Klwohu··on Schoonschip – Unique residential area: floating, sustainable, circular
Looks pretty impractical, plus there's gonna be a LOT of garbage that winds up in the water.
Klwohu··on SBCL 2.1.3 Released
clisp has fewer features and is more stable, making it useful for certain applications
Klwohu··on Tesla hacker unveils what the Model 3/Y cabin camera can see
I probably won't be getting any of the electric vehicles out there because they're all a privacy nightmare.
Klwohu··on SBCL 2.1.3 Released
SBCL's great. So is CLISP. GNU has the best Lisp going in 2021.
Klwohu··on Google will stop using Oracle’s finance software and adopt SAP instead
Joking, right? Google's average tenure is like 18 months, it's doubtful that anybody even understands 90% of their products any more.
Klwohu··on SCO Linux FUD returns from the dead
This is actually kind of great. Now that Linux is a hyper-corporate big name OS with everybody from Huawei to MS being Platinum Level Foundation Members, I'm ready for an excellent legal fight.
Klwohu··on Diamond Batteries Are Forever
I got three of those pop ups which like fade in, a cookie OK’ing footer, holy COW that’s a horrible awful web site.
Klwohu··on Linux distros without systemd (2019)
System D hasn’t matured. Nobody even knows when it’ll be finished or what other features it will subsume.

It’s an OS, and that’s fine. But it’s not an OS which I like or need, and it’s way too buggy and unreliable to be used even as a part of systemd/Linux/GNU.

Klwohu··on 2I/Borisov, the First Interstellar Comet to Have Visited Our Solar System
It irritates me to read claims like this. Our solar system is billions of years old. How could we possibly know if 2I/Borisov is the very, very absolute first interstellar comet to have visited our solar system?

Lazy stupid science press.

Klwohu··on A joyless trudge? No, thanks
Why does HN allow Guardian submissions at all? What’s next, links to 4chan threads?
Klwohu··on Cryptocurrency Miners Are Reportedly Ruining the Laptop Market, Too
How is anybody ruining a market? If you want goods you compete in the market. If a miner is more motivated than Rusty the Rustacean to pay up for a laptop, that’s the end of the story.
Klwohu··on How America’s surveillance networks helped the FBI catch the Capitol mob
Pervasive unconstitutional police state... good?
Klwohu··on BBC: The cost of speaking up against China (Uyghurs)
Wow somebody came in and downvoted EVERYBODY in this thread. Five cent army, assemble!
Klwohu··on Weird Twitter army of Amazon drones cheerfully defending warehouse work (2018)
Let's be careful, "Weird Twitter" is a CIA project and while Bezos indeed has a cozy relationship with the CIA, Twitter botnets are a different issue.
Klwohu··on How to Manage a Dark Ages Estate
Historians use the term frequently.
Klwohu··on Ubiquiti starts serving ads in their management interface
The person with the server.
Klwohu··on Google calls it quits with VR, but
New technique to get people to click the
Klwohu··on There's Something Fishy About Amazon's Anti-Union Twitter Army
Really what's the problem here? Twitter's at least half bots, IMHO more like 90%, who even pays attention to the Twitter hordes anyway these days?
Klwohu··on Google’s top security teams unilaterally shut down a counterterrorism operation
So was it Israel?
Klwohu··on Emacs 27.2
Isn't that also just an elpa / melpa package though?
Klwohu··on Preliminary board statement on FSF governance
So no more kicking people out because of social media screeching?
Klwohu··on FBI Warns That Deepfakes Will Be Used Increasingly in Foreign Influence Ops
My guess is, even official media and government organizations will take advantage of deepfakes if they think it will increase their profits, or penetration of their messaging. A year ago, the government and media teamed up to lie to the public and claim masks weren't effective, "for our own good" so medical people could obtain masks without economic competition from the plebian hordes.

Nobody apologized and it seems the public didn't care either. So we can conclude that truthful information isn't always desirable, especially when it comes to feeding the masses. Anybody with a brain already realizes this and understands that deepfakes can and will be used on the general public, "for our own good."

Klwohu··on Amazon Keeps Getting Sued for Paying Drivers Less Than Minimum Wage
When I read a story like this about some huge company "getting sued" I have to laugh. Does anybody think that Amazon and their killer attack attorneys are scared of small time civil suits? Legislators won't do anything to harm Amazon and the odd minor fine is just part of the ongoing expense of running a monopoly.
Klwohu··on Nzyme v1.0.0: Free and Open WiFi Defense System
I'm really glad this project exists. Thanks, dev!
Klwohu··on Iconic L.A. bookshop is housed in an abandoned bank
What's up with Atlas Obscura? I see several posts a day here, is it a YC-backed blog? Also I don't think the building was abandoned, but it was a bank.
Klwohu··on Safari is now probably the influential wild card browser for user privacy
Some "features" are harmful to the users and only exist for the convenience of Google and other data mining and spying companies.
Klwohu··on Grumpy Cat NFT sold for nearly $80K
Money laundering is getting ever more obscure.
Klwohu··on Why in the world would you own bonds?
That's some neat blablabla but his argument is mathematical while yours is purely emotional.
Klwohu··on Launch HN: Mezli (YC W21) – Robotic restaurants that serve healthy fast food
This is why I typically avoid eating fast or prepared food. One has no idea how many times the ingredients or dish have contacted harmful plastics, or which plastics they have contacted, or at what heat level the contact was sustained at, or for how long.
Klwohu··on Emacs-ng: Emacs with Deno runtime and TypeScript
I don't like this one bit. Good luck to the author and team, but I despise attempts to bring emacs "into the future."
