do as you get older and family or bills come into play.

Start with the startup, no question about it.

MenaMena123··on Ask HN: Thinking about relocating, suggestions?
My point being the bay area is great to live regardless and you talk about your business doing great, you should be in silicon valley. (2 birds one stone.)

I know your just looking for locations, but your life is apart of business and your location is key. Why not improve both at the same time. :)

MenaMena123··on Ask HN: Where do you expect Facebook to be in 5 years?
Like anything it has its high time and people just get tired of things and move to the next best thing.
MenaMena123··on Ask HN: Thinking about relocating, suggestions?
Well the best area is the heart of it all - Silicon Valley - USA - Mountain View or Palo Alto or San Francisco. Depending if you are trying to grow your business.
MenaMena123··on Paul Graham To Hold Y Combinator “Office Hours” At TechCrunch Disrupt
It really would be nice to have open office hours where any team can come into chat in private. When I move down to the valley I would like to chat with people I think would be interested and not have to chase people around or feel they are too busy. As an entrepreneur I think we should be able to score a meeting with anyone, too bad its not the way it goes. In reality some of us sacrifice so much and for a meeting to never be setup at times is such a waste for entrepreneurs and then again I understand not everyone would fit the "YC" type. I do love YC and many others, but its time for the entrepreneur to be on stage interviewing the Angels and VCs. Without us they aren't much :)

I guess if were that good they will find us or at least hear about us later.

MenaMena123··on Will Kleiner-Perkins or Sequioa Capital ever come to North Carolina?
Why would they go? With those names you go to them. Fly down and setup a meeting do whatever you have to do. Don't wait for them they are fine where they are. :)
MenaMena123··on Y Combinator Accepts Record 60+ New Startups For Summer 2011
At the end of the decision making, do you feel many other great startups are being left out, due to the amount of startups you can only choose? Or you feel the others just don't have something going on.
MenaMena123··on Y Combinator Accepts Record 60+ New Startups For Summer 2011
Why would they even consider it? When you have many already willing founders to move down and give 110 percent. Also, face to face contact is a bonus especially at the start.
MenaMena123··on Ask HN: How to cancel a job offer finding another offer
Nobody disrespected anyone, that's just business sometimes you lose, sometimes you win, which ever side your on you just keep going. No right or wrong here, if it was that case always do the right thing, in this case the other business just lost talent, they wanna compete they can by offering or matching it.

Just business.

MenaMena123··on Ask HN: How to cancel a job offer finding another offer
Like I said below only in a perfect world, it happens all the time. Its nothing new and just business. No hard feelings on any side, the employee and companies know all this and don't see it as anything bad or good, just the way the market is. When your in demand - your in demand. :)
MenaMena123··on Ask HN: How to cancel a job offer finding another offer
Regardless when you get an offer, you go for the best one. Even if its your first day and you get a call from say Facebook and they want you, you gonna say no thank you, I rather stay here with less pay or name value. I don't think so. It would be nice in a perfect world. :)
MenaMena123··on Ask HN: How to cancel a job offer finding another offer
First off you did nothing wrong at all! Its a good thing people are after you, it happens and companies know what happens and knows the best offer wins. Nothing new here. Always pursue the best offers around, its a game these companies play, Google vs. Facebook for example.

The hiring game as nothing to do with you, its a game played between companies. Just be sure to call the person tomorrow and tell them you have a better offer. No need to feel bad, feel good people are after you. Its not the first time this happens. If they really want you they may match your other offer. Good Luck and feel good.
