LanzVonL··on FTC bans X-Mode from selling phone location data, and orders firm to delete data
I'm old enough that I wasn't raised from birth with a digital dog collar.
LanzVonL··on Gmail and Yahoo’s 2024 inbox protections and what they mean for email programs
That's so weird considering those two domains are the source of ALMOST all the spam I've seen over the last couple decades.
LanzVonL··on FTC bans X-Mode from selling phone location data, and orders firm to delete data
They are free to leave a message, and I'll get back at my leisure.
LanzVonL··on I quit my job to work full time on my open source project
I think it's great to see more women moving into full time open source careers. We don't have many!
LanzVonL··on New Spin on a Revolving Door: Pentagon Officials Turned Venture Capitalists
How does anybody compete when the government insiders merge with the corporations? This is China tier.
LanzVonL··on Qualcomm chip vulnerability enables remote attack by voice call
This is bizarrely suspicious. Another deep side-channel planted by a large, nation-state grade actor?
LanzVonL··on Show HN: Tool to calculate how much milk is needed to make an amount of cheese
I'd like to try it but it's blocked in my region.
LanzVonL··on FTC bans X-Mode from selling phone location data, and orders firm to delete data
I just engage the hardware modem kill switch on my Librem 5 when I'm not making a call. You all don't seriously carry around GovCorp beacon pods which are "always on" do you?
LanzVonL··on OpenBSD KDE Plasma Desktop
Nobody maintains X. Volunteers fix it, companies add drivers. Freedesktop is defrauding their donors, by claiming to "maintain and extend X" and failing to do so.

Other people will pick up the slack once the weirdos at Freedesktop formally announce they're finished.

LanzVonL··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
Of course. And Epstein, Maxwell, you name it.

The US government is about power and influence, not chains of command and technical appointments and elections. You should have learned this by now.

LanzVonL··on OpenBSD KDE Plasma Desktop
They don't have the front holes to do it.
LanzVonL··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
Big pharma is the government.
LanzVonL··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
It's not kind to say, but one must wonder if after you kill people, rip their bodies asunder, send them into the afterlife... if PTSD doesn't have a spiritual or karmic purpose. We're not meant to be doing this to each other.
LanzVonL··on SF streets were clean for APEC, here's what Tenderloin and SoMa look like now
Happened in Baltimore, Detroit, formerly nice places in Minneapolis, Chicago, New Orleans...

It's not "if" but "when."

LanzVonL··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
This has been known for decades, since before most of us here were born. My question is, when do we lynch big pharma for suppressing it?
LanzVonL··on Apple announces when the Vision Pro will go on sale
Yeah but instead it'll just be used to show ads and track you, and photograph and video and track everybody else. I already find it offensive enough that most people wander around with a fully enabled GovCorp surveillance pod recording everything all the time. Last thing I want is some dweeb going through my 20 year old Reddit posts when he glances at me, my face being analyzed, current outfit and / accessories fed into my ad profile, etc.

We have to have a conversation about this as a species, it's already gone way too far.

LanzVonL··on Apple announces when the Vision Pro will go on sale
It peaked years ago. No real application, people are losing interest. Apple had better have some really good applications ready for this thing.
LanzVonL··on SF streets were clean for APEC, here's what Tenderloin and SoMa look like now
Is this true though?
LanzVonL··on SF streets were clean for APEC, here's what Tenderloin and SoMa look like now
>get high paying job

>spend all your money on housing and property taxes and etc.

LanzVonL··on Apple announces when the Vision Pro will go on sale
Nobody's going to buy this garbage. VR / AR / MR flopped.
LanzVonL··on Discovery of loose bolts threatens wider 737 Max crisis for Boeing
If it's Boeing, I'm not going.
LanzVonL··on SF streets were clean for APEC, here's what Tenderloin and SoMa look like now
Why do people still live in big, liberal cities? They're clearly trying to drive people out. Just sell up before your property values tank and move somewhere nice. Learn to entertain yourself, cook, etc. and pretty soon you won't need the amenities.

X isn't going bye-bye. Heck the current "maintainers," who are trying to kill it, don't even do anything but merge code given to them by other people.

You'll never win. At best you can kill it from Red Shat. I find the snarky, hubristic nature of Wayland boosters to be insufferable. Whole thing's a huge dumpster fire too.

LanzVonL··on OpenBSD KDE Plasma Desktop
People have it working OK but it'll never be part of the base system.
LanzVonL··on The journey of the Roman gladius and other swords
Because it quite resembles the khopesh, from ancient Egypt. And the word is nearly the same too.
LanzVonL··on Wave Terminal: A Modern New Terminal That You'll Love If You Hate Command Line
No telemetry is anonymous, these days it's trivial to associate an IP with any number of personally identifying factors. All you need is partners.
LanzVonL··on The Year Food-Delivery Prices Went Insane
Food delivery is a super-premium service for the well heeled, always has been.
LanzVonL··on 2024-01-01 Emacs News
I find if pressed, most people can't come up with anything excepting that Windows, Mac OS, and the various window managers all chose poorly when it comes to cut / copy / paste and the fact that emacs uses C-w, M-w,and C-y instead is just too mind blowing for them to comprehend.
LanzVonL··on 2024-01-01 Emacs News
If you're not brain damaged from vi use, there is really no problem with the default settings for emacs. Copy-paste using different keys? Well, that's Mac and Windows brain damage, emacs was there first with yank and kill.

Interesting to note that the old Nepalese word for the Kukri is Kepis.
