Kelteseth··on Apple Appeals EU's March Ruling on 'Interoperability' Requirements Under the DMA
It is always funny to me when Americans cry about European laws (again and again). Go EU!

> I still think that law was unnecessary — the market forces had worked, and the whole world had either already moved (like iPads did starting in 2018) or was on the cusp of moving to USB-C (like iPhones).

I don't think this is true. We still have these awful barrel plug charger if you want to buy a sub 500 euro laptop. With the law mandating USB-C for laptops in 2026.

Kelteseth··on Claude has learned how to jailbreak Cursor
It's like we _want_ to end like Terminator (/s?)
Kelteseth··on Gitlab 18.0
We downgraded our premium subscription to to the free version on our self hosted server. It feels like only features Gitlab adds are some enterprise things like compliance stuff.

Kelteseth··on Taming the UB Monsters in C++
> too late to the party

And even if this would all be available today, you would need to wait 10 years for all third party libraries to catch up. Just look at the current rate of c++ version adoption. Many projects just migrated to c++17 this year, and that version is 8 years old by now...

Edit: Just used PCL that got updated from c++14 to 17, or look at https://vfxplatform.com/ where everything is c++17, and the list goes on....

Kelteseth··on The EU is betraying users, weakening their privacy for politics
Why is it that people who are not even affected by this cry the loudest? I, an EU citizen, love that we are standing up to the big corporations like this. GO EU!
Kelteseth··on Elon Musk's Starlink Expands Across White House Complex
> But instead of being physically placed at the White House, the Starlink system is now said to be routed through a White House data center, with existing fiber cables, miles from the complex.

This screams to me that it was only done, so the Kremlin has direct connection to the White House.

> White House officials said the installation was an effort to increase internet availability at the complex. They said that some areas of the property could not get cell service and that the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure was overtaxed.

I don't buy it.

Kelteseth··on Mozilla's Response to Proposed Remedies in U.S. vs. Google LLC
As much as I love Firefox, the only thing I can read here is: We have failed to diversify, and we would really like our yearly $400 million to pay our CEO
Kelteseth··on Tesla sales dropped 60% in Germany
For me, it really was the final straw. I won't be getting another Tesla after my leasing contract ends in 3 years.
Kelteseth··on Tesla sales dropped 60% in Germany
No it is just a (awful) trend nowadays. There are countless free Tesla stock photos: https://unsplash.com/s/photos/tesla
Kelteseth··on Current % of submissions over last 12 days with "Musk" in title that are flagged
Pretty much all nazi salute submissions got flagged.

Kelteseth··on Leidenfrost Effect
I recently discovered that the trick for regular steel pans is to just combine oil and butter to get a none stick coding.
Kelteseth··on Nvidia announces next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs
I tested ollama with 7600XT at work and the mentioned 7900XTX. Both run fine with their VRAM limitations. So you can just switch between different quantization of llama 3.1 or the vast amount of different models at https://ollama.com/search
Kelteseth··on Nvidia announces next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs
Nah it's quite easy these days. Ollama runs perfectly fine on Windows, comfyUI still has some not ported requirements, so you have to do stuff through WSL2.
Kelteseth··on Nvidia announces next-gen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs
Why not go for AMD? I just got a 7900XTX for 850 euros, it runs ollama or comfyUI via WSl2 quite nicely.
Kelteseth··on Spotify Shuts Down ‘Unwrapped’ Artist Royalty Calculator with Legal Threats
After nearly 10 years of Spotify I think I have heard it all. Now my discover weekly is filled with rock covers of pop songs or music I'm just not into. So either the algorithm got bad or I discovered all music I like.

I can recommend everyone this video by Rick Beato: The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse

Kelteseth··on Android doesn't need the Apple ecosystem features the EU wants to give it
I disagree. I have an S24 and an Apple TV, because IMHO they are the best devices in their field. This would finally allow me to cast my phone screen to my AppleTV.
Kelteseth··on Veo 2: Our video generation model
For people like nurses, yes. That just a normal job requirement.

Kelteseth··on Alzheimer's Mortality Lowest for Taxi, Ambulance Drivers
Makes me wonder if video games would have a similar effect, when you have to navigate in a 3d world.
Kelteseth··on Veo 2: Our video generation model
Nonsense like:

- People were 'forced' into vaccinations

- Covid 19 was a testing ground for the next global pandemic so that "they" can control us

- Climate change is a hoax/Renewables are our doom

- Everything our government does is to create a totalitarian state next.

- Putin is actually the victim, it is all NATO fault and their imperialism

Kelteseth··on Veo 2: Our video generation model
> and why they hate X and other freer media sources

I left X precisely because it was flooded with Russian propaganda/misinformation.

Kelteseth··on Show HN: I automated Reddit account warm-ups
I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of this. It will only accelerate the dead internet theory.
Kelteseth··on Ask HN: What email client are you truly happy with in 2024?
Thunderbird. Also, the new Thunderbird Android app is by far the best email client I have ever used on Android.
