LordShredda··on “A calculator app? Anyone could make that”
People call that a JIT compiler nowadays (?)
LordShredda··on PhysicsForums and the Dead Internet Theory
Don't give out your real name online, the server admin might change your posts.
LordShredda··on VS Code Pets
A cat that spins around in circles if it detects a function results in an infinite loop?
LordShredda··on No Billionares at FOSDEM
He's not "violating" someone's freedom to listen to a talk, but rather he hates the guy and wants him gone. At least he's doing something about it
LordShredda··on Web apps built with Ruby on Rails
I think the reason rails has stuck around is because of it being a very opinionated framework and it dictates a method to do almost anything. This allows the docs to be very straightforward, almost as if they were written for the Rails application itself.

I also think the language itself is a big plus. I don't like the reflection system or hot patching being a feature in a language, but rails makes extensive use of it to create it's own domain specific language.

LordShredda··on Candy Crush, Tinder, MyFitnessPal: Apps hijacked to spy on location
I love AntennaPod. One app that does its job perfectly
LordShredda··on uBlock Origin GPL code being stolen by team behind honey browser extension
I would never install anything advertised on youtube. Not claiming that I'm an elitist, but the audience on youtube would not have the ability to differentiate between a chocolate bar and a landmine.
LordShredda··on Google Illuminate: Books and papers turned into audio
People have been reading bot spam for ages, and already watch auto generated spam. I'd expect this to pick up once it gets cheap enough
LordShredda··on Who uses Accept-Language header?
Ruby on Rails has built in localization and actually respects whatever headers the user agent sends
LordShredda··on Anarchy in Sudan has spawned the world’s worst famine in 40 years
you can say genocidal, this isn't Facebook. I'd still imagine the UAE has independent goals
LordShredda··on Wush: Simplest and fastest way to transfer files between computers via WireGuard
Probably SCP, but modern firewalls and routers automatically block that port and no one thought of making a half decent GUI
LordShredda··on A Jenga tower about to collapse: Software erosion is happening all around us
Just because firefox sucks doesn't mean the global economy is collapsing
LordShredda··on Make Firefox Private Again
It's disabled on Arch by default. Maybe choose an operating system that doesn't treat you like a product?
LordShredda··on YouTube Video to Tabs and Lyrics
re: edit Can I ask for said competing product? I really like the idea and want to see how others do it
LordShredda··on Türkiye Bans Roblox
simply false and a simple search brings up more results
LordShredda··on CSC ServiceWorks laundry machine coin bypass (2023)
Then what happens when the landlord goes to collect the money and sees the box is empty?
LordShredda··on STS-93: We don’t need any more of those (2014)
> It was just a couple of minutes later that one of the projectors hanging from the ceiling in Mission Control – the projectors that put up the displays on the front screens – overheated and started smoking. Quick action by the Ground Control officer to shut it off probably prevented a fire in the MCC, which would have lead to an evacuation.

Everyone prepares for complete engine failure, but no one expects and electrical fire in the office

LordShredda··on Ask HN: Am I crazy or is Android development awful?
Except, phones have exceptional cameras. You'd be spending just as much on a dedicated camera
LordShredda··on Prolog Formulation of the Constitution of Japan
Much like the actual japanese constitution, this is unreadable. But maybe because I can't read Japanese. Prolog is definitely a language of a long gone era
LordShredda··on Leaked payroll data show how much Valve pays staff and how few people it employs
Let's be honest, it's an Adobe issue
LordShredda··on Leaked payroll data show how much Valve pays staff and how few people it employs
Steam might have a very disproportionate market share, but no one complains a lot because the competition is downright laughable. Internet companies are very low maintenance

It has a very low barrier to entry for devs and a permissive DRM compared to other stores. A powerful review system and a return policy better than anyone else I've seen so far. Very community friendly and has an entire feature dedicated to hosting user mods and creations. Right now they're wasting money on VR just because they can

Is it a monopoly when no one else is able to compete even on the technical side?

LordShredda··on Show HN: I made a simple Markdown blog creator
You're posting on HN, everyone here knows how to setup apache. I'd suggest you target less technically inclined people or offer more features than github pages. Honestly, just having an easier way to publish than github pages would be a good idea
LordShredda··on Google testing facial recognition technology for security near Seattle
This is weapons research.
LordShredda··on Bashbro – Make Any Comp a Web-Based File Server
Un ordi?
LordShredda··on Reverse engineering Ticketmaster's rotating barcodes
I can't buy a ticket in my country, because my phone number is foreign. Can I use this to have someone buy it for me and transfer it to me?
LordShredda··on Show HN: I built a JavaScript-powered flipdisc display
I think the javascript here plays a rather small part in the entire assembly.
LordShredda··on The Nonprofit Industrial Complex and the Corruption of the American City
No economic incentive, more of a sense of responsibility to society and some nationalism. look at the UAE where the incentive is more political or for prestige.
LordShredda··on GPUs Go Brrr
Standford research team just published an article with a wojak in it. That by itself is bigger news than AI
LordShredda··on Stack Overflow users deleting answers after OpenAI partnership
Does it matter if stack overflow is toxic or not? You're there to ask a question and get an answer. If you ask wrong, you get corrected. Tough moderation makes search much faster and better for other askers.

You're there to ask for help not make friends. They have to be polite, but not gentle

LordShredda··on Microsoft bans U.S. police from using enterprise AI tool for facial recognition
You know what we mean by drugs. Not coffee, not alcohol.
