Sorry to break it to you but if the Feds in the US have it out for you, it won't matter how squeaky clean your record is. They'll fuck you up and ruin your life without batting an eye.

Like a lot of data collection, the meta data gets you pretty far. The who's and where's can be hoovered up with tracking data buys and essentially get you a nice list of who has access to certain areas, which can be used for targeting individuals.
MSFT_Edging··on ICE Has a $2M Contract for Spyware That Can Hack Phones Without a Click
The real terrifying aspect of this whole story has nothing to do with Milo Vs ICE.

It's the fact that these previously cartoonish figures on Twitter are now wielding some level of power.

People love to say "oh just get off those bad social medias", but that fails to recognize how there is now multiple social media sites exercising a high level of coercion and misinformation that is injecting the previously goofy "it's just online" into real life.

The white nationalism that has been boosted by Elon and co IS REAL. It will have lasting effects on every facet of our society. The people who used to be internet clowns are now deporting their enemies.

I can't emphasize this enough, this is BAD.

There is no one with any level of morals or ethics at the wheel. It makes too much money to tear apart society. You can bring up endless cliches, "mainstream media", "billionaires", "politics". But the fact is, news channels have spent endless hours covering Hassan(the twitch streamer) and avoiding actual news. Nearly every facet of society has been captured to manipulate us, and there is no good ending for any of this.

MSFT_Edging··on ICE Has a $2M Contract for Spyware That Can Hack Phones Without a Click
They're suggesting[1] they'll be attempting arrests at polling locations, which due to the statistics on fraudulent votes(statistically microscopic), equates to interference and intimidation since we know ICE isn't beyond arresting US citizens to harass them. This will have a chilling effect on citizens who are remotely non-white, who may avoid voting in person due to the risks associated with interacting with the under-trained ICE forces.

Additionally, USPS's current plans[2] for purging mail-in votes will disenfranchise the other method of voting.

MSFT_Edging··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
This tidbit should show people how the line between "terrorist", "freedom fighter" and "useful lackey" is razor thin.

You should never take the "terrorist" label at face value.

The US funded the Mujaheddin in the 80s in Afghanistan. Their first moves upon receiving the weapons was to throw grenades through the windows if Girls' schools.

They began as the "useful lackey", and the US lost control of the Wahabist movement that was amplified to fight Communism. Then they were "freedom fighters" to the religious extremists, and "terrorists" to fight a war against.

In your own example, Al-Sharaa(a product of weaponizing Wahhabism) did actual terrorism, and then was able to squeeze back into the "useful lackey" position, like many "terrorist"s have before him.

I think this is a very different problem. I'm prescribed those "happy pills" as you call them. I forget to take them regularly, in fact I think you may have just reminded me to take mine as long as I remember by the end of this comment.

There isn't a high, in fact if I don't modulate how I eat and hydrate, I don't feel it. But if I get the timing just right, with the correct breakfast and everything, I can just barely manage to do the boring tasks that normally my brain will do nearly anything to distract me from.

Eventually tolerance does build, I manage that by taking weekends off and every 6 months or so, I'll take 1-2 weeks off cold turkey.

I need this shit to remotely participate in the bullshit gauntlet we call an economy. Without it, I'm essentially disenfranchised. I can get a job by channeling some hyper-focus long enough to show I'm not incompetent, but once the daily grind sets in, the rent payments don't stop.

These medicines are a by-product of the society we produced. We refuse to refine the society so we medicate the incompatibility.

That's a very incorrect reading of what I was trying to say.

I was saying if it was more than a state department propaganda operation, we'd see a lot more coming out. The reporting is starkly different from even reports coming out of Myanmar with the ethnic violence against the Rohingya(which barely gets any attention as-is).

> So just because something bad was allowed to happen, any other bad thing should be allowed?

I was illustrating that the charges levied were politically motivated from the highest levels, as proof that they don't seriously care about political criminality unless it suits them. If the Jan 6th charges stuck, it'd be a different conversation entirely.

They are illegitimate because they have already proven disregard for the law.

MSFT_Edging··on US Government designates host of noblogs.org a "global terrorist"
The Weather Underground committed over a dozen bombings back in the day and the only deaths were WU members from a failed explosive. The wikipedia page has a table of right-wing terror attacks while the page for left-wing terror mostly describes guerilla groups in civil wars.

Generally no, Antifa is not a violent organization in the same way that violent white-nationalist/neonazi groups are violent.

Antifa hasn't shot up a church/synagogue/mosque. Followers of modern fascist sects have.

You're either willfully ignorant or purposefully biased to consider them on the same playing field.

MSFT_Edging··on US Government designates host of noblogs.org a "global terrorist"
It's always curious to me how property damage weighs the same or worse than violence against real humans.

I've had people tell me with a straight face that broken windows make one group just as bad as the group threatening violence based on ethnic lines. I don't get it.

Genocide-level infrastructure?

If there were satellite photos of extensive camps, why wouldn't we be shown?

We got to see one or two possible camps, but they were disassembled.

People can travel in Xinjiang. I've seen the increased security on display in those videos, but it was primarily local police keeping tabs on the tourist to avoid some international incident.

When something real happens, you see many different sources reporting on it. People share it on social media, multiple agencies report first hand.

When the state department is trying to influence discussion, it's all think tanks.

Only if your definition of "hacker" is limited to "begging for VC money for your b2b SAAS".

Through the entire history of the phrase "hacker", there have been hackers concerned about human rights, political causes, anti-corporate measures, etc.

Personally I consider myself a hacker and will not abide by the narrow definition you set forth. I'm a hacker because I'm pissed off that money controls our lives and I seek out to regain control wherever I can.

Something I find really ironic is when people will declare superior and inferior types of humans, then in the same breath relate it to evo-psych or animal behaviors.

Like if any of us are superior, why can't we reason past what chimps are doing in their evolutionary local maxima?

In order for us to be superior to anything, we need to be able to use logic to move past animalistic behaviors.

It's laughable to call that an "antifa cell", especially as they're abusing terrorism charges to send someone away for life for moving zines.

We have white-nationalist groups actually organizing and training. Shipping in Khaki clad warriors in box trucks to shout slurs and intimidate people.

We have videos of said groups doing weapons training like the Al Qaeda training videos of the 2000s.

Antifa? Your primary source is one of the greatest abortions of justice we've seen this decade.

We have cell phones and satellite imagery now.

We can also trace the endless deluge of articles with their citations and see almost every single one ends up at a thinktank laundering the Zenz report.

There is an actual genocide in Palestine right now where we watch in HD as missiles are leveling apartment blocks and ripping apart the families of doctors while they tend to the wounded.

There is also a war in Ukraine where we can watch the destruction of vast swaths of land and people in a WWI esque meat grinder.

What did we have for Xinjiang besides a whole lot of "trust-me"s from known anti-communism orgs? A few interviews? a couple pictures of prisoners?

MSFT_Edging··on Fake US thinktank set up and funded by Israel sought to game AI for propaganda
The associated press reported the camps closing nearly 5 years ago.

The entire conversation around the Uyghur "Genocide" has never been serious. The claim of genocide came from the estimated rate of population growth reducing(to a still positive rate) and the actual report, written by a high up member of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation specifically used the phrase "Cultural Genocide".

Additionally, the region was a focus in the early 2000s during the War on Terror, when China asked to include the extremist groups in terror watch lists. The US agreed and they were included up until a couple years prior to the events in Xinjiang.

These were essentially re-education camps focused on radicalized groups. If anything, it's a more productive path than similar efforts, ie the ex-ISIS camps in Syria.

Those never seem to be mentioned in tandem. They're supported nominally by western countries, where ex-isis members and families are kept indefinitely. Thousands of stateless prisoners, including women with children are kept there. When the boys reach the age of 14(iirc), they're put in the actual prisons with the men. Those camps essentially concentrate the extremism for the eventuality of the camps' closure. No attempts were made for deradicalization.

Last time I looked into it, the technical approach was equivalent to throwing a bunch of things at a gas fire. It's just a pre-configured arch install that introduces a metric ton of tech debt.

> The concept of Brand was highly diminished during the manufacturing outsource phase

Ironically I'd say that this was what firmly cemented the concept. Brands truly gained their power when they separated themselves from what they produce and the name providing it. Previously, brands were tied to the quality of their items. When they separated the idea, it enabled brands to become lifestyles and cultural signifiers, which skyrocketed the profitability of being a brand rather than a producer of a good.

I went to a camera store in-person yesterday for work. We needed a lens for a camera already purchased by our company, and we were able to shoot the shit with a super knowledgeable employee absolutely surrounded by lenses, frames, accessories, etc.

We ended up not purchasing anything due to some unknowns, but when my PM told me we'd just order what we need I told him if the price is remotely the same we should go back to the store a few blocks away because had I not spent 15 minutes chatting I would have wasted hours reading blogs/ads trying to figure out what I needed.

MSFT_Edging··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
We're quick to want to automate trucking, manufacturing, even knowledge jobs and say "ooh but the horse shoe maker became the tire installer" but the pointless middleman jobs making everyone's health worse seems to be the line in the sand for job automation.

You can't touch the legions of people who exist to make things more expensive.

MSFT_Edging··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots
I have been yelling about the thinktank "truth laundering" industry for years now.

They were instrumental in the whole "Uyghur genocide" thing where the only proof was Adrien Zenz suggesting there would be a possible future decline in population growth and called it a "cultural genocide".

The US State department has been running things like "Radio Free Asia" as state propaganda mills for decades. This has broken out into an industry of insiders getting board seats on various think tanks and churning out essentially policy desires as "studies". These studies are then used as citations for actual news articles to launder the policy desires into something that seems like a reliable source. Then people say "Look! this is really happening!" while 100s of articles are written citing the same untrustworthy sources, laundered through dozens of thinktanks funded by the DoD and state dept.

I run both Plex and Jellyfin. The joy of Plex is I can log in on my work machine to listen to my music without having to install and client-side software, running personal VPNs, worrying about the security merit of the Jellyfin log in screen on a public facing service running on my home server, etc.

On my home network? Jellyfin all day except for random encoding issues.
