JuDue··on Twitter Hacked – 250,000 User Accounts Potentially Compromised
There is a hack/virus where your account gets hijacked and messages are sent to your contacts with wording like "I found this pic of you" or "and embarrassing photo of you!"... and anyone who clicks is themselves hacked.

Thing is... this spammy virus has been around for a WHOLE YEAR

It's AMAZING Twitter hasn't analysed those messages by now and worked out a way to detect them

Especially because the account spams rapidly until you reach your message limit.....

WTF Twitter?!

JuDue··on Google Maps for iOS
Google dominate this area, obviously.

It's great we are happy to have working maps, but let's just hope other companies can break the monopoly on our location data at some point.

JuDue··on Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
True, not every Android phone is positioning itself as a powerhouse smart device.

As such, buying a cheap Android device today may not tell us much about OS loyalty?

May be a mute point.

Windows saturated the world for decades and people just used it because it swamped them of choice..... that still worked very much in Microsofts favour, and may ultimately mean Android/Adsense wins.

JuDue··on Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
Yet so many Android phones are walled gardens in relation to manufacturer spamware and crippled upgrade paths.

Profiting from apps is hard for the majority of devs, and generally acknowledged to be more so on Android.

JuDue··on Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
Optus and Telstra both allow you to choose your payback plan and rate? So yearly is always possible, even if not seen on the posters.
JuDue··on Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
Samsung made itself miss out.
JuDue··on Android Overtakes Apple in Australia
Android is the new Feature Phone in some ways (as well as high end models too).

Google always intended saturation to prop up their Ad model.

Interesting to hear stirrings of Apple iterating faster.

Apple already pwn the market profit-wise. But do they need to fend of a competitive OS which aims to saturate?

Or can they live side by side? And nudge out Windows phone together?

JuDue··on Hacking Windows 8 Games
Except not every OS makes it easy to install third party hacks. Or as beneficial.

Jailbreaking iOS is quite a step for the majority of users, and means relinquishing the benefits and ease of the Store.

Arguably, if this article is any indication, elements of Win8 are not secure enough to outweigh the benefits of these quick and simple hacks.

Having said that, Win8 is less of a closed minimal mobile system, and probably better compared to OSX. Desktop with a tablet layer bolted on.

JuDue··on Hacking Windows 8 Games
True almost every security layer is crackable.

The idea is to make buying an app more convenient than the effort and time involved in cracking.

Not sure Windows8 apps are there yet, reading this. Will undoubtably be addressed in future updates, but a little scary how easy the hacks were.

JuDue··on How to allow direct file uploads from JavaScript to Amazon S3 signed by Python
Thanks for that Brett

I'd still prefer a service like Filepicker over running my own service.

However would of been good to see a blog or twitter update on these issues.... I might of missed something, but so far not able to see anything of the sort?

Does Filepicker have a Status page? Like Herokus? Cannot see anything on your homepage.

Everyone expects outages and such. But seeing the acknowledgement and plans for improvement helps!

(Congrats on the service... I'm still choosing you guys!)

JuDue··on Apple blocking SkyDrive from iOS store, wants cut of revenue
Well who really knows how two IT giants communicate.

There is little to stop MS from expecting the DropBox model to be accepted - it depends what else they are asking.

We simply don't know the details of all this, beyond the MS focused blog item.

MS want Skydrive and their own mobile/tablet App prowess recognised..

.. and here they are David compromising with Goliath!

JuDue··on Apple blocking SkyDrive from iOS store, wants cut of revenue
This is a good point.

Also wondering what's stopping MS from doing down the DropBox path and not allowing purchases on iOS.

JuDue··on After Instagram Breakup, Twitter Adds Photo Editing and Filters
I really hope Twitter can capture the popular appeal with this.

Because at the moment, the person on the street only knows Facebook and Instagram as their social networking.

Which isn't very social, when you think about it.

JuDue··on What I Learned Building Twitter Bootstrap
What I want to know is... Why LESS and not SASS?

Seems to me, TBS is the only thing keeping LESS alive.

SASS/Compass seems to be the better choice? http://css-tricks.com/sass-vs-less/

(Logic and Loops are big ticket items).

JuDue··on Twitter Adds Instagram-Like Photo Filters
This is great news.

Anyone who cares about social outside of Facebook/Instagram should be supporting this.

JuDue··on How to allow direct file uploads from JavaScript to Amazon S3 signed by Python
So any more details about the issues at Filepicker?

Can't see any stories on HN

An outage is expected on services, even self-made ones like this.

JuDue··on How to allow direct file uploads from JavaScript to Amazon S3 signed by Python
But does this mean Javascript is talking to your server rather than S3?

Because the beauty of filepicker is that a user is not locking up one of your processes while they spend minutes uploading a file.

Especially important on Heroku, for example. Though I'm sure a self hosted node server could fare better, I'd sooner stick it out with Filepicker.

JuDue··on IRecognition: I am no longer Apple's Target Market
If you want an upgradable computer, then all-in-one designs were never going to be the economical path.

Predicting this guy just needs to wait to see the next Mac Pro.

I'm still delighted with Apple.

Both iOS and OSX are prime for some rethinking (beyond a few licks of paint). But I do think Apple is in a far better position to do this well and in their own time now the Windows 8 threat has imploded on itself (somewhat ... well, at least it's not found huge momentum yet).

JuDue··on Adobe and HTML
Android was expanding more rapidly than iOS.

What reason do you suggest for them not latching onto that opportunity?

JuDue··on Adobe and HTML
Steve disliked Flash because it crashed small mobile devices and chewed system resources.

A few years later Adobe AGREED with this by discontinuing Flash on Android.

JuDue··on Steve Ballmer's Nightmare is Coming True
Unfortunately being similar to 2008 Apple Air specs just isn't going to cut it.
JuDue··on Steve Ballmer's Nightmare is Coming True
Given the massive, dominant install base of Windows, you'd of hoped for a better result after the first tablet friendly version was released.

Particularly the slashed OS price, and bundling of the previous cash cow, Office, in RT.

Agree it might take time to catch on, but these days that doesn't seem to be a truth either. Windows Phone looked like a sure winner to me a year ago - or, atleast, more than its current 1%.

Things are moving fast, and people have broadened their minds in the past 3 years of iPad exposure.

What MS needed was a product that took the iPad by the horns. Either that or released its Surface "compromise" (which it certainly is) 2 years ago.

JuDue··on IFixit iMac teardown reveals dual mics, difficult RAM upgrades and glued-on LCD
I guess we wont really know until we see the new Power Macs.

The line up is shifting downwards towards the Air.

iMac = desktop Air :)

JuDue··on A tour of the world in d3.js
Didn't they give up on porting it to mobile?

This runs choppy on my old iPhone, but it doesn't make the page lag.

Flash often kills my browser and brings my entire system to a halt.

Sorry, but it's still buggy as all hell.

JuDue··on How to directly upload files to Amazon S3 from your client side web app
Filepicker is a great idea, especially if you want to alter the image size or make thumbnails without the hassle of setting up the processor.

Just with their image manipulations were a bit more fully featured, like imagemagic

JuDue··on Apple SSDs and the fusion drive ripoff
Interesting that he lied about the price. Or at the very least added lots of spin.

People trust Apple. Are happy with Apple care. Don't mind paying a little extra for solutions that actually work and for a comparatively seamless user experience.

Haters gonna hate.

JuDue··on Microsoft releases tool for creating Windows 8 apps in the browser
Am I the only one who finds the design and layout totally confounding on their desktop browser?

Might flow smoother on a touch tablet?

JuDue··on Microsoft releases tool for creating Windows 8 apps in the browser
Agreed, there are lots of tools like this around.
JuDue··on Ask PG: Fix the broken flagging system? Surface article just got flagged off FP
And MS items get flagged off often because microsoft cannot buy peoples hearts with a billion dollars in advertising after decades of an ugly monopoly.

Works both ways.

JuDue··on Ask PG: Fix the broken flagging system? Surface article just got flagged off FP
Hmm... pointing out the heavy amount of MS stories on front page... pointing out MS dominate the OS space.... obviously this must be down voted at all costs.
