The two most difficult things in programming: caching, naming and off-by-one errors.
KPLauritzen··on Switzerland vs Silicon Valley for Software Developers
Oops. My bad.
KPLauritzen··on Switzerland vs Silicon Valley for Software Developers
Edit: I was wrong. I'm comparing monthly cost and yearly income.

I think your math is wrong. 4,000 CHF / 100,000 CHF = 4%

KPLauritzen··on OpenAI Five
Without considering salaries you can look up the costs for their compute: https://cloud.google.com/compute/pricing 128,000 CPUs and 256 GPUs I think they mention training for 2 months in the video

Wow, very excited about this. I don't know too much about RL, but for me the "170,000 possible actions per hero" seems far too large an output space to be feasible. What happens if the bot wants to do an invalid action? Nothing, or some penalty for selecting something invalid?
KPLauritzen··on John Carmack is suing ZeniMax
The interview with Hugo Martin, the creative director of DOOM, is great - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVLecokaRv4

I think GP meant the Valve "New Employee" Handbook
KPLauritzen··on Lee Sedol Beats AlphaGo in Game 4
They've been in overtime before. In game 2 I think. AlphaGo spent about 30 seconds on each move
KPLauritzen··on Show HN: Chemozart – molecule editor and visualizer with mechanics calculators
Some colleagues of mine build a similar tool, http://molcalc.org/

It gives you access to a lot more properties of the molecule you build than just the energy: Thermodynamics, solvation energies, vibrational frequencies etc.

There is a recent interview with Marc Andreesen on EconTalk where he talk about how hard it would have been to realize that Google was a good buy at the time. Details here: http://www.econtalk.org/archives/2014/05/marc_andreessen.htm...
KPLauritzen··on Bitbucket passes one million users
exactly, private repos. When you are talking about some OSS project it is often on github, but the authors might still have their private stuff on bitbucket. And there would be no reason to mention it.
KPLauritzen··on Python trademark at risk in Europe
There is no universities from Denmark on that list, and I know that several of them offer courses in Python.

I've reached out to a professor from University of Copenhagen who teaches a course on Molecular Dynamics using Python.

Another course from Copenhagen teaching Python is listed here http://sis.ku.dk/kurser/viskursus.aspx?knr=130419

KPLauritzen··on Bitcoin hits year-high of $20
I would think that roughly 50k USD would be enough incentive for most people to start remembering REALLY hard
KPLauritzen··on Want to learn to code? Don't copy and paste, type out other people's code
COuld you elaborate a bit on what the benefit of the other representations in your example. I don't get it.
KPLauritzen··on You Will Never Kill Piracy, and Piracy Will Never Kill You
Actually, Grooveshark is not doing a great job of paying their royalities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grooveshark#Licensing_and_criti... I think spotify are a bit better with their payment to artists.

But your point still stands. They are competing with piracy, and doing a good job too.

KPLauritzen··on Why we didn't make an app
Exactly! There is a good article about it here, http://worrydream.com/ABriefRantOnTheFutureOfInteractionDesi...

Our hands are amazing for feeling minute changes with the tips of our fingers. And we discard that ability if every device we interact with is a glass surface
