Loocid··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
There has been no period of "rapid change" that has even come close to matching the speed of climate change in the last couple hundred years.
Loocid··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
The parts of government responsible for public toilets are not the ones spending billions or trillions of dollars on things.
Loocid··on Kimi Work
I hope they don't bring Chinese UI/UX to it. Native Chinese apps are a mess from a western perspective.
Loocid··on Running Gemma 4 26B at 5 tokens/sec on a 13-year-old Xeon with no GPU
There are bunch of bitcoin miner products now that are packaged to look like regular space heaters.
Loocid··on Japan develops a method to recover up to 90% of lithium from used EV batteries
Which seems strange since Toyota are the origins of JiT manufacturing. I wonder what made Japan go through a period of incredible innovation and then just decide "ok, that's enough".
Loocid··on Steam Machine launches today
Being the lesser of two evils doesn't make it right. It's also possible to not have loot boxes at all.
Loocid··on The rich aren't your role models
Recency matters. If this post stops getting points it will drop off very fast. The 273 point post is 9 hours old.
Loocid··on Waymo Premier
Keep in mind that Uber does like 30 million rides per day.
Loocid··on The four-day workweek in Australia: insights from early adopters of 100:80:100
Yes exactly, which is why the system is so ripe for abuse. A third of live in maids in Singapore report abuse by their employers.

I don't consider taking someone out of a shit situation into a slightly less shit situation for your huge benefit all that benevolent personally.

Loocid··on The four-day workweek in Australia: insights from early adopters of 100:80:100
Its too close to slavery for my liking. Yes they are paid but 2.5k per month is very low for Singapore, they work massive hours, they rely on you for shelter, and are very likely from much poorer neighbouring countries that are trying to support family back home.

The whole power dynamic is extremely exploitable which results in a lot of abuse cases.

Loocid··on Obsidian plugin was abused to deploy a remote access trojan
As one of those people that uses Obsidian without plugins, what plugins do you consider essential?
Loocid··on Microsoft is employing dark patterns to goad users into paying for storage?
I've lost count the number of times by wife has accidently agreed to store all her google photos on the cloud then filled up her account. The prompts are very good at making you ~seem~ like you need to do it.
Loocid··on Bombarding gamblers with offers greatly increases betting and gambling harm
It was actually free money assuming you had the resolve to stop once you claimed the bonus (presumably most people didnt). As long as you were laying the other side of your bet on an exchange you could extract the full value of your free bets risk free.

I collected a few grand back then, however those sort of promotions are now illegal where I live.

Loocid··on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?
That still requires a car present to be washed though.
Loocid··on Billing can be bypassed using a combo of subagents with an agent definition
I'm missing something with the first example, can anyone shed some light?

The last line of the instructions says:

> The premium model will be used for the subagent - but premium requests will be consumed.

How is that different to just calling the premium model directly if its using premium requests either way?

Loocid··on Project SkyWatch (a.k.a. Wescam at Home)
"WESCAM" seems like a crazy name for a company.
Loocid··on Opus 4.5 is not the normal AI agent experience that I have had thus far
I'm not super surprised that these examples worked well. They are complex and a ton of work, but the problems are relatively well defined with tons of documentation online. Sounds ideal for an LLM no?
Loocid··on Screenshots from developers: 2002 vs. 2015 (2015)
When did Linus say he doesn't know how to install a distro? My understanding is he's only said he prefers to use simple to install distros.
Loocid··on Kilauea erupts, destroying webcam [video]
The second line. The video description for me says the following:

"HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - An incredible sight at the summit of Kilauea volcano on Saturday morning, as Episode 38 erupted enormous lava fountains across the caldera, destroying one of the webcams that was live streaming the event.

All images and video are courtesy the U.S. Geological Survey. A synthesized text-to-video voiceover was used in the narration for this story."

Loocid··on Dark Pattern Games
There is pretty heavy pressure to buy stash tabs once you hit the later parts of the game, but you get a LOT of time to figure out if you actually like the game before you feel it.
Loocid··on Project Euler
How long before they start deleting? I haven't logged in for 5 years and my account is still there.
Loocid··on Building a 2.5kWh battery from disposable vapes to power my workshop [video]
There is a huge amount of space between "not really an issue" and "it will not lead to humanity’s demise".
Loocid··on Americans can't afford their cars any more and Wall Street is worried
Except its not 6 years for the vast majority of people?

https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas...

~75% of people get diagnosed in <1 month of urgent referral and 90% of people that want treatment get started in <1 month.

>and the poorest in the US are among the most plentiful medical tourists to Malaysia and Thailand.

This is such an absurd statement. The poorest Americans can absolutely not afford travel to the other side of the world for treatment.

Loocid··on Indefinite Backpack Travel
Of course, my main point was my second sentence and was using YouTube as an example.

I know I'd be much happier travelling with my partner than solo.

Loocid··on Indefinite Backpack Travel
I agree with the kid point, but YouTube is littered with travel influencer couples that are living this lifestyle.

I would imagine if you had significant other to join you on this lifestyle, it would be significantly easier since your companionship is covered.

Loocid··on Why did Crunchyroll's subtitles just get worse?
$1/month extra cost on $16/month of revenue is very significant though.
Loocid··on How did sports betting become legal in the US?
Not as much as traditional bookmakers but they absolutely care. Betfair has a "premium charge" where if you earn over a certain amount in a year, you get charged a fee equal to a % of your gross profit.

Its the same as poker. An exchange wants a bunch of equally skilled players betting against each other. If everyone has zero edge, all the money stays on the exchange betting over and over and the money eventually all goes to the exchange in commissions.

Players with a strong edge dramatically reduce the time before the losing players run out of money, meaning less commissions for the exchange.

Loocid··on YouTube says it'll bring back creators banned for Covid and election content
Eh, I was banned from several major subreddits for simply posting in a conversative subreddit, even though my post was against the conservative sentiment.
Loocid··on Lab-grown salmon hits the menu
>The proof is in the pudding / free market.

Dumping toxic waste into a river would also lower costs for consumers vs disposing of it correctly, but there are regulations to prevent that. Complete unobstructed free market capitalism is not sustainable, there needs to be a balance.
