Mankhool··on BMO only uses the first six characters of your password for online banking.
I thought that the limit WAS 6 characters from telephone banking days prior to online banking and mobile banking - a holdover. So when I set up online banking eons ago I used the same PW and was setup instantly. I take it new account setups are asking for a longer and more secure PW?
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What are your hobbies?
I third this. Also teaches the benefits of persistence and dedication.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Best registrar/TLD beyond US control
http://www.infomaniak.com/?language=english unknown about the vanilla cards
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What online services do you use to calculate and file sales tax?
I might be an old fashioned Canadian, but I refuse to use online services for my taxes because I don't know where, or with whom that information is being hosted. So I buy a disc or download the software every year to do the taxes and I file them by sending them over the net to the CRA.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What cool domain names do you have for sale?
mankhool.com
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What cool domain names do you have for sale?
geosear.ch
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What problems need to be solved for mobile?
I second this and want to expand upon the issue of "privacy" to include the ability to send and receive payments with complete anonymity.
Mankhool··on Ask HN:What valuable company is no one building?
Location based tasking for professional journalists (word, photo, video, radio) that is 100% anonymous (including payment). Disrupt the need for every news gathering organization on earth to maintain ANY foreign bureaus. Users of this app ARE the bureau.
Mankhool··on What is good customer service?
According to Restoration Hardware, "CARING is the ultimate competitive advantage". They're just figuring that out now.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Would it be OK to name an app that's similar to anothers?
Why not choose a name that is not necessarily specific to your idea? Pick anything. I used to own mankhool.com and mankool.com (just because I thought it was a cool name - it's a road in Dubai).
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Countries with sane governments that won't mess with my Internet use?
Upvoted. I recently purchased my domain and hosting from infomaniak. Great service.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Rejected from YC? Who are you?
Rejected 2 years ago for what some other guys in Cali launched as Gigwalk last May. I had a PhD and a CS guy on my team (albeit none of us were in the same city). I'm an information professional with a background in media production and ed tech. So since GW launched I've been watching closely and thinking about pivoting only slightly to something aimed at professional journalists, photographers and videographers, worldwide, who want to be able to charge their regular rates and have the option of being completely anonymous.

Hey guys have you considered applying to the Knight News Challenge? http://newschallenge.tumblr.com/
Mankhool··on Getting around the London 2012 branding police
As a Canadian, living in Canada, a country with NO "fair use" provisions because our laws are derived from those of the United Kingdom, I am well aware of how copyright and trademarks work. The Olympics are a rarefied, global, multinational corporation that demand governments bend to their will with respect to their trademarks if they want the games. Governments do so because it brings in revenue and also allows them to undertake mega projects that would otherwise never see the light of day.
Mankhool··on Getting around the London 2012 branding police
Based on my experience with VANOC well in advance of the Winter Olympics here in Vancouver - NO. I was in the process of making Olympic Anagram T-shirts (Olympian = Palimony) etc. and they threatened to destroy my life if any of my ART was found being sold online, on the street or on Mars. True.

Also, given that the Olympics have become a political battering ram to push through, at all levels of government, any project at any cost at any consequence in the future, the answer is still - NO.

Mankhool··on Ask HN: $640 Million... why do so many people insist on buying lottery tickets?
As an outsider (a Canadian) I thought the most compelling thing about this jackpot (MegaMillions $656 Million) was that it escalated from the announced $540 Million BETWEEN draws. Surely there is not a better indicator the of state of the American economy than this.
Mankhool··on StartupPlays - Cutting Edge Strategic Plans for Startups
They lost me at, "Finding and Hiring Startup 'Rockstars'".
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Do you live w/o a car (outside the US)?
I haven't owned a car for 29 years and have lived in Vancouver off and on for 24 of those. Having said that - our transit system is really quite disgusting and I am seriously thinking that 2012 will be the year of the car for me.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Salary for IT Infrastructure Manager?
Pay in Canada at a $20 Billion global communications company starts at $85K.
Mankhool··on New: Apply to Y Combinator without an Idea
I agree. In Vancouver (slob city) people for the most part don't even dress up to go out. They ask why should I? Here is an answer: Dressing down, ubiquitously known as "being comfortable", says that you don’t care about how you look, as if your appearance were an entirely private matter that has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s the exact opposite: what you wear is part of the visible environment, as relevant as the architecture, the decor, the food on the table, the scents in the air. http://betweenmypeers.com/2007/09/20/why-dress-up-for-social...
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What do you do when someone else executes your idea?
I spent almost 2 years trying to find investors for what some others guys in Cali launched as Gigwalk last May. Major bummer. But nobody executes "your idea" EXACTLY as you envision it so do it anyway. I have had the luxury of watching Gigwalk for almost a year - and it is a lot easier to describe what I'm doing now that I can point to another app and say, "like this, only with features x, y and z that it doesn't have". Also it's a lot easier to know how much capital you might need based on what a competitor has raised. Good Luck!
Mankhool··on Ask HN:Do my company own IP when I work on my personal app in freetime?
Absolutely agree. I used to work in Vegas. An engineer colleague of mine specifically took a job there because (at that time?) Nevada was the only state, or one of very few, where an employer could not lay claim to his side projects - and he had at least one patent that I know of.
Mankhool··on Hey, Apple Here's why I am not buying more iPads
I agree. I wonder what kind of telecom market entrance Apple could make with $100 Billion?
Mankhool··on Show HN: GeoStripper for Android - remove GPS EXIF data from your shared photos
Very interesting. Can you build an app (Android or other) that will read RFID data from a chip in a name tag and dump that data into the an IPTC field?
Mankhool··on Ask HN: What movies do you recommend for Christmas?
Alstair Sim as Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol" (1951) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044008/
Mankhool··on Thanks HN: we just launched the One-Time Secret beta based on your feedback
Didn't Peter F Hamilton write about a future with "one time email addresses"? I like the idea of this, but I want to see it able to handle photos, video, and audio.
Mankhool··on Ask: What goal are your working towards?
http://aboardtheworld.com/contact more on Google images if you search The World of Residensea
Mankhool··on Ask: What goal are your working towards?
A residence on The World. I toured it when it stopped in Vancouver last year. http://aboardtheworld.com/
Mankhool··on Ask HN: My startup just received seed funding, tips on building out tech team?
I would love it if you guys would at some point elucidate about how 2 non "tech" people a) found some techies to help you with your project and b) got seed funding. Both of these seem to fly in the face of established start up culture.
Mankhool··on Ask HN: Friends and I are hacking this weekend. What should we build?
Synthesize gigwalk and wikileaks into a 100% anonymous marketplace for buying and selling of information based on geo location.
