In 2013, a tanker ship hit the Bay Bridge (Oakland <--> SF) but didn't do much damage. We have a new bridge there now because that one was also damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake.

When the Golden Gate needs replacement, the Marin NIMBY's that didn't extend BART to the north bay are going to be sad (more likely, their children will be).

The desire of people to drive (and park) their personal automobiles everywhere has killed cities. Density is forced to be lower.

I saw the space shuttle land once. From my perspective, it seemed to drop like a rock (fast!) and then as it got closer to the ground, it started "flying". I'd never seen anything like it.

I lived in the UK when there was a total eclipse there. BA flew a Concorde (at speed!) to chase the shadow for as long as possible. It was still not that long ~30 minutes or so? and the windows were tiny and thick, so I heard it was not that grand. Of course, those on the ground had the typical cloudy weather. Where I was it was 98%, which was still "dusk". It was still neat!

I did this before. I ran a cron job once a day that counted the number of active entries in a particular file. It was neat to see the number bump up after an acquisition or drop after a layoff. It was neat to see the overall growth of the company I worked for.

I eventually decided that someone _might_ decide that, although freely available, in aggregate, this material could be _sensitive_. I stopped doing it. I deleted years of interesting data...
