J_cst··on The hard part of Enterprise Software is the Enterprise, not the Software
It's three good years now that I am consulting at a firm as a link between the company and ERP provider. At the time the presented problem was 'the ERP doesn't work'. Today the majority of the issues are resolved and it's pretty clear that the problem was the process, not the ERP (which, btw is far from perfect). My job is something between understanding and fixing the process plus reducing the software customisation requests. On top of that, just add your typical ERP with totally counter intuitive UIs and a bunch of users with an overall general aversion to changes.

I love my job btw.

(I've not read the article, but I like the topic and felt like to drop this comment).

J_cst··on Italian towns will pay you to work remotely
If you can keep your turnover below 65keur* you can open a "regime forfettario" type of fiscal position. This will grant you 5 years at 5% taxes (15% afterwards) on profit with minimal paperwork. In addition to that you'll have to pay about 15% of mandatory pension savings (but that's not taxes and you should get it back when retired).

*They may increase this to 100k.

OP may well be interested in HN crowd comments and points of view and that seems acceptable to me. At the end of the day, this is HN, not S.O. Be well! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ◉‿◉
J_cst··on Donald Judd's Iconic Chair 84 Design (2020)
My father has been making chairs from 1973 to 2016. I've grown up around the factory and all I can say is that wooden chairs are probably the most difficult piece of furniture to be produced. There is a lot of fiddling around angles and slopes and math. A typical wooden chair is made up of at least 12 different wooden parts to be joined together with tenons, mortises and all that jazz. Calling that apples box a chair is insulting. I am sorry, I know I sound crabbed, but that's just the truth...

J_cst··on Ask HN: What is it like to be old? What advice would you give to younger people?
Try to eat well. I had no 'dietary education' from my family (basically it was an "eat what you like, when you like") and at 44 I fiscally felt so bad that I went to my doctor saying "I need to be checked as I think I have something really bad". I went through a number of checks and I was fine. This was also worsened as I am not obese, so I did not connect in a first instance my feeling bad with my eating habits. I decided to loose some weight and I put myself on a quite silly diet since few months now. I am eating mon-fri one time every 24 hours. Basically I have a meal a day (a dinner) and any junk food or sweet has been banned. I have lost weight (and I'm still loosing about 800/1000 grams per week) and I feel great now. My second advice is to pick a job which aligns with the things you enjoy doing. This will not necessarily lead to money, but still you will enjoy it. Consider we work the majority of our time.
J_cst··on Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person (2016)
We all tend to change time passing. Me and the person married 15 years ago are most definitely two different persons today. So marriage is an effort of will to be renewed each day. Children can help as they may strengthen your will to stay together in their interest. Economics have a major role too. If the couple is well off together, this may help too. I think humans are not born to be monogamous, but they have been (poorly) programmed to accept that by religion and society.

J_cst··on Has the bidet's time in North America finally arrived?
I've had a bidet in my bathrooms since I was born (actually I believe we have bidets since at least my father was born in 1951) and:

1. I can not imagine my life without it 2. In my very humble opinion the only effective use of bidet, as parent states, is seated towards the tap using hands, soap, and mildly warm water. After that, washing hands at the bathroom sink

J_cst··on Bankers Go Home, Tellers Stay: Virus Exposes Office Inequalities
In Italy we have two different words: 'banchiere' the one who owns the bank, 'bancario' the one who works at the bank.
J_cst··on Italy is extending its coronavirus quarantine measures to the entire country
Quarantine for everything but the very bare minimum services (the ones you mention but the food which can be distributed home to home) seems the only logical path to the resolution of the matter. The spread of the virus caused by a relaxed quarantine (as the one enforced now, based on people good will) will certainly cause the collapse of the system you are describing due to the saturation of the hospitals. During tonight's news, journalist Mentana showed graphs describing a significant decrease in contagion in the Lodi and Codogno areas, i.e. in those areas where the most drastic measures have been taken. In order to have a functioning economy, I believe it is necessary to have a population and not just what remains of it.

J_cst··on Italy is extending its coronavirus quarantine measures to the entire country
not at all, it just seems a misprint / little error
J_cst··on Italy is extending its coronavirus quarantine measures to the entire country
I have been reviewing the situation with a colleague of mine, and we have now realized that the new measures are not enough. It makes no sense to allow burger king or any bar to stay open util 6 p.m. And it makes no sense to allow to go to work for any undeferrable (or also deferrable) reason. The only effective measure seems logically to be quarantine, and for me and my family (2+2), from tomorrow afternoon quarantine will be. The government will finally arrive to the same conclusion, but a later stage. At the moment they seem to be still trying to balance the counteracting of the epidemic and the economic damage, but to us that's not the correct thing to do.
J_cst··on How Pandemics Change History
Ok, so the thousands people at the train station it must be a one off situation, my mistake. It's quite obvious that generalizations are always wrong, but you know our people as I do. I believe the patterns should be quite evident by now. Obviously there are outliers that do not share the common patterns among Italians too.
J_cst··on How Pandemics Change History
We are Italians and we are unable to respect the rules. Tonight a pdf of a draft of the above document has leaked and we had thousands of people rushing to the train stations to get out from Milan and Lombardia region. So basically we created a situation where thousands of people packed to flee from the red zones to get back to their regions in south italy (and possibly to spread the disease even more). Italians are strong individualists and think they're really smart. Spoiler: we are not
