Jarmsy··on Six months as a full time pancreas
The times I've had crazy fast drops from a bolus have mostly been when the needle went too deep and made it act more like intramuscular than subcutaneous. In the early days(I was diagnosed in my teens so always self managed) I used more injection sites, but have found that the only ones that work predictably for me are the abdomen and the sides of my butt. Something about the consistency of the fat there. Trying shoulders, arms or further round or down the thighs I would get big variations in speed from one injection to the next, even with 4mm needles.

Catchy name
Jarmsy··on AI wins state fair art contest, annoys humans
I'm not sure I'd even call it intentionally deceiving, just a significant omission. I think it is part of why some people were annoyed though - it's obviously a bit more nuanced than the headline suggests, and not all a bunch of luddites totally against the use of AI in art. The specifics matter - some people found particular aspects of how this person went about it annoying.

That "an online AI art tool" in the first sentence is potentially misleading, as the clarification is being made in this article, but this clarification was not made by the artist at the time.

He said (in the Midjourney Discord) that when submitting he "stated that he made them via Midjourney", but it sounds like he didn't make clear that this was an AI tool.

Sincarnate — 26/08/2022 Yes the description clearly stated I created them via Midjourney starshadowx2 — 26/08/2022 Was it explained what Midjourney was though Sincarnate — 26/08/2022 This is why I did it. Should I have explained what Midjourney was? If so, why?

He also mentions that he originally mentioned Midjourney in the caption, but didn't correct them when they edited that part out.

I think these sorts of details do matter.

Jarmsy··on A Letter from Ken Snelson Regarding Buckminster Fuller and Tensegrity (1990)
I like tensegrity structures as sculptures and engineering exercises, but do cringe when I see attempts to make things like tensegrity footbridges applying these forms too literally.

There have been some neat robots that walk by changing the cable lengths though.

Also - the first geodesic domes were designed by Walther Bauersfeld over 2 decades before Fuller.

Hasn't that been promised and delayed dozens of times already? Do you think it will ever really happen?

You're not missing much. Not sure why this article was ever upvoted, it has pretty much zero insight or entertainment value.
Jarmsy··on Continuous glucose monitoring on the Apple Watch
Nice. T1 here wishing you success!
Jarmsy··on Continuous glucose monitoring on the Apple Watch
When I was doing a lot of sports (though nothing quite as high contact as grappling), I'd put a couple of strips of kinesiology tape over the sensor which helped a lot with keeping them on. You need to put something non adhesive between the back of the sensor and the tape though, to avoid pulling it off when you change the tape.
Jarmsy··on Continuous glucose monitoring on the Apple Watch
Agreed, I would have preferred a title like 'receiving glucose readings on watch'. I already have my readings being sent from my Libre sensor to my phone, but thought this was going to be a story about true non invasive monitoring (many companies have been supposedly developing tech to read glucose from the skin surface, though afaik none actually work yet)
Jarmsy··on Werner Herzog eats his shoe
I wonder how toxic boiled shoe leather is. Would there be anything nasty left from the tanning process or polish?

I was expecting interactive simulation. For just a rotatable pausable animation I'd prefer it to be a website.
Jarmsy··on Uniformly Sample Points in a Disk
It's not too bad in 2d, but the efficiency of the rejection method gets very bad in higher dimensions.

Jarmsy··on Tether starting to lose its peg too, after Terra did
Isn't the difference now though that Tether is much more entwined with the whole crypto system than it was 5 years ago? So as one falls each pulls the other down with it.

Jarmsy··on Plasticity Is CAD for Artists
MagicaCSG is cool but implicit modelling is a world away from a NURBS tool like this.
Jarmsy··on The origin story of our new ortholinear keyboard

Jarmsy··on The Unreasonable Math of Type 1 Diabetes
It is expensive, but testing with strips >5x a day can easily end up costing more. When I was on strips I usually needed at least that to have anywhere near decent control.
Jarmsy··on Rats in Doom VR
After this and the recent conversation about the 'rat shadows' setting in Dishonored, I just keep humming to myself-

I guess even if that were the case, there'd still be the increased risk of catching and passing it to vulnerable people with reduced immunity.

Jarmsy··on Stockfish 14
My impression from playing against lower levels of the default stockfish on Lichess is that it's really bad at playing badly, so not much fun to play against. It seems like it plays at full power, interspersed with random bad moves.
Jarmsy··on Functioning ‘mechanical gears’ seen in nature for the first time (2013)
"Unlike man-made gears, each gear tooth is asymmetrical and curved towards the point where the cogs interlock – as man-made gears need a symmetric shape to work in both rotational directions, whereas the Issus gears are only powering one way to launch the animal forward"

What are some examples of man made gears that work differently when rotating the other way?

What definition of addiction are you going by? Most seem to include some mention of 'despite adverse effects' or similar. Otherwise isn't it just dependence?
