Doesn't sound easy to me if you need to get more people to care than they do now.
Just search 'kiwi farms' on Twitter.

If it was easy, I wouldn't expect them to still be online on TOR after all this time.

For credit cards, that's definately a thing. But, most people use debit cards that do not offer protections.
Unfortunately, the lack of self policing with the group has lead to this result.
I wasn't aware that iTunes offered downloads via a website back then, because iTunes certainly does not run on the OS which the people that I'm thinking of used at the time (and still doesn't).
I can't think of any that stopped honestly or even owned an Apple product. Apple products are expensive.
Honestly, communities should just make their own IRC servers, they're trivial in resources to run and manage, there is no need for Libera or Freenode.
It is representive because it is a democracy. This sort of thinking you described is what leads to people skirting on their responsibilities.
I think it's easy to justify a need for it. For example, insufficient information to address wider problems and understand usability in the software. Done, need justified.

> "Telemetry" increases the attack surface of a fucking free audio editor for no reason at all.
I just gave you a reason. You may not like it, but it is a reason and it is a valid reason.
> "But we have to spy on users or we won't be able to fix bugs!" is the laziest thing I've ever heard
You even acknowledge that it is a reason, you may not like it, but it is a reason.
> The real reason to collect this info is so you can start doing fun things with it, like targeted advertising.
Yes, let's make targetted advertising based on the session time period, audition crashes, usage of effects, sound generators, analysis tools, file formats along with OS and Audacity versions???
What I thought was even more interesting was that racism was never a charge raised in the George Floyd case yet it was one parroted by many individuals as completely 'obvious' guilt in.
The discussion that happens outside of these circles seems to be entirely different approach too and I would dare not even mention facts like this among work colleagues, even though he is plainly guilty of other charges as it does not fit the narrative they hold.
I mean, it was filmed in Scotland to begin with...
