Mauricebranagh··on Companies excluding Coloradans from remote jobs to avoid sharing salary ranges
All over the world, this was in Kuala Lumpur I did some rereading up on the country and decided to pass, I would have had to cut my hair short for one.

One of my co-workers did this but his asthma could not stand the humidity and he had to come back.

Mauricebranagh··on Teardown of a PC Power Supply
Mr Carlson covers this in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyKHVl3xF70

Personally I would probably not want to mess around inside a AXT supply.

You can once you leave - just don't take the piss like the self driving car idiot did.
Mauricebranagh··on Companies excluding Coloradans from remote jobs to avoid sharing salary ranges
Cartels are illegal ask the companies in SV that got caught.
Mauricebranagh··on Companies excluding Coloradans from remote jobs to avoid sharing salary ranges
Why not? When I worked at BT they did - a nice one or two year posting abroad on full ride expat status looks good on the CV.
Mauricebranagh··on Companies excluding Coloradans from remote jobs to avoid sharing salary ranges
Ah the CEO's golfing buddy's son or daughter.

Don't try this in Northern Ireland btw. I know of US mangers getting into some serious hot water over not advertising the job in Catholic and Protestant publications.

Is this a managerial / professional union?

Those normally negotiate the banding and the COL increases and also know what the rates are.

Unions in the entertainment industries do :-) underpay or stiff workers and you get put on the "call first list" this is the PC name for another type of list.

Larger cars = safer for the driver and occupants. Look at an original mini. vs the new ones.
Mauricebranagh··on MUM: A new AI milestone for understanding information
And how else would a search engine work ? I am not Shure what your proposed solution would look like.
Mauricebranagh··on The End of Retirement (2014)
And in some instances US SS is more generous than the "socialistic" UK.

Single persons unemployment benefit

Mauricebranagh··on The End of Retirement (2014)
A sate pension that pays 50% lol that's a big ask. I assume you have your employers pensions as well.
Mauricebranagh··on Poor in Tech
I find that hard to believe unless your country has a very stratified higher education system - which is a bad thing.
Mauricebranagh··on Poor in Tech
Middle class kids might, not upper class wealthy ones not so much.
Mauricebranagh··on Poor in Tech
And you know Association football (soccer) is lower class in the UK.
Mauricebranagh··on Poor in Tech
And also surprising the author did not experience it at Uni where even well off middle class people, suddenly are mixing with much wealthier people.

I remeber my cousin who went to UMIST saying this and that side of the family was well off.

Its even more noticeable if you went to oxbridge and bumped into some one like Borris Johnson and his Bullingdon mates.

Mauricebranagh··on How necessary are the programming fundamentals?
Just thought with the analogy with music is there a market for Fake/Real Books for developers.
Mauricebranagh··on How necessary are the programming fundamentals?
Surly the fundamentals of programming are converting between binary, octal hex by hand basic set theory, the standard control structures etc.

Bad analogy with music theory though at the super high end it gets more about the theory than the actual music.

Most musicians are not going to be using exotica like Xenharmony

Mauricebranagh··on Last year, more people in San Francisco died of overdoses than of Covid-19
Even last year if I was out in the open air I didn't wear a mask only when say queuing for public transport.

And I am an immunosuppressed solid organ transplant patient.

Mauricebranagh··on Ads are impersonating government websites in Google results, despite ban
Probably not going to work for 25 year old junior developers at the more senior levels you need to be aware of the political side.

But its is a problem your not going to attract many B+ candidates if your so far behind industry.

About 3 years ago one uk org (I wont say which one) tried pitching people on linked in I got the pitch and so did a mate who's ex military he laughed and said "not on those poverty wages"

Mauricebranagh··on Ads are impersonating government websites in Google results, despite ban
Its harder than it looks to solve this problem.

And its also not that simple to weed out bad actors when normally the government sites that should rank are probably hopeless and the senior civil servants in charge knowledge of the web is “in need of some improvement”

Google and Bing could turn up the YMYL (“your money or your life” ) knob but they would also need to employ higher paid local people to vet these sorts of ads.

Stricter KYC (Know Your Customer) could be required to run online adverts is another solution.

Pre covid I got pitched a grade 7/6 (v senior O-6 /GS15 ) job for the DWP to sort out the technical seo side. Looking at these scam sites in search would have been a priority had that gone anywhere – maybe set up some meetings with Matt Cutts and discuss a joint us / uk approach.

Maybe I should follow that job up.

Mauricebranagh··on Colonial Pipeline Paid Hackers Nearly $5M in Ransom
I am not a Natsec expert - and where does "employees or contractors. " come into this?

I was suggesting that certain industries would have to be stricter in future in who they hire for sensitive roles.

Mauricebranagh··on Uber used 50 Dutch shell companies to dodge taxes on $6B in revenue
Not sure what your point is those with more gains pay more here - is residential property included in this?

Taxing cgt as income has some negative aspects.

And almost 1/2 mill a year income is not what id call "middle class"

Mauricebranagh··on Colonial Pipeline Paid Hackers Nearly $5M in Ransom
That has nothing to do with this the FBI presumably cannot enforce security on a company.

Maybe for some industries they need to start mandating Security Clearances and background checks and no outsourcing of certain critical systems work.

Mauricebranagh··on Uber used 50 Dutch shell companies to dodge taxes on $6B in revenue
Which special treatment is this ?

Might be more sensible to give smallish tax breaks for CGT to ordinary workers and reform the taxation of worker share options no more crippling tax bills for worthless options.

Id also encourage listed companies to offer UK style share saves to all workers to allow those lower down the food chain to actually get some equity.

Mauricebranagh··on What I learnt roasting 200 landing pages
Its actually interesting (bit on the spammy side) a lot of sites get built by a developer who doesn't relay pay any attention on to its intended function.

And designing the right architecture for example do not stuff all your sku's / PDP on one single page with just images, no text and a page title of "Products"

And a lot of businesses a page will have to serve multiple requirements: a laser focused ppc landing page targeting one term well that's a lot easier.

Mauricebranagh··on Updated Concept of “The Surgical Team”

Well it was the inspiration I believe it was IBM - I will have to check my copy of Mc Connell Rapid Software Development
Mauricebranagh··on Game developers sharing their salaries on Twitter
You know I meant the HMRC match and the tax treatment - not the statutory employer one.

You get tax relief at your rate of income tax, which is much better for higher rate tax payers

Mauricebranagh··on Updated Concept of “The Surgical Team”
Having done this it does work well - a lot better that the botched Agile/Scrum solutions that many struggle with.
Mauricebranagh··on Updated Concept of “The Surgical Team”
That is not how CPT / Surgical teams work
