Imagine you are infected. Its not lethal. Just different. The air smells like chocolate. And you get hypnotized and high- by fire. But is not dangerous- after all- all you know are infected. Your family. Your tribe. The whole world is infected, so anyone not infected, would be "sick" objectively.

So every day, you gather what you can find, and you carry it to the pile. The pile is a never ceasing fire, burning in a mile high chimney, errected in competitions among tribes. Its hard to ignore- all those walking towards the firestorm, carrying sacrifices- once the sunrise and sunset mass orgasm subsides.

Maybe you found coal, you have talent, you are worthy, you can feel the burning envy of the others. The one left to you, carries some brushes, the one right to you carries a struggling fat deer. Oh, how it will burn, oh the joys.

All of you have the mycelium behind your eyes- that spark never to cease. At the distance, some youths howl insults at the caravan, not strong enough to carry yet, dismissing the joys of the front row out of jealousy. They will find something, find their place, they will wake up to the joy, carrying some dehydrated, light husk to the pillar of awe. Even now they are hiding some candle or torch.

You slough towards the heat, some sweating the ash off, some collapsing, even in spasms- the eye on the inferno and its priests. Some are deprived off the joy, to deliver coolant, to maintain roads or shovell ashes. The joyless, you pity them- you hit them if they come between you and the pyre. Then the orange fills the world, joy is you, and you dance, forward, backward. Foam is on your mouth. Till you collapse from your body giving way. A Joyless carries you home, some lonely replaceable hole, in a well organized dessert, a empty cave in the anthill on a empty plain - where you, where you all sleep. For tomorrow, before dusk you will rise.

You will walk out into the inferno- telling yourself, that you are pure. One of the lucky few, to be burned away, for another day. You are the burning men. You always wanted this.

You know what - seperation from society, aka the public plaza from any religion and attempts to impose religion like dogmas/rules/systems.

It really is the most easy way out. Nobody gets to errect his borderwalls of textile or lack thereof in main street. We vote on a standard, and thats it. That way all those warmongers steering the soupkitchen of hate cant warm on the heat of the debate. The only solution is not to play.

LifeLiverTransp··on A Canadian Bill Proposes Barring Public Employees from Wearing Head Scarves
It shouldnt matter. But that dream is for another paradise edition of earth yet to come.

Its really difficult to find out wether a piece of clothing was a personal choice or something chosen/force upon a person to define in and outgroups. Basically, it boils down to detecting a thought-crime against open society.

So why not agree on some middle ground. Transparent Headscarfs? Headscarfs made from hair-extensions? Something like that?

Most jews dont wear the kippah in most countrys anyway, because its bound to attract harassment.
LifeLiverTransp··on A Canadian Bill Proposes Barring Public Employees from Wearing Head Scarves
That headscarf is there for one and one reason only. To shame other women. If the catholic church jumped out of the history books to demand the right for its believers to wear it in office- you would rightfully tell them no. Because what that scarf yells at all those who do not wear it, through the voice of all the "believers" is "harlet, wrench, slut". If that thing was pushed by the catholic church, or evangelicals, you would be on the barricades by now. But it is by a supressed minority? Well that minority is not supressed in over 40 countries. In fact its the majority there, and supresses anyone not wearing a headscarf. Want to see what happens if you do not wear a headscarf there?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/05/egypt-women-ra...

That machoism is very real in the middle east- and the headscarf is part of the dividing and conquering. Nothing less. Cause there is always the mother and saint who wears it and the "cheap" whores free to hunt who dont.

May be that for some, this clothing has already lost its symbolism, like the white-wedding dress lost the symbolism of virginity it once held for christianity. If it has no symbolic value, why make such a fuzz about wearing it at all?

But in that case, i rather be safe then sorry.

LifeLiverTransp··on Ask HN: What are your best learning methods/hacks/tips?
I had a serious math problem when i started studying at university. Not only had i not used math in a long time (except the most basic algebra). I had build a sincere rejection mechanism to it, beeing force fed by my rather religious parents, and thus having turned on math with the same scorched earth policy of ignorance i applied to bible studies.

The trick to overcome that almost physical reaction, was to couple it with something i loved. Which was programming games. So sinus and cosinus was needed? I would add grenades using sinewaves for bouncing, scaled by a time factor. It was not always usefull or meaningfull work. But i kept the problems in my head, until i understood and could solve them with the new tools i got.

So i guess that is my advice, take something you love and glue what you want to learn to it. Switch frequently so that you have successes and not just non stop starting frustration. Apply in large doses.

LifeLiverTransp··on History of Biosphere 2
I still liked the old launch procedures where people where involved and no hyper sonic missiles. Back then, some guy could step back and say - "Okay, its all fucked, so why should i drop one more rock at some poor town in nowheristan?" and give those after us a living chance by behaving reasonable. Today that wont happen, and the machines are that much more likely to just MCAS kill us via a design failure.
LifeLiverTransp··on The Death of External Storage: Where's Google?
So summed up- there will soon be a app called file-system, which provides the expected behaviour through the Object-Orientated Cruft to every app needing it?

Men, i would con some Venture Capital guy into building this, by giving the ilusion somebody else has already built a version, but im just too lazy. Would hire some students, but those would just copy paste it together from stack overflow.
LifeLiverTransp··on Plagiarism detectors are a crutch, and a problem

LifeLiverTransp··on Forget Bribery – The Real Scam Is Pretending That Degrees Have Value
Not wanting to insult, but im often called as a firemen to projects that have been run and run-into-the-ground by self-tought people.

I do not believe that university fullfills a really good role when it comes to filtering for intelligence, it rather filters for familys who put pressure to preservere on kids. But they do a really good job, on forcing people through stuff, that a self-tought person might skip- because they found it useless or not applicable. Algorithm theory and the limits of computation? That is a dry topic and tough to get through without beeing forced too. Software-architecture? Cant see me using that- those small projects i worked on always worked well without. And so on and so forth.

University does one thing right, it forces you to be interested in stuff you do not know you should be interested in.

I do find the filtering out of people who go to university - either by school grades or by monetary parent background really nasty though. In my eyes, anyone who is shown to apply himself, should be able to stay at a higher education.

LifeLiverTransp··on Librarians prepare to take a harder line with publishers
If you loudly have to announce your harder line /stance on something, you are showing how little internal stability your group/alliance/cartel/whatever has.

Because what you are trying to accomplish, is basically to force any strike-breakers in your alliance to be publicly shamed.

Those who really drive a hard line, are most of the time unheard of, they just come, negotiate you down into the ground and you have to smile and wave. Cause atleast the factory you have does not make minus and earn 1 cent a hour.

LifeLiverTransp··on F-35: What The Pilots Say
Your argument basically boils down to- we need specialized aircrafts depending on the mission. However, the F35 was exactly created to circumvent this- to have a aircraft that can fullfill any aircraft mission and excell in it. It was supossed to be the swiss-pocket knife of airplanes.

LifeLiverTransp··on Nasa cancels all-female spacewalk, citing lack of spacesuit in right size
Spacesuits - are not "clothing"- they are miniships. They can bring you into a world of missery, if they do not fit.

They even bring you into a world of missery if they do fit.

https://www.space.com/9217-spacesuit-gloves-astronauts-finge...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_Absorbency_Garment

The truth is, if the mini-spaceship does not fit, you can not work properly outside. You can try, but you will fight more with the mini-spaceship, then with the task you should accomplish.

What fascinates me is how, they do not have a 2nd spacesuit up there if that spacewalk was planned that way. Nasa usually does not mess up logistics.

There is a whole school of programming by now around not closing ones eyes to the actual hardware engineering - of course fought against by the church of moores law, who hoped to finally abstract away all those details into virtual machines. And they wouldt have got away with it too, if it were not for those plateauing speed gains.

LifeLiverTransp··on Why Is Silicon Valley So Obsessed with the Virtue of Suffering?
Everytime stoicism comes up, im reminded of the seneca reading cyborg in the "Last of his kind" from andreas eschbach. Its a fantastic view on the space age dream crippling a human beeing and the recovering of its dignity and will to live through stoicism.

Stoicism- is to have the dignity of not beeing a slave of ones own emotions, in happiness as in suffering.

LifeLiverTransp··on Winter War
This seems to clash with the export of the revolution to other countrys during the cold war. Even in the early years , when stalin was still alive. Its also hard to imagine, that any dictator willingly would hold back- after he already coluded with another dictator to share the spoils of war (poland).
LifeLiverTransp··on Winter War
Also, at the time- it couldnt get much worse then stalin, for most invaded countries. The ukraine had the holdomor and enthusiastically joined the german "liberators" in driving sovjet forces back.

Of course, these "national" liberation movements where double betrayed when the german racism became obvious.
