JackSlateur··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
Nuclear is a sane, qualitative and working solution to a real problem

The only solution known yet

Is there anything more to say ?

JackSlateur··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
About waste: somehow, this is a solved problem (at scale) ? Fast breeder reactor, half life ~= 30 years (IIRC)

From your message, I understand that your country fails to build nuclear plant in a timely fashion but that other (china) can. Seems like a lack of skill/willingness to me, not a technical issue.

JackSlateur··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
I dunno, China seems to be doing exactly that

Perhaps the self-induced costs can be volontarily reduced and not inflated ?

Thank you for this very detailled and instructive post
JackSlateur··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
.. what ?

People are working on problems I cannot manage (who could have known) and they cannot say anything about that but we have to trust them to bring results out of thin air ? Is this politics .. ?

If your personal accusations can be boiled down to : "shame ! you are not gullible!", then please know that, here in France, not being gullible is a compliment.

JackSlateur··on Tech leaders to UN: For sake of humanity, please control the AI tech we created

JackSlateur··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
Could you share us a proof of concept or anything that might be a solution for the heat dissipation in space, at scale ?

You see, this is the difference between bullshit and not. I can claim "we'll do timetravel soon !", but unless I share some "things" (whatever they are) that might sustain that affirmation, this is just bullshit

Does it mean that no solution exists ? No. Just that today none are known (as far as I can tell).

JackSlateur··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
It would be a shame if a rock came out of nowhere and hit that many square kilometers stucture

Luckily, there are almost no rock in space.

JackSlateur··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
That's the neat part: you don't (ergo, this is yet another marketing crap)
JackSlateur··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
4th solution: nvidia vgpu

If I remember correctly, the idea is that you have a physical GPU and you split its memory (with, eventually, time-budget) to create multiple virtual GPUs, which can then be associated with a KVM guest and use by it

(not available legally on consumer-grade GPU)

JackSlateur··on Anthropic, OpenAI et al. face antitrust suit for agreeing to slow AI development
Multiple theories, pick one

First, easy: there is money to be made, so why not try it ?

Second, more elaborated: AI is god on earth (we know that for certain: it has been said); AI will replace all humans in the next 6 month, since 2023; AI somehow sucks (today); Ergo, and this is very logical and the only conclusion, shared by all sane people: "they" are undermining us to rob us from delegating our work to AI (for free, because it costs nothing, and never does); Shame on "them" !

JackSlateur··on Closing the IPv6 first-packet gap with GRAND
Wild guess: packet forward is implemented in hardware while arp/nd is software, with probably some things (think "hardware interrupt" or something alike) that allows hardware to "call" the software stack (for instance, when the link-layer addr is unknown)

So, to implement what you said, we need more than a simple router upgrade: we'd need to change the hardware, so that when a packet is forwarded from a source that's not in the mac table, the software can (asynchronously) perform an arp/nd lookup

There is probably a world of issue behind that behavior, but I do not know

quote:

  I see unpilled people.
Where do I see them? Everywhere. The majority of people have not taken the first pill.
Most people have no idea what frontier AIs can do for them.
Yeah; Perhaps people do see the propaganda that "frontier AIs can do for them" and choose to dream of a better world, another world, a world where human-kind does better than slop;

A "security engineer minded approach" would be: own what is executed on the box;

"You just don't like that women have won a few battles recently."

Everyone can burn the house. Not sure how this count as "winning a battle".

("women" are not the only people doing that, seems to be the new game in town..)

JackSlateur··on HTTPX2 – A next-generation HTTP client for Python
niquest is something like a one-man-show, which is an issue-per-se

Of course, it is clearly superior to everything else (being authored by a french guy !). But sadly, some people do not accept this simple fact :(

JackSlateur··on How to disable or avoid intrusive AI
Switched to Qwant because of that .. (corporate laptop does not allow changing the search engine urls, only changing the engine itself)

Honestly ? Not a stressy move, the major things that changes is that the IA bullshit is gone

LLMs can re-write and cross-translate software really well.
Is that was true, claude would be written in Rust;
JackSlateur··on Python string literals are kinda funny
t-string main use case is SQL (for instance, in psycopg¹)

You can write things like that without SQL injection:

  t"INSERT INTO mytable (first_name, last_name) VALUES ({first_name}, {last_name})"
This is a very pleasant feature, very useful

"Python still does not address the issue of dynamic typing and the inability to test correctly"
This is wrong, you can enforce typing on Python (pypi: typeguard)

The only issue with Python is performance, which is only an issue if you need performance.
