JonahBraun··on Undefined medium – A free and open-source monospace typeface
Looks like the website is done with it: https://undefined-medium.com/
JonahBraun··on A Type of Road Junction that Kills Cyclists
In the article, the author explains that from the cyclists orientation, the car approaches from 94 degrees.
JonahBraun··on Ask HN: How do you brew your coffee?
You can get a stainless steel french press. Typically they are vacuum insulated as well, which is nice.
JonahBraun··on Views of the Sea Floor Near the Entrance to San Francisco Bay
Gorgeous. Anyone have any tips on printing this in high quality?
JonahBraun··on HN: Please add Reddit style collapsible comments
Actually collapsing comments helps. Often insightful top level comments are posted at a later time. These remain less read and less voted because of their position.
JonahBraun··on MySQL is a Better NoSQL
Interesting that he advocates MySQL. PostgreSQL can index and interact with the JSON stored in it's columns, which make it a better choice as a NoSQL replacement.

JonahBraun··on REI to shut on Black Friday to have employees go outside
Actually they frequently have member sales with insane prices.
JonahBraun··on First chapter of Kernighan and Donovan's new Go book [pdf]
You missed the joke re: Go 2.

I don't think Go is done. The active development speaks otherwise.

JonahBraun··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (September 2015)

Location: Los Angeles, California and Edmonton, Canada
  Remote: Yes, preferred
Willing to relocate: Yes, if the location is cool enough.
  Technologies: Go (Golang)
  Resume: http://goodcoffee.ca/hn-jonah-resume-pu2c6cas7tcwjqj9/
  Email: Jonah at GoodCoffee.ca
I've been writing code for decades and am currently looking for a remote position coding go. As an example of my go code, see https://github.com/JonahBraun/wago I am actively working on the next release, expecting to be done next week.
JonahBraun··on OS X Command Line Utilities
I think you posted this because pasting the OP results in a syntax error. The problem is actually the list in the compound command needs to be terminated with a newline or semicolon. Both of the following are equivalent correct oneliners:

clip() { [ -t 0 ] && pbpaste || pbcopy;}

function clip { [ -t 0 ] && pbpaste || pbcopy;}

JonahBraun··on OnHub
> The wireless radios in routers deteriorate

Citation needed. What exactly do you think is deteriorating here? It's not like the antenna is oxidizing from use…

JonahBraun··on A More Ergonomic Keyboard Strategy
I've done this and it works for normal typing. The downside is key combinations do not work across the keyboards (at least on Mac OS X). Example, pressing cmd on the left keyboard and p on the right keyboard will not trigger cmd-p.
JonahBraun··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2015)
I'm assuming your trying to search and only see remote positions. Quick CLI hack, tested only on MacOSX w/ gnu coreutils:

<select all from this page, copy> pbpaste | tr '\n' '⁄' | sed 's/\[−\]/\n/g' | grep -ai 'remote' | grep -avi 'no remote' | tr '⁄' '\n'

JonahBraun··on Air Traffic Control Simulator
You could in the terminal based atc from BSD games. Great fun.
JonahBraun··on Incident Report – DDoS Attack
EasyDNS provides integration with AWS: http://easyroute53.com/

They have an interesting blog post about setting up secondary DNS: http://blog.easydns.org/2013/09/10/what-we-are-doing-about-c...

I have no affiliation with them, just a happy customer.

JonahBraun··on Chernobyl’s Hot Mess, “the Elephant’s Foot,” Is Still Lethal (2013)
Agreed. Anyone find an authoritative explanation on the photo? I couldn't.
JonahBraun··on Chernobyl’s Hot Mess, “the Elephant’s Foot,” Is Still Lethal (2013)
> Particles emitted from radioactive atoms are a form of ionizing radiation—they have enough energy to scramble atoms and molecules they crash into. (This is different from non-ionizing radiation, like the kind emitted by your cell phone, which does not have enough energy to break bonds.)

I think this is a poor explanation. Radiation from your cell phone is electromagnetic radiation. This is far different from a radiated particle, an actual proton or electron flying out.

Essentially a particle vs a wave, which is more of a difference than "not enough energy". Is that correct?

JonahBraun··on DEC64: Decimal Floating Point
In one format, IEE754 has 24576 possible representations of zero[1], which fits your definition of "wasted bits". Some of your other criticisms might be valid, but at this point I'd like to see an accurate technical comparison between DEC64 and the decimal formats of IEEE 754.

JonahBraun··on DEC64: Decimal Floating Point
I'm not an expert but you seem to be wrong on this. The wikipedia article you linked to for the IEEE 754 decimal64 format says:

"Because the significand is not normalized, most values with less than 16 significant digits have multiple possible representations; 1×102=0.1×103=0.01×104, etc. Zero has 768 possible representations (1536 if you include both signed zeros)."

JonahBraun··on Next Time Your Mom Says Don't Go Out in The Rain, Spray Yourself With This
The comment about painting the boat reminds me of supercavitation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercavitation used to greatly increase speed of some torpedos.

You could probably retain stability of the boat by painting stripes from front to back. They would act similar to fins.

JonahBraun··on Linus Torvalds won't do github pull requests
Looks like he replied through email rather than the github interface. His mail client would have formated the email and signature.
JonahBraun··on Coding Horror: Separating Programming Sheep from Non-Programming Goats
> The example of "mental model of assignment" is ridiculous. a=b can mean whatever. It means something totally different to a mathematician than a programmer. Say:

That's why the first group (the predicted to be successful group) is defined as forming a consistent mental model and not necessarily the correct one:

> 44% of students formed a consistent mental model of how assignment works (even if incorrect!)

JonahBraun··on Scrolling: it’s really OK to have some white space at the bottom of the window
Safari in iOS handles this nicely. You can scroll below the bottom of the page and the default grey background _behind_ the page becomes visible. Desktop browsers could also do this.
