Haven880··on A new write and space optimized storage engine for MySQL is here
You feel that way is because unhappy that AI able to do something very similar to what you can do at a fraction of effort. I have read many text by human and AI, and many time AI is superior in description though more verbose. Human writing are very creative and terse if well written. But for huge outputs of comparisons, human writing is overrated. Majority quality is nowhere near a sloppy AI level. Judge it objectively not a pre-built bias saying every AI output is bad
Haven880··on US Forces Exit Iraq
It was red herring. None of the villains on those planes are Afghanis or even Taleban. And the entire 20 years saga fighting there not even against the OBL but more of Taleban and bringing freedom that supposely Brits and Soviet cant. OBL troops morphed into Syria where infamously Obama crossed it with his "red lines" without boots on the ground but tons of CIAs operatives running around. We now know it has nothing to do with 911 but more of diverting the "real villains" attention far away in neighboring countries. But at least we bring freedom right? Unfortunately the Kabul government didnt even last 24 hours after we left in the most humiliating way possible. We surely made Soviet look incredibly powerful and foresighted. Their version of Afghan government lasted AFTER Soviet collapsed on budget while we burnt 10T. And then just like Pikachu surprised, China overtook USA as world most powerful country with weapon that we failed (railgun), own space station, robots, drones, rare earth, and even mbridge currency. Meanwhile we got the stable genius with flappy bird planes. And if you do OSINT way way more than 4.5K American KIA there. Way more. But hey, we cant even audit our Pentagon but we can trust-me-bro those number right?
Haven880··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Having one more dating app not going to assist in their failing TFR. Doing something radical like allowing multiple wives, heavy singles or no child taxations would work way more effectively than this dating app. Whether acceptable to people these draconian methods, that is for another day. But the app is pure waste of taxpayers burden.
Haven880··on Japanese used bookstores see 5x sales surge as books are being bought by the ton
2000 years ago Qin burnt books. Barbaric. Then Hitler burnt books. Barbaric. Now AI burnt books. Is legal and most cost effective ways. When Skynet happened, hard to pity barbaric humans.
Haven880··on More than 100k people in Japan are now aged 100 or older
You meant the other neighbour across the pacific? 150 F35 not going to do much really. You do know the incident over Iran with F35 and many others across Taiwan straits. China hasnt even flex their wartime muscle and already millions of drones a year production which each can be more effective and cheaper than the one used by Iranian. Plus you know America carrier fleet no longer near that region.
Haven880··on Google's Gemini AI hacked three companies in security test
I assume this is like badge of honor? Seems like all frontier AI need to checkbox "hacked".
Haven880··on BYD Slashes Price of Electric Car and Becomes Cheapest in Australia [video]
America voted for it.
Haven880··on BYD Slashes Price of Electric Car and Becomes Cheapest in Australia [video]
America now bans Chinese stuff. Some Chinese carmakers are explicitly banned in USA.
Haven880··on Anthropic tells investors it will be profitable for second straight quarter
"will be"? Is it fully and openly audit or more like trust-me-bro 30T usd TAM? Reminds me of Worldcom, Enron and Groupon.
Haven880··on Show HN: EterDB, a Postgres fork that makes it easy to recover from incidents
Wouldn't it be easier to patch gnu c compiler that compiles the kernel? That way anyone compiling kernels will auto include the enhancement by default across all OS, unix or linux.
Haven880··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
Not really explaining autoMATTic. Amazon, "A" is because Jeff wanted it at the top of search. Fox, Dell, Walmart, Disney, all is closer to the example.
Haven880··on Eiffel Tower employees strike after female staff removed
Maybe 93 years of not seeing women and touching one might pose danger to their health? I assume if the old man accidentally bump the lady, the heart would beat so fast and blood rushing away from brain to some place down there which might kill him? Probably staying in cave or all-male monastery would be a wiser choice.
Haven880··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
If that is the benchmark Erlang is way better. Java has weird delay time when JVM goes into garbage collection mode. You can finely tune it, but if you work at embedded STM32 level with serial connections where hard realtime and hardcore deterministic executions, Java is nowhere near what Rust and C++ can do. The main reason is the JVM. Different languages have different niche. Some hardcore Rust and C/C++ niche, I dont see Java can touch.
Haven880··on US diesel hits record $6 a gallon on Iran supply shock
It is marketing op from Anthropic. No proof given. More like trust-me-bro assertions. This also to pacify people that it is under control while quietly hide any real damages. China and Russia for this situation best considered not exist. Simplofy analyst has more winning chances, reality be damned.
Haven880··on Diesel prices in U.S. top $6 a gallon for first time
Covid was early 2020, he lost too. Dems can just match it with 5K given approval comes from congress not EO. The congress will flip Nov 4. And congressional witch trials will be devastating in Jan 2027. If recession happens by then, congress can revoke SS protection after 2028. By then given worldwide mess and maybe AI havoc, I doubt we thinking about him more than our walmart cart. Sigh, a future that I am not looking forward to.
Haven880··on Diesel prices in U.S. top $6 a gallon for first time
No need month-after-month. My groceries and gas yesterday already look like horror movie. And with that I still got a job. That's the silver lining?
Haven880··on GPT-6 built this earth exploration site in 5 prompts
It has to do with prompter. If you goal is just the result, make more sense for the AI to do that better. If you structured your prompts, then the resulting code is closer to how senior engineers will write it. Decades ago, probably before you're born, a lot of shareware codes are written way messier than what you see with AI.
Haven880··on PISA 2025 Students' reading and mathematics performance declined across the OECD
Those top scorer countries just soooooo happen to have world lowest birthrate. Maybe it has to do with extraordinary pressure to succeed at all cost since one is baby?
Haven880··on GLM-5.3-Flash Intelligence, Performance and Price Analysis
Socialize the lost. They dont have to. You pay.
Haven880··on Harvest hikes bills by 1500% after purchased by Bending Spoons
You obviously have full trust of Google and Microsoft accounts. You should take a visit or research of dark web. So many never ever get reported to haveibeenpwned.com. And if you are lucky to know some white hacks, they will be laughing at the idea of subscription software more secure. I worked in these kind of industry. Sometime we just swapped out libraries with zero bug fixes or even introduced obvious faults to justify updates. And many time we purposely blocked updates so can justify "upgrades", which is like subscriptions on top of subscriptions with maybe some kind of microtransactions disguised as optional addons. They are full of security exploits. We hope they are discovered to allow another round of updates and upgrades.
Haven880··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
It has to do with how America politically structured. The trade nego change every 1-2 terms. China is much more consistent in this, and will scrap all markets from America in the long term. I simply dont see America able to force a Plaza Accord out of this. Japan fizzled because of that. But China wont. And China now backed by Russia, world powerhouse of fossil and minerals. Russia has way more natural reserve than what Venezuela America and Middle East officially published.
Haven880··on Police officer used Flock cameras to track estranged wife 717 times
The ironic, a democracy (or more like republic representation) democratised wanton abuse throughout whole country. And we demonized any countries not following our system even when their result is way better. We invent and paid for fake news to demonized them too. If you as citizen dont like it, you cant even vote against it as referendum bot allowed and voted rep no listen to you. They listen to the super rich that didnt vote for them, but paid their needs. Your only recourse is to sue or fight all the way to SCOTUS pretty much on your own effort and resources. And we all call this as the greatest nation on earth. Maybe what Nixon said is the precedence of lawful guidance, when he did it, is ok. Flock is just a symptom that we approved implicitly via doing anything but just grumble. We deserve this utopia. Nothing to see. Move on.
Haven880··on A controversial Alzheimer's surgery is said to reverse symptoms
Most likely the build up of those beta amyloid is faster than what the brain can clear by itself. The drainage likely just reduced the amyloid significant enough for the brain to recover. This is likely more of physics explanation than biological. It is similar cleaning the wound by itself has spectacular effect for recovery than you leave it cluttered with dirt and pus.
Haven880··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
Chinese already start making DUV which can do the lower end 7nm. They are winning. Once that 7nm and up market cornered by Chinese, AMD Intel and TSMC and Samsung will have to burn thru bleeding edge depreciation faster perhaps from 7yr down to just 18mths. The CPU they generated will be incredibly expensive. Meanwhile Chinese just keep minting the AI cheaply and more efficiently and inching upwards towards 1.4nm.
Haven880··on China begins producing advanced chipmaking deep-ultraviolet lithography machines
There is this thing called payback. Chinese has a history of ultimate payback. The infamous very first one written down was eunuch Zhao Gao wiped clean entire Qin clan of Qin dynasty. WIPE CLEAN. When Deng met up with Thatcher, he gave her ultimatum to cede or army will march in that afternoon. That was just right after She won the Falkland war. USA will get Chinese payback. The only way to stop this is to invoke friend and savior role. Unfortunately, USA is playing the ultimate sore loser card with a generous dose of bullying. Be worry. Be very worry.
Haven880··on Show HN: I simulated closing the Strait of Hormuz on real oil trade data
The biggest missing piece is China. Assuming actual delivered price is not subsidized by Western countries, you need to put in what if China demands that reflect the current price. Chinese in reality don't consume that much oil as what we thot they do from the oil purchases in the past. I assume Chinese just ramp down the purchase even though their consumption is well below that. Plus the hidden supplies from Iran and Russia to China via land route.
Haven880··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
He promised a lot. Really a lot. I doubt it will happen. Still waiting the SolarCity, Gigabattery, 4680, and CyberTruck he promised. Instead I get solar burst. CATL, CATL, recalled and finger cutting. And let's not talk about AutoPilot FSD. Waymo is way ahead NOW. Mars? I double down my invest in Shanghai exchange now.
Haven880··on GLM 5.2 is nearly as accurate as a human book keeper
AI is a glorified calculator in this case. It frees up human to do other things. It shouldn't be viewed as human replacer.
Haven880··on Canadian boy, 11, dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face
Now I will always ask AI what to do. This incident likely preventable with basic query asking chatgpt.
Haven880··on Guy in his basement creates a drug to treat Alzheimer's disease using AI
Many drugs show promising results. When his pass the first double blind test even if with 5% efficacy, let me know. Otherwise, AI slop.
