Seriously asking because from me this is the only point from understanding if we are in fact dealing with totalitarians already or not yet. I assume this is morphing slowly into a totalitarian state. But who will be sacrificed? Who will be the internal enemy. That puzzle is missing for me. Who will be used to keep us scared?
The scenario I think is possible: like with world trade centers, via/nsa/whatever will do some kind of horrible 'terrorist' attack on the US soil. Thousands will be killed. And the whole thing blamed on OWS -- or -- Patriots -- or -- both of these groups at the same time -- and prosecuted without courts in concentration camps a.k.a "Gauntanmo Bay". I know, I know, sounds like sci-fi. Anyone taking bets on that though?
Because that's the only part of the puzzle they are missing. And if you ask me, the reason why they selected 'terrorism' as the target is not an incident. That's the only tactics that can be employed successfully against strong, organized total government effectively. Both Polish and French underground soldiers were called terrorists by the Nazis.
If you take away democracy from people - at has already happened in the US where whoever we vote into the office will just do the same thing - the only option you leave them is violence. Terror. If you know and understand that - as they USG had known for a long time - your first step will be making them the public enemy #1 even before you start morphing the country into a totalitarian state.
Who can be accused of terrorism? Even 82-old nuns are. http://jezebel.com/5943373/82+year+old-nun-breaks-into-the-f...
Why not me for writing the above? The punishment? No right to lawyer, no right to due process, torture, indefinite imprisonment in de facto concentration camp. WAKE UP!
And yet, I agree, there are historians who will claim that The Holy Roman Empire had nothing to do with Roman Empire. Still it is debatable. There is no correct/incorrect here. For me the Holy Roman Empire was the continuation of the Roman Empire.
Lisbon Treaty is almost exactly the same document as the one they called the EU Constitution. Because the Constitution was voted no, instead of changing the content and addressing the issue the people of France and Netherlands had with it, they introduced a trick. Repackaged everything into a "treaty", so it doesn't need people's approval in referendum anymore. It can be just voted into existence at parliamentary level. And that's what happened. To have their constitution they had to change it's name and give up on the idea of referendums for it. Again, they disrespected democracy and their arrogance towards regular folk on the street is staggering.
>Even the greeks could quit the EU at any time, but they cannot quit their debts which they entered into as a sovereign nation.
Of course they can. Any sovereign nation can simply stop repaying its debts. That's how nations go bankrupt. Nation is not a business. You screw up with a nation for too long, people loose patience and ooopppssss… neo-nazi Golden Dawn at 22% support in Greece. But for some people the most important thing in the world is bankster bonus. Neo-nazis governing Greece? Who cares as long as the Euro currency and bankster bonuses can continue!
>Greece lied, for years, about their ability to repay loans, to get more loans than they could handle, and they even went so far as to ask big american financial companies to help them cook their books, which shows it wasn't just a lapse in judgment.
Let me give you example. I'm an investor. I invest in bonds, equities, commodities, stock, you name it. I understand - as a simple investor - that my investments may go bad. I understand that bonds or stock I bought may go 20% up, may go 20% down, or may go all the way down to zero. I understand that. I accept that risk. So, if I buy Greek debt (bonds) in 2000-2007 I understand there is a risk there. They may go to zero. Like Russian bonds did in 1997. Like debt of Iceland in 2008. Like debt of over 5,000 other countries in the history of the world that went bankrupt. But Greece in 2008? Oh Nein! It can't go bankrupt! It needs to repay German banksters!!! That's how EU works. And the reason why neo-nazis are at 22% in the polls in Greece now? Because they said they would cancel the so-called debt in Greece with a stroke of a pen. As it should have been done long time ago. German, Greek, or other tax payers shouldn't be hold hostage to incompetence of German banksters who can't do their job of risk assessment properly. What the fuck is it? Socialism for German banksters and capitalism for everybody else? Is that how your EU works?? And if taxes aren't enough for bankster bonus we will steal your bank deposit too! Yep, that's how EU works! Just fucking awesome!
>That still doesn't change a thing to the fact that the EU process has brought peace to half a billion people for the first time since never, and with peace has come prosperity for most (sadly not all though).
Ever heard of NATO? You really think that Putin's Red Army would give a fuck about you and your stupid EU if the US Army and NATO weren't stationed on this continent? Dude, NATO is the only reason for peace in Europe since 1945. The Yugoslavia war in 1990s hasn't been stopped by EU Marxists too. It's been stopped by NATO. Next thing I hear from you probably will be that we'll have a sunrise tomorrow thanks to the EU. The EU did something else recently. Germans hate Greeks, Greeks hate Germans. Division between Northern and Southern Europe. That's EU at works!
> The current Europe is however still better for its people than any Europe in history, despite its many flaws.
Right, like paying taxes to make sure German banksters get their bonus. Like over 60% unemployment rate for young in Spain, Portugal and Greece. Like nationalism and neo-nazis raising their heads all over Europe now in reaction to the EU craziness. Great Job! Just congratulate yourself!
> I know europe-bashing is popular in many regions in europe right now because things are bad and it's an easy scape-goat for inept or incapable national governments and an easy target for jingoistic parties hoping to channel frustration and fear into votes ('populism'), but no rational analysis can say that europe is the cause of the current economic woes, except perhaps for the greeks. I see only two paths out of this situation: (1) less EU, nationalism and protectionism, and (2) more EU, moving democracy up to the EU level by giving true power to the EU parliament. The first path takes us back to the europe that was, a continent rife with war and poverty. I'll take option 2 thank you very much. Btw, marxism, really? You're trolling, right?
And what about third way? Trust democracy. Don't ignore people's vote. Sounds good? EU is Anti-Democratic. They have proven it again, and again, and again. They keep ignoring democratic vote, if they don't like it. And they - Barroso, Van Rumpoy - who voted these clowns in? You? Me? Who? What democracy are you talking about? Democracy where we will vote till we say 'yes'? Fuck that!!!
90% of all USD in circulation isn't even in the US borders. Isn't used for the needs of the US industry/economy. Thanks to this the FED can print, print, print into the oblivion, getting back just 10% of inflation it created, while the world gets the 90%. Ever heard the famous: “The dollar is our currency, but your problem” by John Connally, President Nixon’s Treasury Secretary, to a delegation of Europeans worried about exchange rate fluctuations?
Now the ponzie scheme grew (as they always have to) so it is not only Europeans, but also Arabs and Asians, but the days of the USD debt ponzie scheme are counted. There are just these many losers on the planet to buy into it.
Now, just imagine these additional USD coming from all over the world to the US. Hyperinflation?
And just a single simple event could cause that: Chinese tying their Yuan to gold. Who on Earth will want your t-bill backed by the most indebted government on the planet, when they can get it backed by gold and the biggest creditor government in the world?
>Which would be bad for entities with incomes or assets denominated in US dollars, but good for entities with debts denominated in US dollars, and neutral for entities whose income was dependent, say, on US output.
Right. Your debt would vanish. I think that's the only good thing from the hyper inflationary perspective. The debt is USD denominated, so yes, it makes sense. Again, from China perspective, a little price to pay to have world reserve currency instead of the US having it.
>This is neither true nor meaningful; as long as the debt can be serviced, it doesn't actually need to be repaid (and could, in fact, grow in absolute terms over time without limit without harm so long as output was growing apace.)
If we use the official government formula of calculating inflation from Ronald Reagan years we are at 10% today. We've been for at least 3 years now. And what is the return on the t-bill? Again, it might be true, that at least you know you'll be repaid even if it means you'll loose. But t-bills are in fact in a bubble territory now. What will you do when interest rates rise? If interest rates are at 7% we're talking about more than 50% of tax revenue going just to service the debt. Just to pay the premium. Over 50% of the tax revenue! And what if we have to have it at the levels from the beginning of 1980s? At 18% ? We won't even be able to service it. And in 1980s most of the debt was hold by the Americans. So the money was going back to the US economy. Currently most of the debt is held by foreigners. Can you imagine the impossibility of a political situation were over 50% of the tax revenue goes to foreigners in the middle of a financial crisis? And it is just at 7% interest rates. The FED effectively can't rise the rates. There is no way they can do it. You think this is acceptable like forever for t-bills holders?
USSR bankruptcy caused plenty of revolutions in the whole region.
People are calm and don't care - exactly like the article implies - till there are three missing meals. Hungry stomach makes them go to the streets and revolt. Not another news about the Government going crazy.
Like UK -- it has declined from an Empire Status, but did not collapse. I agree - the same with Roman Empire.
The solution is bankruptcy, to be able to start over from scratch.
I'd rather draw parallel to Ancient Rome and its citizens. As long as there were "Games" in town and bread for free nobody cared. Once the Rome was on fire they woke up. For some time.
The situation is hopeless. The only solution is when US runs out of money. Goes bankrupt. Which is quite possible. Once USD isn't the world currency, the country defaults. And then there is no money for wars, no money for swat teams in every little town, no money for surveillance. Those things will still be there but on much lesser scale.
The US has currently the biggest debt of any empire in the history of the world. Impossible to repay. Once the world currency status moves from USD to Yuan, the Government will try to use all that military/police power to "maintain order", the thing is the policemen and soldiers won't have money, there will be no gas even for military, etc. Exactly like USSR when it collapsed -- bankrupted by all the wars and stupid policies.
Obviously, you pay for the amount of eye-balls seeing that ad. Changing the color may result in thousands of people more seeing the ad. The cost is in the know-how to get these thousands of eye-balls to see your content. Not for the color.
Without a platform as hugely popular as 37-signals the programmer could change colors all day long on his 'localhost:3000' and that wouldn't be worth $800. That would be worth $0.0.
The premise of the article is completely false.
Boys are usually more interested in computers. Males are more inclined to manipulate things (manipulate like in play, try to understand how they work, etc.) and relations that have to do with things. Females are more inclined to manipulate people (manipulate like in play, try to understand how they work, etc) and relations that have to do with people. And no, I don't have a scientific research to "prove" that. It's an observation that derives from common sense.
Ever noticed how women enjoy watching soap operas, but don't give a damn about a football game? Ever notice how men enjoy watching football game, but don't give a damn about a soap opera?
Because what men see in a football game that women don't is: strategy, tactics, manipulations, doing everything to win the game. Females don't see that there. They just see a bunch of brutes running around trying to get hold of a some stupid ball.
But women can definitely appreciate a soap opera. Because there they will see: strategy, tactics, manipulations, doing everything to win the game. Males don't see it there. Because this is not about things. It's about people and their relations. They are blind to that as females are blind to see interactions among objects. Males just see there a bunch of crazy people dramatizing.
Now, to expect this little girl not to play with dolls to mimic social interactions but to play with objects is BS. And pure Politicall Correctness. And that's a threat. I don't need my daughter to waste her life trying to compete in a game where males have natural advantage in their DNA. I'd rather have her spend her time analyzing people. Not objects.
That's all common sense dude. I'm threatened by you spreading enemy propaganda in my country. What about that? Go and teach that in Russia. Mess up their country. Not our own.
Journalists are there to report. These guys are in trouble because they forgot about it what their jobs are all about.
And Greenspan would still call it a "bubble"
When he is personally responsible for creating dot-com bubble and the housing bubble. Who would ever listen to this clown anyway?
Socialists "logic" never stops entertaining me.
Secondly, if you take money from the rich who would invest it to someone who will just spend it -- how this economically makes any sense is beyond me. We spent too much - that's how we got into the crisis. Now it is time to save & invest. Not to destroy savings and investments.
And thirdly, there are no poor in Switzerland, period. There might be some lazy young people who don't like to work and if their numbers are high enough and their parents are sympathetic to them, you are dealing with big group that you want to please before elections. So trying to make it economically sound (when it isn't!) is just pure propaganda for naive do-gooders.
Ever heard of inflation? If you give basic income to everyone what happens to the prices of everything? So the ROI on this is extremely limited and the price inflation will kill any benefit.
But still for some people rising prices with real unemployment at 15% is a good thing!
