LeoDaVibeci··on Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone
Great write up, thanks for posting. I think I could have avoided so many mistakes in my life if I had just spoken to someone about my plans first.

And not necessarily just based on their feedback, but just hearing the words come out of my mount and predicting their reactions would have helped a ton.

I've needed this so many times. BTW this should be a meme: "I think this might be the neatest thing I’ve built in X that nobody will ever notice."
LeoDaVibeci··on Can LLMs Scale to AGI?
You might want to check out Yann LeCun’s arguments—they’re pretty interesting. TL;DR: he sees LLMs as a dead end and backs that up with concrete examples.

LeoDaVibeci··on A List of Post-Mortems
Thanks for sharing. This is great prompting material for pre-mortems! Or for notebookLM to generate some bedtime stories ..
LeoDaVibeci··on Do I even want to be a coder anymore?
In some ways I love being a coder more than ever! I can focus on the interesting parts (system architecture, concurrency concepts, memory mgmt) and let the coding agent slog over the tedious stuff.

It sounds like you're working for a slave driver that's trying to squeeze every last drop of juice out of your productivity. That might be the root issue.

LeoDaVibeci··on Supabase Auth and FastMCP Example
I burnt several hours getting this to work -- hope it helps anyone else wrangling with it!

Actually I was going to just use Prefect Horizon, but I wasn't even able to sign-up. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise though, since now I think I understand the MCP + OAuth 2.1 handshake a lot better.

LeoDaVibeci··on Ask HN: Who is using OpenClaw?
Proactive agents are going to be a thing. OpenClaw is just an early search in the solution space.
LeoDaVibeci··on Improving my focus by giving up my big monitor
I have always avoided multiple monitor setups for this reason, however, I don't think the size of my monitor affects things as much as my usage of it.

Have you tried using a big monitor but just keeping windows as full-screen? I find this to be much less distracting. And of course, phone face down and notifications turned off.

Not my app, but I'll plug Dayflow here (YC backed). It's really great for measuring what you're working on, and they have local only mode for full privacy.

LeoDaVibeci··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
Isn't it open source?

Or is there an open source front-end and a closed backend?

LeoDaVibeci··on Ollama is now powered by MLX on Apple Silicon in preview
Honestly I can't believe Apple put that foundation model product out the door. I was so excited about it, but when I tried it, it was such a disappointment. Glad to hear you calling that out so I know it wasn't just me.

Looks like they have pivoted completely over to Gemini, thank god.

LeoDaVibeci··on “CEO said a thing” journalism
At least it's slightly more interesting than "company X raises Y millions at Z billions valuation", but point taken
LeoDaVibeci··on The case for becoming a manager
Makes sense. You're managing lots of things (architecture, processes, etc), but you're just not directly managing people.
LeoDaVibeci··on The case for becoming a manager
As another commenter mentioned, the first role is Vision + Leadership, and the second role is more like Support + Mentorship.

Personally I would love do the first, and the second one feels more like HR should do. Of course, HR doesn't have the specialization needed for that, but maybe they should expand into that? HRO - Human Resource Optimization.

LeoDaVibeci··on The case for becoming a manager
Titles are such gross oversimplifications, I wonder if "manager" even holds much meaning anymore?

If you look at the IC track of the engineering ladder at a big tech company, the "Distinguished/Principal Engineer" is technically an IC role, but they have so much organization leadership responsibility that it feels wrong to say they aren't doing high level "management" as part of their role.

I have trouble wrapping my head around the exact distinction of manager vs IC the higher up the engineering ladder you go.

I imagine as a Principal Engineer you are essentially directing other tech leaders, even though you don't directly perform performance reviews on them? (that's for the SVP Eng?)

LeoDaVibeci··on I turned my Kindle into my own personal newspaper
That's so cool, I would love to have a less distracting experience while reading the news.

It could even be paired with an AI summary service that could summarize Reddit/HN activity, like Huxe does in it's generated podcasts.
