Hello. I make music. Currently: exploring Linux music production through BitWig.

Supporters get access to Fox Focus: energetic focus music for people who don't vibe with what people usually call focus music. It's energetic, shifting, but still chill enough to get out of the way.

Kye··on Music Theory for Programmers
Music theory is a tool for analyzing music and, optionally, helping make it. Treating analysis and composition as inverse operations is going to mislead you. There are useful analyses in music theory that would be completely alien to the person whose work it's based on.
Kye··on ChatGPT and Codex Is Down
Don't most of those use AWS?
Kye··on Understanding ChatGPT Work
>> "ChatGPT Chat gets a fresh filesystem for each chat session. These cannot be accessed from any other session."

That's what the Library is for. You can use GitHub to keep it outside ChatGPT. GitHub also provides a Chat-based option for sites.

Kye··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
OpenRouter->Stripe (~$7B)

Hugging Face->Nvidia ($13B)

Keep an eye on Exa. With local models and niche harnesses proliferating, they're going to need a way to search without everyone having to run their own index.

Google is an obvious buyer if they could get it past regulators. A Doubleclick-level addition of the agentic stuff they're bad at to the indexing they're good at.

Nvidia is the obvious less conflicted #2

Secret third option: Cloudflare. They're already the glue for so much of this stuff.

Kye··on Graze Joins Flipboard
On the one hand, SV-speak has trained me to read acquisitions as an end of good stuff. On the other, if this ATProto experiment really is something different, we need to be willing to consider that old patterns don't hold and expect something better.

I like the optimistic track.

Kye··on Dolly Parton has died
Dolly Parton seemed nice on that episode of The Orville.
Kye··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
It's nice when using large sample libraries so you can stream them off the drive without as much caching in memory. Local LLM workflows probably also benefit from being able to run models too big for RAM off the drive.
Kye··on GPT-5.6 Sol Pricing Cut by 50%
Sol has held stuff for a while to do the same sort of hazard checks I assume Fable is doing, but it always releases them. I think that's the better way to handle it rather than preventing me from seeing how far I can get generating schematics to use in Minecraft. Currently: a mostly normal voxel house.
Kye··on A spectre is haunting Unicode
OCR was slow and unreliable and was for a very long time.
Kye··on Hello, me. It's been a while
I had to make my own focus music. What most other people call focus music puts me to sleep.
Kye··on Hunter-gatherers introduced fish to a mountain lake 7000 years ago
Humans were shaping their environments to produce food long before they plowed fields. Hunter-gatherers didn't just hunt and gather willy-nilly, picking up whatever they found, oblivious to how it got there.
Kye··on Orion Browser by Kagi
That was a decade after anything I would think of as early browsers, much less very early browsers.
Kye··on Claude Fable produced a counterexample to the Jacobian Conjecture

Kye··on Orion Browser by Kagi
I don't remember that, though I only started with early Netscape. Do you have more detail?
Kye··on OpenAI reduces Codex Model Context Size from 372k to 272k
This would have been a great opportunity to suggest one.
Kye··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
There was no shortage of names like that. A lot of them rebranded later. Remember twttr?
Kye··on Jurassic Park computers in excruciating detail
Do you think it's coincidence the chip for Skynet looks so much like the Connection Machine?

Kye··on AI is slowing down
He also does PR for AI companies and only really acknowledges this in interviews. As far as I know he never discloses it in his rants.
Kye··on Anthropic, please ship an official Claude Desktop for Linux
It's been so long I have no idea what the karma thresholds are so this is possible.
Kye··on Anthropic, please ship an official Claude Desktop for Linux
For future reference: you can edit posts for up to 2 hours.
Kye··on Astronauts told to return to ISS after sheltering over air leak repairs
That's where farts come from.
Kye··on Astronauts told to return to ISS after sheltering over air leak repairs
It's an almost 30 year old nearly 500 ton structure subjected to radiation, bombardment by starstuff and debris, the stresses of docking and undocking, of boosts, and of constant heating and cooling as it passes in and out of the sun. Getting a clear picture of the comings and going of gasses is probably not easy.
Kye··on Astronauts told to return to ISS after sheltering over air leak repairs
I remember reading about the ISS in the May 1998 issue of Popular Science, a full issue about the station. They were getting ready to launch the first module. Every time bad news happens, I think about this part (from a PDF I hang on to):

>> "SOMEDAY, THE international Space Station will descend, but if you're frightened at the prospect of a million-pound hunk of metal falling out of the sky, take heart. NASA does have a plan to decommission the space station eventually without creating havoc. The European Space Agency is planning to build three expendable space vehicles by 2003: two of them will ferry propellant, the other will force the station to land in a designated area. Called an automated transfer vehicle (ATV), the craft will be unmanned, similar to the Russian Progress resupply vehicle but larger, with enough thrust to nudge the entire station down in a single piece-a cheaper and safer alternative to hauling pieces of the station down in multiple trips. Roughly 90 percent of the station will be cinder by the time it reaches Earth's atmosphere; a Pacific splashdown is the plan.-Gunfan Sinha"

Kye··on Ableton Extensions SDK
Bitwig was started by former Ableton people.
Kye··on Amazon Has Axed Its New Stargate Series
I think we live in very different media environments. I have no idea what Kill Tony is, have always thought SNL and most late night was dull, and have a steady stream of good stand-up comedians who aren't any sort of ist or phobic in my timelines.

And I have no idea when

>> "Unapologetically promiscuous leading men, women on screen purely as sex props and not in some two bit low production value shoot em up. I mean high art like countless examples in the recent past."

would have been the norm. Even the worst of the Hays Code era had plenty of strong leading women. Before that, tons of lecherous women, queer women, etc.

Kye··on Ableton Extensions SDK
You could already use Node through M4L. I'm not clear on what this adds that wasn't already possible.
Kye··on Amazon Has Axed Its New Stargate Series
I can only match your level of specificity. What do you mean? You gestured vaguely in the direction of something. What do you consider "made for men" that isn't represented now?
Kye··on Amazon Has Axed Its New Stargate Series
That's such a bleak view of men. I think they're more open to variety in their media than you give them credit for.
Kye··on Meta workers can opt out of being tracked at work up to 30 min
In 1984, high ranking members of the party could turn off their telescreens for 30 minutes without suspicion.
Kye··on Amazon Has Axed Its New Stargate Series
State, don't insinuate.
