I think you mean interactive document.

Gurkenmaster··on JVM implementation challenges: Why the future is hard but worth it [pdf]
Oracle already released new SPARC processors that are optimized for the Oracle DB and Java: https://blogs.oracle.com/rajadurai/entry/sparc_m7_chip_32_co...
Gurkenmaster··on Scala.js no longer experimental
It's already out in Java 8 but the parser can choke on large js files. I tried loading some Ceylon code compiled to js into the webview but it froze. I think it will have the same problem with Scala.js
Gurkenmaster··on Scala.js no longer experimental
Ceylon does this when compiling to JS because it has to support reified generics both on the jvm and in the browser. I don't like the size of the model though. It's huge.

Lua was made with embedding in mind. You can start a VM with an empty global environment (no standard libraries etc..) but there is not a big benefit in jumping from js to lua because they are so similar.
Gurkenmaster··on JSON, interfaces, and go generate
How does this deal with deserializing json arrays? Unless you have reified generics it's impossible. This is a common headache when working with Jackson.

Google just has better advertising because that is Google's core business.

Gurkenmaster··on What Color Is Your Function?
FRP has nothing to do with this. Concurrency is only an implementation detail of FRP.
Gurkenmaster··on Some notes on Rust
>The cognitive overhead of having the value of a function be the last expression in it is incredibly minor; lots of languages have this feature.

This can cause performance problems in Coffescript because for loops are also expressions.

Gurkenmaster··on BEP 30: Merkle hash torrent extension
It's not new. The document was created in 2009.

Do you think the servers of multiplayer games also run on windows?

Do you think your ISP will let your host a webserver without asking them first?
Gurkenmaster··on Thepiratebay.se is back online
Steam already does this to a certain degree but a lot of people from the higher paying countries are abusing it to get cheaper games.
Gurkenmaster··on Signing in to websites with SSH
It's possible to forward an X server over ssh via putty to Xming on Windows.
Gurkenmaster··on PlayStation 4 System Compiler Support Landing in LLVM
I don't see a reason to buy a console unless it has a large number of exclusive titles that are worth playing. (Which in itself is anti-consumer. I want the games not the hardware)

PC gaming is currently the best choice. All the freedom combined with better hardware. The only disadvantage is the high cost of entry but you can easily save money by buying games during the big sales on steam.

Handhelds are a different story though. The games are often a lot better than mobile games.

Gurkenmaster··on How Japan became a pop culture superpower
When I was still in school there were quite a few people watching anime or reading manga but they rarely talked about it in school.
Gurkenmaster··on How Japan became a pop culture superpower
Don't forget the giant robots. Either powered by courage or applied phlebotinum.

Gurkenmaster··on From Node.js to Go
What prevents me from bundling node with the app? That's how NW.js does it. (I hate the 100MB wasted space)
Gurkenmaster··on From Node.js to Go
Unless you change the settings it'll default to the Java Conventions.
Gurkenmaster··on From Node.js to Go
Don't worry! All the screws have the same size and your coin is compatible. (Go's builtin data types which have generics)

You want to use different screws? You're on your own.

Gurkenmaster··on Replace CoffeeScript with ES6
I don't like the class syntax in either ES6 or CoffeeScript.

In my opinion Ceylon nailed it:

    class Person(variable String firstName, variable String lastName) {

        shared String name => firstName + " " + lastName;

        assign name {
            value names = name.split().sequence();
            firstName = names[0] else "";
            lastName = names[1] else "";
        }
    }

Classes are effectively just closures with subtyping that export their shared members/functions.

Unrelated: A simple class like that shouldn't be mutable.

Lisp programmers would love to disagree
Gurkenmaster··on Sexism Isn't Simple (2013)
Grammatical gender and biological gender are two entirely different things. They are trying to be politicially correct in cases where the biological gender is not relevant at all.
Gurkenmaster··on Cuban youth build secret computer network despite Wi-Fi ban
Without access to the rest of the internet they'd have to rely on sneakernet to get the private server software.
Gurkenmaster··on What I Wish I Knew When Starting Out as a Software Developer: Slow the Fuck Down
That sounds more like a navigation problem than a problem with the code (unless the function names are misleading).
Gurkenmaster··on Why Small Businesses Are Starting to Win Again
Massproduction guarantees that there is no variation in quality. Whether the product is of low or high quality depends on other factors.
Gurkenmaster··on Where do the wealthiest 1% live?
France has 3.5 million with an even smaller population of 66 million so one out of twenty. Even though it's not very stable from a financial perspective.
Gurkenmaster··on Code, Eval, Play, Loop – Common Lisp OpenGL Environment
I've heard it's used for scripting and AI in some places (probably just Naughty Dog, tbh), but most of the code that goes into a game isn't in script, unless it's a slow game.

Game logic is the biggest use case for scripting. I wouldn't even think about writing the rendering code in one.
