If core of your business is not IT you can not be fired for selecting Oracle.
HunOL··on Trending tabs are being deprecated due to low usage
Sad news. For me it was ritual on Friday mornings check trending repos for the past week. Thanks to it I found out about few nice projects.
HunOL··on Cities should not pay for new stadiums
>I tried googling more directly for global popularity/famousness, but couldn't find any hard data.

HunOL··on The debate about nuclear power and climate change
> Far too expensive compared to other non-fossil alternatives.

But what are the costs of unstable supply and behavior of whole grid?

HunOL··on I closed a lot of browser tabs
It's necessary to add that it's searching all bookmarks by title, URL and tags.

Another convinien search shortcut is ^ (for history) and % (for open tabs).

HunOL··on Facebook is now claiming official CDC.gov links are “False Information”
Would be good if social media stop promote some posts and order them in my feed. Make them all chronological. Too many posts? Unsubscribe.
HunOL··on Ask HN: Does anyone use keyboard/mouse extra buttons for coding?
I have logitech M510 and have two additional buttons on left side. One is for Enter and second is for Delete. Using it multiple years and so used to it that I couldn't imagine my daily work without it.
HunOL··on Group Video Calls
I did not tested group (video or audio) calls, but 1 on 1 it works exactly as you (and me) expect. You could just call someone and it will ring on other side.
HunOL··on Group Video Calls
There is possibility to set self-destruct timer for photos you send.
HunOL··on Avoid Consumer Routers
Problem with all alternative firmwares is that you don't know whether your relatively new product will be supported or not. Sometimes it's matter of product revision.
HunOL··on Openstreetmap’s product fails to compete with Google Maps
The biggest drawback of OSM and OS-related apps is POI. Lots of outdated information so it's not reliable and can not be used day to day life.
HunOL··on Verizon suspends advertising on Facebook, joins growing boycott
That's why I told to select date range before, like 2010-2019.
HunOL··on Verizon suspends advertising on Facebook, joins growing boycott
> Trump did more than you suggest. He used well understood language (“when the looting starts the shooting starts” is a famous quote from a white supremacist) to encourage his supporters to murder/lynch blacks.

Yet somehow it's hard to find this quote in Google if you select range before the events.

HunOL··on It’s Time to Get Back to RSS
Absolutely agree. I just can't get why in every discussion about RSS somebody mentions that y it's dead because publishers had to give away content for free. Feed could contain full article, but don't have to.
HunOL··on We need to take CO2 out of the sky – an overview of climate tech
Changing minds and habits of billions of people is more simple and feasible? For me it's ridiculous. Any technological solution looks way better for me.
HunOL··on Switching from Chrome to Firefox
I am using Firefox with profiles for years (maybe even decade). Run Firefox from command line with -P flag to start profile manager or -p <profile> to run particular profile. Rest is matter of shortcut/custom icons to launch.
HunOL··on Privacy analysis of Tiktok’s app and website
> Even though these practices may be legal you'll agree that 99% of the people here are not ok with them

Sad truth is that they are not ok with it only because it's TikTok and it has Chinese origin.

HunOL··on “We would like to apologize to the user for the error on our part this morning”
Because clearly only West is allowed to decide who is terrorist and who is not.
HunOL··on Greensboro Man Creates Dating App Where He's the Only Guy Allowed
Well, such mechanism exist in Badoo. I am not sure if it present in US and West Europe, but it's present in East Europe.

Beside classic like/dislike/match there is possibility to look who is around and directly message person. Depending how person is popular it could be free to start conversation or you will have to use "coins".

HunOL··on Microsoft 4-day week boosts productivity and sales
Probably because I have no children and I am not weekend-traveler but I really don't get why some people are so excited about 4 days week. My utilization of hours during weekends is horrible. What I find attractive is idea of working less hours during normal week. Having one more hour at the end of the day sounds way better for me. Moreover from productivity perspective I believe it's better too because nobody is working 8 hours with maximum productivity.
HunOL··on We Need to Dream Bigger Than Bike Lanes
With one exception that you have to find 5200 people, while cars actually transporting 1500 people and I am not talking about public transport.

From my point of view the top priority should be good public transport.

HunOL··on Firefox 70
> One thing that Safari is incredibly good at (and its' engineers are proud of) is the ability to reduce resource consumption for non-active tabs and windows to nearly zero. This is really good when running on battery because it is a shame to dedicate resources to things that aren't even visible on screen. But this could make the results far more dramatic through your test.

Does it mean that page in background isn't updated in Safari?

HunOL··on TikTok explains its ban on political advertising
> How can society change for the better if you can't communicate and try to convince people of your ideas in the public space? If you see a problem and think you have a (political) solution, you should be able to advertize your solution.

It increase impact of money. Who have more money more likely to win.

HunOL··on Forever 21, Which Helped Popularize Fast Fashion, to File for Bankruptcy
> goods and brands that claim sustainability as a value... Claiming sustainability and being sustainable are two different things. For instance "C&A" is making a lot of things from "Bio Cotton", but you if search for Bio Cotton on their website https://www.c-and-a.com/uk/en/corporate/company/sustainabili... you find this:

"BIO COTTON is all of that. It guarantees you that no genetically modified seeds are used, it supports farmers, saves the environment and feels good for you and your loved ones."

Maybe I am biased (I am not opposed to GMO), but I have doubts that this is the best way to be environment friendly.

HunOL··on Berlin crash prompts calls to ban SUVs from German cities
I am disgusted with society and the way they want ban everything for sake of alleged safety.
HunOL··on Poetry: Dependency Management for Python
Worked a little with and it looks really nice and promising, but my biggest concern is number of issues on github and that vast majority of commits is done by one person.
HunOL··on Social exclusion fuels extremism in young men
Your comment is perfect example. You are willing to protect one group of minorities, but do not want to find out root cause why some members from majority are failing.
HunOL··on Eat less meat: UN climate change report calls for change to human diet
Well, solution would be to tax carbon, not the specific field. I don't see the reason and disagree to accept meat tax without banana tax. Carbon footprint should be taken into account the same way fuel cost is taken.
HunOL··on The human body is already close to thermal limits in many regions
I don't think that such ideologically fueled comments should be part of HN.
HunOL··on The human body is already close to thermal limits in many regions
Any "solution" that does not take into account human nature is not a solution.
