HeadsUpHigh··on New research reveals longevity gains slowing, life expectancy of 100 unlikely
>Sleeping well, eating well and exercising does work. Science about this is well-established. So why arent we?

Those will give you at best another marginal decade. By all means worth doing but its not radical life extension. At the same time a young body can take lack of sleep and can physically perform even if not exercising much better than an old one. So there's more to it than just lifestyle.

HeadsUpHigh··on New research reveals longevity gains slowing, life expectancy of 100 unlikely
Most longevity enhancing interventions that have worked in mice have extended healthspan and lifespan at the same rate.
HeadsUpHigh··on CO2 Battery
The volume of batteries wasn't there, neither did we really have the network to sell scrap batteries like we do with used cars.
HeadsUpHigh··on Ukraine destroys more than 40 military aircraft in drone attack deep in Russia
I still don't understand how Putin managed to convince so many people that a rule that exclusively works to his benefit is a good idea. Weak of mind.
HeadsUpHigh··on Buffett to step down following six-decade run atop Berkshire
>the bigger picture to carry most people forward

The bigger picture of getting germany dependent on russian gas while screwing eu allies.

HeadsUpHigh··on Mark Zuckerberg says social media is over
>For a lot of content Facebook groups are much better than forums

Facebook groups are very disjointed and the algo does a bad job and keeping the good bits floating to the top.

HeadsUpHigh··on Fossil fuels fall below 50% of US electricity for the first month on record
>lucky for humanity

perhaps the word lucky isn't the correct one, since lots of people worked hard to push for the initial government programs that kick-started the economies of scale. And Tesla for making viable EVs both a reality as well as desirable for a growing chunk of the population.

HeadsUpHigh··on US probes Tesla's Full Self-Driving software after fatal crash
>What model year? I'm guessing it's an older one?

Not 100% sure which year since it wasn't mine I think around 2018 +-2y. It was good at following bright painted white lines and nothing else. I didn't mind the beeping and the vibration when I stepped on a line but it wanted to actively steer the wheel which was infuriating. I wouldn't mind it if it was just a suggestion.

HeadsUpHigh··on US probes Tesla's Full Self-Driving software after fatal crash
Ive had similar experience with a Hyundai with steering assist. It would get confused by messed road lining all the time. Meanwhile it had no problem climbing a road curb that was unmarked. And it would try to constantly nudge the steering wheel meaning I had to put force into holding it in place all the time since it which was extra fatigue.

Oh and it was on by default, meaning I had to disable it every time I turned the car on.

HeadsUpHigh··on Surgeons Cut a Giant Tumor Out of My Head. Is There a Better Way?
Radiosurgery has it's limits and also horrible side effects esp in CNS tumors. If the tumor can be accessed without damaging too much healthy tissue and it's a histological type that has clean borders you are probably better off cutting it out.
HeadsUpHigh··on Story of Vitamin D Toxicity (2022)
The audacity to believe you know everything about this subject.

Super-high dosages are used in loading protocols before switching to a smaller maintenance dosage.

HeadsUpHigh··on Private company landing on the moon today
The decline in price per kg from Falcon 9 has made a big difference and yet it's nowhere near as impactful as Starship is going to be... falcon 9 is either too powerful for LEO missions and limited by fairing volume( so can't really launch space stations on a falcon 9) or too weak to push further into GEO and into the solar system. Starship will enable a lot of LEO applications previously unthinkable.
HeadsUpHigh··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
A large fraction because they get the energy almost for free. In Brazil they are using mining to compensate for the low viability in financial terms.
HeadsUpHigh··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
With mining you can reduce the cost basis of solar significantly.
HeadsUpHigh··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
It incentivizes building excess capacity. All you need is dynamic pricing so miners stop when there is grid demand. Texas is using this approach.
HeadsUpHigh··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
That is exactly the type of thing that miners that seek to capture wasted energy do.
HeadsUpHigh··on Google and AT&T invest in Starlink rival for satellite-to-smartphone service
Nobody is getting at spacex pricing any time soon. New Glenn is the only comparable vehicle and as far as we can tell it's not going to be launching in the forseeable future.
HeadsUpHigh··on Mice eating less isoleucine live longer, healthier
>I also think the conclusion of the research and the poster you responded to is rather wrong. It doesn't matter how long you live if that longevity isn't pleasantly usable.

Agreed. The "human body is a battery" type of arguments are a common misconception and have their roots on the fact that the only positive thing we've found about inflammation so far is that it's an integral part of muscle growth as a response to exercise stimuli/stress via the mtor pathways. But that's a one-off you don't need continuous inflammation to maintain your muscle and enjoy the long term benefits of it.

Oh and the plant based protein is also wrong as that protein is 99% of the time incomplete. You need multiple sources.

HeadsUpHigh··on Mice eating less isoleucine live longer, healthier
There is a statistically inverse relationship between diameter of the muscle mass of the legs and dementia[1]. Higher muscle mass has more capacity to store glycogen and in a higher priority than insulin-activated GLUT receptors which in tern means less glucose and insulin spikes. And we do know that high glucose levels are inflammatory.

Point being, a more anabolic lifestyle with higher muscle mass has direct benefits in metabolic syndrome and cognitive decline, so your trade-off is incorrect.

HeadsUpHigh··on Cryptographers solve decades-old privacy problem
zk proofs are used in public blockchains to transmit millions in value so I would assume they aren't vulnerable to side channel attacks at least not on a superficial level.
HeadsUpHigh··on The X220 ThinkPad
The large Del key is great, it makes it easier to hit it blindly while typing.
HeadsUpHigh··on E3 Has Been Canceled
True and fair, I just don't get the taste of CoD/Bf games. They all feel bland.
HeadsUpHigh··on E3 Has Been Canceled
All these AAA shooters feel the same to me. Tarkov/CS actually feel like 2 distinct games.
HeadsUpHigh··on Apple’s Mac security is so good, it’s sending used M1 MacBooks to the scrap heap
I can't stop laughing at the shit apple users justify and put themselves through. You should be able to wipe everything clean and reinstall the OS without the need of any fancy firmware nonsense. But apple convinced their mac users that that's ancient tech and they need firmware passwords now( lol).
HeadsUpHigh··on AMD Details Ryzen 7000 Launch: Ryzen 7950X and More, Coming Sept. 27th
The spike is normal and good, the cpu is supposed to ramp up for a bit to do the work before ramping down.
HeadsUpHigh··on The coming tsunami of fakery
UI/UX shapes how people react to what they see. Since the reddit redesign the quality of discussion has dropped significantly. When the interface shows less than half the content it used to and it's all focused around reddit gold emojis etc instead of the actual comment chains and posts it's expected. Sure you can redirect to old reddit but most won't and you can't change the quality of content other people put out. Overall it's incredible how easy it was for me to go from several hours of browsing interesting topics daily to barely using the site.
HeadsUpHigh··on New Intel chips won't play Blu-ray disks due to SGX deprecation
>I know a few people who hoard huge amounts of BD-rip movies on their multi-TB NAS at home. That way it's permanently available.

The old school file sharing internet is alive and well if you know where to look for it

HeadsUpHigh··on New Intel chips won't play Blu-ray disks due to SGX deprecation
Well thanks to the DMCA and friends even if the patent is expired if the tech is marked as drm you are not allowed to bypass it for eternity.
HeadsUpHigh··on Dear Spotify, can we just get a table of songs?
My results from discovering new artists have been far superior on community oriented places vs spotify or any streaming service. Algos just suck at this.
HeadsUpHigh··on The problem with Bitcoin miners

Are you under the assumption that crypto is supposed to be socialist somehow?
