LeicesterCity··on Any recommended crash course on Maths?
Thank you for the response. Would reading Calculus to Epps then to some linear algebra & algorithms be most appropriate in a linear progression? Or would I be able to read some books concurrently?
LeicesterCity··on Any recommended crash course on Maths?
Do you have a math reading list for an aspiring self-taught software engineer (assume I have no math background -- took calculus many years ago)? I was thinking of going from studying Calculus, then a book on proofs, then discrete math, then algorithms, maybe linear algebra too?

I should have mentioned that in my post. I have a dual-core i7 model.

Genuinely curious, how would learning linear algebra help future medical doctors?
LeicesterCity··on Advice
At ages 10-20 one has the time to go deep into many different subjects, would that be viable for someone late into the game (20-30s)? Or would they have to narrow the number of subjects they explore?
LeicesterCity··on Andrew Wiles: what does it feel like to do maths?
This makes me wish I became a mathematician. Anyone know of modern day self-taught mathematicians that contributed to research? I'd like to learn maths on my own, but if there is no possibility of research contribution, then I guess my time would be better spent with something else.
LeicesterCity··on Ask HN: What should I learn as my first programming language?
Why mobile over websites? Just curious, because I'm also a newcomer that is debating web vs. mobile.

I'm a recent Biology undergrad. Do you have any advice for learning Comp Bio/Bioinformatics? Can it be self-taught, or does one need a PhD?
LeicesterCity··on Ask HN: When you feel stuck in life
I watched about half of the first lecture, very interesting. What insights can one draw from these series of lectures? Depending on the insights, I'm trying to see if the time invested is personally worthwhile.
LeicesterCity··on Mental Models I Find Repeatedly Useful
Could someone give me a real example of somebody using mental models in a real world application? I just find the idea of learning and studying mental models to be distracting and confusing. Pardon my ignorance.
LeicesterCity··on Alan Kay has agreed to do an AMA today
Hi Alan,

Previously you've mentioned the "Oxbridge approach" to reading, whereby--if my recollection is correct--you take four topics and delve into them as much as possible. Could you elaborate on this approach (I've searched the internet, couldn't find anything)? And do you think this structured approach has more benefits than, say, a non-structured approach of reading whatever of interest?

Thanks for your time and generosity, Alan!

LeicesterCity··on Ask HN: Novice looking for an overview of different areas of programming
How would I go about the learning path. Would it be something along the lines of: 1) Learn programming language X, 2) Learn Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra, Probablity & Statistics, 3) Learn machine learning?
