M3L0NM4N··on A daytime nap is good for the brain
I don't know if they're popular at my work but they're certainly popular in my car.
M3L0NM4N··on Bad waitress: Dying on your feet
Yes eventually, but I don't have money right now.
M3L0NM4N··on Bad waitress: Dying on your feet
I think when I am at that point in my life I will agree. But I am early on in my career.
M3L0NM4N··on Bad waitress: Dying on your feet
Many people are willing to sell their dignity for the right price, however. Me included.
M3L0NM4N··on Travel across Germany with the 49 Euro ticket
> But unlike in rural Saxony, they are countered by a strong, active Antifa community, which seldom hesitates using violence to stop far-right activities.
M3L0NM4N··on PyPI Was Subpoenaed
To be clear, I'm not advocating for it. But if people couldn't use the internet/communications to plan or communicate criminal activities, crime would reduce (to some degree, meaningful or not).
M3L0NM4N··on PyPI Was Subpoenaed
I mean, surveillance reduces crime. Wherever you fall on the spectrum of surveillance/privacy, I can guarantee if the government read everything everyone wrote/texted/read and recorded their every move, there would be less crime.
M3L0NM4N··on I helped Pfizer think through the ethics of Viagra 25 years ago
I just saw chili peppers being advertised as "natural Viagra" today in Amalfi.
M3L0NM4N··on What happened with ASUS routers this morning?
I use Windows + WSL, but I would switch to Mac for dev in a heartbeat.
M3L0NM4N··on YouTuber who staged plane crash faces up to 20 years jail
Anyone following this from the beginning knew it was fake. Glad he tacked on another charge by pleading guilty to obstruction of the investigation.
M3L0NM4N··on Commuter Cars Tango
Billionaires...
M3L0NM4N··on Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers
I just presented an argument for a specific case. I think you read a little too much into it.
M3L0NM4N··on The Two Cultures (1959) [pdf]
I don't think that's nitpicky, I think that's a very clear flaw.
M3L0NM4N··on Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers
I agree. Tax rates are a bit of a moot point when money printer go brrr.
M3L0NM4N··on Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers
Healthcare is its own issue in the US, as I think the general populous is on average a good bit unhealthier than the average Norwegian, for example. I think it's a combination of poor health education (which also goes back to spending) and culture.
M3L0NM4N··on Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers
Agreed, but private companies also face competition (which incentivizes as little waste as possible) that the government does not.
M3L0NM4N··on Google Earth 3D Models Now Available as Open Standard (GlTF)
I see, that is an unnecessarily confusing naming convention in the title.
M3L0NM4N··on Startups Are Scooping Up Big Tech’s Cast-Off Workers
That is, in my opinion, by far the strongest argument for lower taxes. The money we (the US) do spend in education/healthcare/infrastructure is already poorly utilized, why would we want to spend more and end up like that?

To simplify it dramatically with an example, I'd rather pay $3 on the toll road and $50k for a surgery myself than pay $10 in taxes towards the road and $100k in taxes towards the healthcare system but receive both of them for "free".

I understand the advantages of a social safety net, I do. But misappropriation of someone's hard-earned money is frustrating as well.

M3L0NM4N··on Google Earth 3D Models Now Available as Open Standard (GlTF)
I know nothing about GITF, but I wonder if Microsoft Flight Sim could automatically read these files in to overwrite the default Microsoft scenery.

I have some scenery add-ons that are just a manual conversion of Google Earth's 3D models for some cities that were just generic buildings in Microsoft's version (ex. Dallas)

M3L0NM4N··on The money spent on lotteries doesn’t go to the park
Just the level of grift happening here tells me the government is paying way too much for this website to begin with.
M3L0NM4N··on Astral
I agree, but I also don't make the decision. The free market decides whether their value proposition is enough, so the company's success is dependent on the developer demand.
M3L0NM4N··on iOS 17 will reportedly set the stage for sideloading apps on iPhone
Gaming, Gambling, and Porn also happen to be my 3 larges sources of dopamine.
M3L0NM4N··on Yeah, about that active comeback...
Most people don't win the lottery, they have an income they can continuously invest.
M3L0NM4N··on Yeah, about that active comeback...
I mean, most people don't just invest all their savings in the stock market at once. Continually investing over time, or DCA, is super important.
M3L0NM4N··on Lofi air traffic control – LAX
Lol I started listening to Spanish music to work around that issue as well, but when I listen to the same song so long I can get used to it, plus I speak a basic level of Spanish.
M3L0NM4N··on Near-lossless image formats using ultra-fast LZ codecs
Orrr, the grid is moved towards renewable energy so that the fear of global warming doesn't stunt technological advancements?
M3L0NM4N··on New insights into why aspirin works so well
Airplanes and lift are an example of this that I always come back to.
M3L0NM4N··on Typst, a new markup-based typesetting system, is now open source
Looks very cool, but LaTeX still feels superior for non-mathematical documents like a resumé, right?
M3L0NM4N··on There Were Half As Many Affordable Homes For Sale In 2022 As There Were In 2021
Not saying we don't need more affordable housing in the US (we absolutely do), but I would expect rich people to own more homes than the typical household, so I don't think this stat is as egregious as it initially appears.

It wouldn't be unordinary for a rich person to own 3 unaffordable homes for the typical household, whereas the typical household will only own 1 affordable home.

M3L0NM4N··on Easter egg in flight path of last 747 delivery flight
Right when I clicked this the plane started taking off again.
