MafellUser··on Palantir: Just Overhyped and Unprofitable?
Highly anecdotal story: a guy I know went to work for Palantir as a sales PM and his TC was in the low GBP 200k. He was a lousy developer with mediocre understanding of technologies but could really smooth talk. I would not be surprised if PLTR is full of people like him.

Can you explain why it's less private?
MafellUser··on The great junk transfer is coming
It's a bit of a cognitive dissonance yes but I do not think they are assholes as you said. They were clearly attached to the items and in essence they people those items once shared the connection. Having strong emotions is not a bad thing, you need to see over the petty complaining.

Quote from the article:

"Sons and daughters who have faced the chore describe wrestling with how to do it properly, respectfully and fairly (also cheaply and quickly) while ghosts hover. The whole process shakes awake buried sorrows, sibling rivalries, family dysfunction. It is never just about the the stuff."

For the tables, in some markets they're primed for being upcycled and you can make some pretty bucks.
MafellUser··on The Bitcoin Investment Thesis Is Broken
Do you have any source for your claim "Criminals still primarily use regular ole' fiat currency for this stuff"? Isn't it much easier to get paid for your ransomware in crypto and remain on chain without having to touch fiat and getting blocked by sanctions?

They are young and only get a couple of hours of exposure per day so they can do that for a few years before they're completely deaf.
MafellUser··on The problem with self-driving cars
I hate quoting Wikipedia but your carphelia bias is really showing.

"The automobile is an inefficient vehicle compared to other modes of transport. This is because the ratio between the mass of the vehicle and the mass of the passengers is much higher when compared to other modes of transport." [1]

MafellUser··on Andrew Ng updates his Machine Learning course
I took this course as a defensive mechanism against BS at work, especially when the consulting Data Scientists were around. In that sense it's super practical.

ML is dominated by gigantic datasets and massive computing powers, something individuals will not have a lot of.

MafellUser··on Korg NTS-2 DIY oscilloscope and wave generator kit
The market is littered with outright dangerous electronic devices but customs won't look into them, the volume is just too high. I stupidly clicked on an ad for an 'energy saving device' because I was curious about the scams an boy there are so many. The only one who can protect you is you yourself.
MafellUser··on The problem with self-driving cars
1. The author meant transportation generally, not personally. Think trains, buses, car pooling etc vs car. On a CO2 per person per mile basis, cars are inefficient. 2, 3. Financial value wise it's a depreciating asset since unlike land you can always make more cars and they break down over time (until very recently where supplies of new cars was disrupted). We can argue all days about opportunity cost but that's beside the point. Cars work for you, no cars work for others. What's the value of having one if you live in a metro area like NYC?

There's nothing wrong nor hyperbolic about the quote you mentioned. Can't say the same about your comments though.
