HalcyonicStorm··on Tuxedo Stellaris: A Powerful Linux Laptop
I'm game if i can buy a 3080 or 3090 or an equivalent ATI. I love desktops so i have nothing against it.

I am aware of those options. I avoid them for 2 reasons. 1) I'm hesitant to go to a service where I'm just leasing a game. Valve has proven to be a good steward (im aware of GOG being better in that you actually own the game). I've already bought $X000 of games on there over the years and my experience has always been good. I don't want to try another service where I have to rebuy games. 2) I live in NYC with a max 10ms ping to a server in a game. When I go to my parent's house, their network is stretched to the limit. The ping is much higher, the ISP provided bandwidth lower.

I own a personal MBP and 2 work MBPs. I am still in the market for a laptop like this. I would buy this for the express intent of being able to game when I go visit my parents. I'm usually visiting them for 1-2 weeks at a time. I dont want to transport my gaming desktop for a visit of that length. Apple laptops are just not the same use case as this laptop.

Can't play Halo Infinite on an MBP. Can't on this one either but I can at least attempt to dualboot Windows.
HalcyonicStorm··on Ask HN: Do you have some well written resources on how to learn K8s as a dev?
You should start with the Kubernetes docs and then read the tutorials. Start with the tutorial but you should really read all the documentation. Its actually not too long a read.

1) https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/overview/components/ 2) https://kubernetes.io/docs/tutorials/kubernetes-basics/ 3) https://kubernetes.io/docs/tasks/run-application/

After reading these documents and doing the tutorials, its a matter of gaining experience.

HalcyonicStorm··on Ask HN: I’d like to hire a personal/executive assistant – any tips or advice?
OP here. While the company is focused on helping entrepreneurs with their businesses, setting up their processes, and planning their roadmaps, I've gotten help with such tasks too. I've had doctors appointments scheduled, a gym membership cancelled, research buying gifts etc. I'm also not the strongest writer so I had help drafting letters.

Disclaimer: I am a friend of the founder. I have no financial interest in the company.

HalcyonicStorm··on Ask HN: I’d like to hire a personal/executive assistant – any tips or advice?
I want to plug a friend's company that she bootstrapped: https://www.chatterboss.com/. They offer remote executive assistants on demand. There is no commitment. You pay for the hours they work for you.

They care very deeply about the personality match between you and your assistants. On top of that, they strongly believe in documentation and a cover system so you'll always have coverage even if your primary assistant is unavailable.

They specialize in supporting entrepreneurs. They are a small company so every client is valued and given a personal touch.

HalcyonicStorm··on Consistent Fitness – Get Six Pack Abs in 16 Weeks
That price point is what I pay my coach. She inputs my plan on Final Surge. I'm getting lifting, running, and biking plans. I can schedule a call, email, whatever to get her feedback. She knows me on a personal level including who I am, my history, who my training partners are, what races I want to participate in, etc.

I'm not willing to pay the same price for that because I know that the service will only get more generic as there are more clients.

I'm sure its great for people who want to work from home and dont know where to start and dont have a support structure.

I'm planning on learning Unreal Engine this year. I had purchased some courses on Udemy including the Unreal Engine C++ Developer course. I've been wanting to pick this up for a while so my personal OKR is to finish this course in the next 3 months.

I'm also here with you. I don't get the issue. I know some fonts are more easily readable than others. I can understand the argument that maybe some fonts cause more strain than others. But there are other commenters who are saying that this font type is evoking emotions from them, particularly negative emotional ones. I don't get it.

HalcyonicStorm··on Elixir lang 1.10.0-rc0
We use it at our company for our inventory system. We make hundreds of concurrent http requests per minute and parse json and soap responses that are up to 8 MB in size. We're a tiny team, so while its possible to accomplish this in many tech stacks, functional programming, pattern matching, immutable variables and other Elixir/Erlang features make it easy to release a stable product quickly. This project has been in production for 2.5 years and has been working beautifully.

HalcyonicStorm··on Are Black Holes Actually Dark Energy Stars?
I agree with your statement, but we're discussing physics reporting in the news. They are aiming for eyeballs and ad clicks, not for emanating understanding of the topic.
HalcyonicStorm··on Are Black Holes Actually Dark Energy Stars?
I would argue that one of the reasons why physics news has been quiet is because the state of the field has moved beyond a lay person's understanding at more than a high level.

HalcyonicStorm··on Ask HN: What Are Your New Years Resolutions or 2018 Goals?
2017 was a great year for me professionally, where I shipped a few initiatives that I'm proud of. I now work in elixir full-time, which was a goal of mine.

For 2018, I plan on branching out into new hobbies. I'm in danger of becoming a one dimensional person. I think about code most of my waking hours and most of my friends are engineers too. I plan on picking up biking, taking dance classes, or improv classes to meet new people.
