Layke1123··on A List of Hacker News's Undocumented Features and Behaviors (2018-20)
Hours? It was like 6 or 7 emails. How many hours does it take you to write a 5 or 6 sentence email?

Don't be upset people are rightly criticizing Hacker News.

Layke1123··on A List of Hacker News's Undocumented Features and Behaviors (2018-20)
I have noticed a lot of the downvotong of things critical of YCombinator and it's bias against topics it doesn't like. I even have emails where the moderator or employee refuses to acknowledge or explain why I was downvoted and not others. It was eye opening that experience and reading this list doesn't surprise me. Everyone has an agenda.
Layke1123··on Why do so many companies incorporate in Delaware?
Whataboutism? Are you saying if they do it, it makes it ok for us to do it? What's the difference then?
Layke1123··on Surgeons Perform First Human Tracheal Transplant Surgery
Why is my first thought I wonder how much that costs and not instantly wanting a potentially life saving or quality improvement?
Layke1123··on Why do so many companies incorporate in Delaware?
Without even reading, I'm going to assume it had to do with capitalists dodging taxes. Let's find out how surprised I'm going to be. /s
Layke1123··on Rates of Parkinson’s disease are exploding. A common chemical may be to blame
Ok people not wanting to have kids because of a family history of Parkinson's disease.
Layke1123··on Generational changes pressure CEOs to take up political activism
Great, what else you got? A majority of Americans support abortion. Only a minority yell loudly about it.
Layke1123··on Generational changes pressure CEOs to take up political activism
That is entirely different from the fabrication of stories. There is a reason CNN is different from say the Enquirer.

As for the pro-life marches, its telling the something like Fox News doesn't even cover them huh there bub? Your bias showing through?

Layke1123··on Rates of Parkinson’s disease are exploding. A common chemical may be to blame
Genetic sequencing. We will eliminate the embryos we don't want.
Layke1123··on U.S. adds Chinese supercomputing entities to economic blacklist
See the other replies about mass incarceration based on skin color. At least China is figuring terrorism without dropping bombs on people they don't like.
Layke1123··on U.S. adds Chinese supercomputing entities to economic blacklist
Join me on the downvote train. Where Hacker News explicitly likes to downvote us without any accountability. I suspect this is why Reddit is a much more diverse group of people than here.
Layke1123··on Generational changes pressure CEOs to take up political activism
This is how the narrative moves. A few CEOs take a stand, the media jumps on it, people read it, other CEOs see people reading it, jump on board, and that's how it flourishes. The media didn't create it, it only amplified it. The media only ever amplifies what it finds. It doesn't manufacture it.
Layke1123··on Rates of Parkinson’s disease are exploding. A common chemical may be to blame
That or it will be a natural form of selection for old age, increasing human longevity at the expense of temporary population reduction. Let's hope artificial gene therapy is within our lifetimes or hope we drew the golden ticket.
Layke1123··on I refused to become an FBI informant, the government put me on the no fly list
The amount of people shit talking the US government and the FBI while simultaneously speaking gloriously about the economic engine that powers it is comical at best, hypocritical at worst.
Layke1123··on Ask HN: What is the political bias on Hacker News?
I agree with the general sentiment, but I'm suspicious of moderators and who runs the site to. I think I've seen an extreme bias against anything other than neoliberal capitalism for the most part.
Layke1123··on Employees are happier when led by people with deep expertise (2016)
Apparently actual CEOs can't either judging by the number of them that get golden parachutes for running a business into the ground.
Layke1123··on Employees are happier when led by people with deep expertise (2016)
Hahahahahaha, owned in such a concise way. To the moon!
Layke1123··on Employees are happier when led by people with deep expertise (2016)
I disagree.

If you are a leader in a field, and you have forgotten or no longer can do the work at the very lowest levels (for example, even something simply like mopping), you have lost an expertise that made you valuable in the first place.

Layke1123··on Employees are happier when led by people with deep expertise (2016)
This comment should be upvoted to the moon. Such a VALUABLE idea.
Layke1123··on Free Software: An idea whose time has passed?
Ahh I replied to the wrong thread. I meant to reply to the parent thread but the point still stands imo.
Layke1123··on Free Software: An idea whose time has passed?
I dare one person to actually articulate their response if they downvoted.
Layke1123··on Liberty’s Discontents: The contested history of freedom
Cowards who downvote without articulating a response. Gotta love it.
Layke1123··on Free Software: An idea whose time has passed?
Why do I need to quote it? It's right above.
Layke1123··on Free Software: An idea whose time has passed?
Wait you support FOSS because of education? I wonder how you feel about college education and student debt then...
Layke1123··on What is consciousness? Some new perspectives from our physics project
To your first 4 paragraphs, you jump around alot to many different points. But I think I can best concisely illustrate that you and I are not working with the same basic semantics. For instance, I have definitely grown plants with simulated water in a Zelda game.

I think when you here computation, you should learn more about quantum mechanics and how systems are describe in terms of discrete pieces of information. As it is, we can implant electrodes in human brains and send artificial signals to them already and people begin to "see" things that are not there.

How does saying thinking is just a form of computation taking it away from brains? Why does thinking have to be something different from just running probability calculations given the current input and the likely next step including for a given output we can take upon given "input"? It seems that for you that the possibility is entirely out of the realm of possibility. It's not that thinking can't be explained by computation, it's that is must NOT be explained by computation.

Layke1123··on Liberty’s Discontents: The contested history of freedom
This assumes that the best road is in the middle in modern parlance of English in America, I.E. the "left" versus the "right".

If you look at other nation's, this dichotomy breaks down and you see people who would call America's left far right. So when you talk about strong bias to the left or right, know that you have your own bias you are ignoring.

Layke1123··on What is consciousness? Some new perspectives from our physics project
Who says? We used to could.not measure light precisely, only vague notions of color. Maybe we are just in a similar state.
Layke1123··on What is consciousness? Some new perspectives from our physics project
How much are you willing to bet that consciousness is not a computation? What else could it be? If we don't live in a world organized by physics and causality, then it would extremely unlikely life could even emerge altogether. The fact that the world is ultimately predictable makes it more likely we emerge, not less.
Layke1123··on What is consciousness? Some new perspectives from our physics project
This is probably true. There are things definitely less conscious than us. It'll be interesting if it is possible for us to comprehend higher consciousness or if its like a never ending race to the top. Creatures so intelligent they are just beyond our comprehension.
Layke1123··on U.S. Government Finally Gets Serious About IoT Security
