MailleQuiMaille··on There's a place for everyone
Etymologically speaking, spirituality is related to, well spiritus, related to soul, spirit, vital principles and so on. Religion on the other end comes from religare, which means to bind.

Can you see the difference in meaning of this two words ? One talks about ethereal things without boundaries but the other bounds you to something…

To answer your point, spirituality is broadly speaking your relationship with the invisible world. Is life to you purely material, explored only through the senses or is there more ?

MailleQuiMaille··on There's a place for everyone
Talking about purpose without mentioning spirituality is to me like talking about politics without mentioning wars : feels like a lot of the reasoning behind is missed, either by prudishness, ignorance or bigotry.
MailleQuiMaille··on Founder Mode
Yup. Uber, Airbnb, Spotify…All these companies we glorify for essentially being a well polished middleman are like this. Glad someone else sees it like it is.
MailleQuiMaille··on We are at our most creative just before we fall asleep, scientists say (2022)
A.K.A focus 10, as defined in those infamous CIA papers https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP96-00788R0017002...

One thing I always find interesting is that you always get ideas related to problem or ideas you are familiar with. I never wake up with mechanical solutions nor fashion inspirations, but I reckon that I get more than my fair share of music ideas !

So you are saying that it might have learn by trial and error to use appropriate social signs directed to the appropriate social settings…?

And that differs from us how exactly ?

MailleQuiMaille··on It's Dante's hell – we're just living in it
I always thought this. Same for the fall, which was the consuming of the Forbidden Fruit. For some reason, God(s) did not want us thinking that hard. When I see the world, sometimes, I tend to agree…
MailleQuiMaille··on She slept with a violin on her pillow
Manifestation always works whether you know it or not :)
MailleQuiMaille··on The arena rewards those who arrive early
Another alternative is to not fight. Just be a spectator. The fatigue of having to find the “newest and best arena” really got to me (looking at you, Elon buying twitter)

No, I just read stuff here, write stuff there. It’s a more solitary life, but I don’t regret it.

MailleQuiMaille··on A mathematician who finds poetry in math and math in poetry
As above, so below ;)
MailleQuiMaille··on I'm the guy who bought 259684 Bitcoins for under $3000 yesterday (2011)
I feel like the entire country at this point runs on the statement « You just had to be there sooner ! » Whether it is stocks, houses, jobs, even life expentacy (!!!), newer generations get the shiniest toys and the best memes, but apart from that, I understand why some people have nostalgia for a time they didn’t know. Ah, it’s just a transition, I hope !
MailleQuiMaille··on 23andMe is reportedly turning the blame back on its customers
Sadly, I have to agree. The amount of convincing I had to to try (and fail) to stop friends from using this specific website before the leak… The sad thing is that it’s not necessarily about malice that you should be wary. Stuff like this is a risk too. But yeah, I was a bit harsh, it’s true.
MailleQuiMaille··on Meta has not done enough to safeguard children, whistleblower says
Surprised this is still news, Meta not caring about anything but user engagement !
MailleQuiMaille··on 23andMe is reportedly turning the blame back on its customers
Still your mistake, so in a sense they were right. I dont use DNA services like these especially for cases like these. /s
MailleQuiMaille··on Stop Reading News (2013)
Well, I don’t watch news, or any social network.

My friends tell me about the « big » happenings like Ukraine or Israel big.

The rest, I don’t get and I don’t care. I don’t miss anything regarding the local situation. Yes, if I’m going to see some stand up, maybe I’ll miss on some references, that’s the price I pay for the peace of mind I get by not subjecting myself to demotivating content on the daily. Funnily, about your locus of control argument, focusing on things you can’t control (like inflation, some disease in a land far away or another murder in the USA) is not going to help you deal with things in a better way. Quite the contrary. You have much, much less control than the info you can take in generally.

I don’t know, I think one should be more mindful of their mental diet whenever they engage with a piece of content they can access for free. Especially in our ad driven economy, always being aware of what’s being said and why is it said that way helped me understand a lot, more sometimes than the message in itself.

MailleQuiMaille··on Awareness at Death
We don’t even know what consciousness is, where we come from and why we are here. When you start to delve in the areas of synchronicities, archetypes, placebo effect and quantum mechanics, you realize that science can only get you so far.

I long for a new company exploring the fringe of such phenomena, something like Sony did with ESPER (google it, it’s a nice rabbit hole). I could bet that some people in the world are currently doing this, just not in public.

MailleQuiMaille··on Libraries with individually owned bookshelves spreading in Japan
Ok, I felt the urge to ask : Could someone explain to me why this is a bad idea and it couldn’t happen in, let’s say, Montreal ? Like if I rent a flat, arrange it as a library, put books everywhere and we all pay to have access to books, or the place itself to chill and read ? Am I dreaming ? Could that work ?
MailleQuiMaille··on What OpenAI really wants
Indeed. I realized this also when I couldn’t find anywhere in the article that they also made chatgpt public because they needed new volumes of data training.

Trying to paint it only as “but we wanted to prepare the world for our awesomeness” really gives half, if not less of the picture.

MailleQuiMaille··on How the 'lazy girl job' took over work TikTok
Truly wished more people saw things your way. Why do some older generations feel a resentment at seeing younger kids « having it easier »? That’s the goal of technology.
MailleQuiMaille··on Never waste a midlife crisis
How can I prepare for this ? A lot of the comments mention work, which I’ve already chosen to give less importance in my life, money, which I make enough of for now, family, which I don’t have for now but in progress and overall « meaning of life », which I’m I no investigating almost daily.

I’ve accepted humans are not meant to know what’s up, otherwise we’d know by now. It’s all about the journey one could say. So yeah.

Any other tips ?

MailleQuiMaille··on Ask HN: Are people in tech inside an AI echo chamber?
Funny. As someone within the crypto community, you could switch « AI » with « Crypto » and the meaning would be the same to me. There’s even a worse sentiment, well deserved at this time, regarding cryptocurrencies.

And the answers below, reducing the industry to « drugs » go in the same vein. Stuff like Chainlink working with Swift is not common knowledge and even if it is, it is considered as another nothingburger.

MailleQuiMaille··on The fashion for passion

MailleQuiMaille··on No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health
I realized when I stopped drinking that I thought I needed it to take the edge off, to relax or to be more social. It was all lies. I turned to meditation for when I’m stressed, and the rest I can do it sober. I’d say not drinking anymore is top 5 in my best life decisions, up there with my choice of career and partner.
MailleQuiMaille··on Remote work saved workers 72 minutes per day in 2021 and 2022
That could be the difference between being in shape or not. Or having written a book or not. Even just feeling tired or not. I don’t understand how people can be against remote working.
MailleQuiMaille··on Study: Exxon mobil accurately predicted warming since 1970s
So the « …and yet you live in society » meme ? You don’t see how a company responsible for one of the most potent use case of global warming, knowing about this for 50 years and hiding the truth is more responsible than the average joe just trying to live by ?
