Guestmodinfo··on Dutch Government Ditches Windows for NixOS, Following France's Lead
Who knew the year of Linux would arrive not because of tech people but because of war mongering politicians. You maybe a Democrat or a Republican but here in India everything has become sky high expensive after Trump's war.

My only illiterate bickering is that systemd may have some opaque or harder to locate american footprint which may defeat the purpose. I wish the European govts have gotten together and put up a systemd free system. There are several nice ones out there like void linux or Antix Linux or even OpenBSD yes i know it is not linux but I found it easy

Guestmodinfo··on Why Do We Need Human Mathematicians Anymore?
Mathematics is a fruit of labour fuelld by love by the mathematicians. It's not demand and supply. I don't think the majority of academic mathematicians do it because they cannot get better jobs elsewhere. Not everything is demand and supply. Things we humans do for love.....

On a side note I am not a fan of "poshenloh method" for solving quadratic equations because it only works in specific cases but actually taks longer to solve in most cases

Guestmodinfo··on More questions about whether researchers can trust OpenAI with unpublished math
The researcher in the link [0] says that OpenAI offered to co write with him the paper about Navier Stokes theorem if he only agrees to not include his co researcher who was also working on this. I find this highly unethical by multi billion dollar organisations to arm twist small and big researchers like this.

Guestmodinfo··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
....."still the original church"

The Orthodox churches may want to have a word with you. Especially the orthodox church in India founded by Thomas (one of the Jesus' 12 disciples)

Guestmodinfo··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
Christ and Christianity is well documented in all the kingdoms where it was persecuted and then the subsequent kingdoms had record of those records because one thing about kingdoms is that they don't throw away previous king's records because land records and administrative decrees are stored. Also Christians and Buddhist religions have the tradition of holding conferences that are well documented and happen after every few centuries. As an Indian I have read about records of the Buddist conferences held by various kings since after Buddha. Do I think Buddha is God. No. But he was pretty influential and impactful. The Christian conferences are also there where major theology points are discussed and confusions clarified. The records of thoe conferences exist
Guestmodinfo··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
Catholic church tries to be practical but inadvertently poisons Christianity. Christianity is way different from the Catholic church.

Because catholic church is whatever the newest model is in the distro but other distros try to be very very clean and try to follow the original texts and their meaning but catholic church is like the new iphone trying to be like whatever is the trendy trend nowadays.

Guestmodinfo··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
I just read the headline. Why should I read the article when the headline is so misleading.
Guestmodinfo··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
Get your facts correct. Buddha was more than 600 BC focus on the word "Before" while Christians and the Christian saints came after Christ.

India's ruling BJP has created a system replete with its henchmen and cronies that now the friends can loot the system of 22000 crore rupees and in return the NCLAT created by BJP orders the crony to only return 6.5 crore rupees and get away. The banks are getting a haircut of 99.97% and there is not even a media furore because henchmen and yesmen are sitting everywhere in India!
Guestmodinfo··on Manifesto – who we are and what do we want (2002)
i like the idea. I dont think it is cringe. My advice is to build up small and grow slowly. In the process prove to the world that you guys are capable of guiding your community from malicious actors so that you dont get suddenly a court order to take your servers offline or maybe have multiple servers in multiple locations. Also prove to the world along the way that you wont fold in 20 years and sell all the collected wisdom to google or openai etc. Honestly second one is too hard to do because how can you stop the scrapers from scraping your content.

i wish we invent digital landmines that will not get activated when clicked by the humans but will take down the server thats trying to scrape without permission.

Guestmodinfo··on Ask HN: LinkedIn, but only for people you've physically met?
Sounds like "LinkedIn Personal" can be launched. I hope LinkedIn listens to your and mine idea and hands us some of the profits.

One thing I want to know is that my comments can get downvoted but I cannot downvote others' comments. Initially I could downvote people's comments but for a couple of years now that ability is not showing to me. I can only upvote the comments.

People should take bible literally. And the difficult parts of it should be prayed for to God. And yes we should discuss the difficult matters with other Christians. Lot of things mentioned in the Bible are hard and may make one's heart tremble because we dont want to disappoint God. But that feeling is actually a good thing. This feeling I think is the sign that we are transforming into Christ. It gives you something to pray to God and ask for His grace and patiently wait for His answer.

Don't give much thought to what people believe in or not because it is between them and God.

It's God's grace that matters between God and me.

Being more Christlike is the best advice for any Christian.

Guestmodinfo··on Ask HN: What silly or weird web search did you do recently?
Thankyou for asking this. I have been searching this on the internet lately: i have been teaching grade 6 math. And i told them that david's star is a mathematically a curve. Because we can draw it without lifting the pencil. Then one child drew something that looked like confederate flag boundary and asked if it is also curve when drawn without lifting the pencil.

I actually confused them by drawing the 2d depiction of a closed cylinder and asking them if thats a curve. Sometimes it is interesting to discuss difficult unknown things in class. can someone plz tell me if these two figures are curves or not. The confederate flag and 2d drawing of a closed cylinder. And what book should i read to know better

Guestmodinfo··on Show HN: I built an open knowledge graph to help solve global problems together
We in India have very good people's movements who hold power to root out corruption and have impact on government but these movements' leaders have shown a tendency of getting co opted by the ruling BJP

This style is forced on us by the dislikes. I believe everyone including me walks on egg shells while writing on hacker news. Becausethe moment your words evoke a frown on someone's forehead then you are in danger of getting a barrage of dislikes. And on Hacker News some if not everyone are treating as if it's a LinkedIn where some magical collaborator or a VC would view all my posts and comments and lend me a hand and say. He you are filled with interesting ideas and expertise with the "karma" to match. Why not work with me on n my million dollar project. Atleast that's on my mind. I believe that's what many are thinking too. But since Hacker News is basically software and computer people so their writing style would look like academic too

Please please suggest me some books where language and style of speaking sentences takes the crown rather than the story being the selling point.

I'm tired of hearing about the usual greats and also booker prize ones because they have good characters and good story content or shocking emotionally but are quite bland on the language front because they assume their readers have grade 5 level capacity so the sentences are simple, the vocab is basic. Thank you vintage dave

Guestmodinfo··on Will you be wearing an exoskeleton in ten years?
No. Because machine can malfunction and may tear off my bones. I know chances are slim but still cars regularly need repairs. What if my exoskeleton needs repairs or update in software or its OS and in my laziness I ignore it and it ends up folding my body like origami. So I'm very content in my own skin. Though those who are paralyzed they would certainly enjoy its benefits and its pros will much more outweigh the cons for them

Guestmodinfo··on Countries, $100k Savings: Where should I live?
Mother Teresa was from Albania and she left her country at 19 years of age to help Indians. So that also says a lot about Albanians. I cannot help you choose because even though I went to US briefly and found the folks very welcoming and warm but I like staying in India. I feel my country needs me and that I need my country. So your experiences and aspirations may be different
Guestmodinfo··on Countries, $100k Savings: Where should I live?
Portugal as a country may feel nice. Someone I know was in Portugal for sometime and then he got into their national water polo team so they are definitely a welcoming bunch. Also I met a couple from Portugal on train in India and they felt very sweet ppl to talk to. On a side note: all foreign nationals that I have talked to, all have been equally sweet to me. And there are like 25 nationalities that I have talked to. I don't recall anyone being not sweet.

One thing about private car ownership in the US is that it is a VERY BIG country and sparsely populated so who will pay for the public transport connecting every nook and corner because in the US it's so sparsely populated. Even in India I see metro train being very successful in places which are densely populated but in states like Rajasthan which are very big and sparsely populated there public transport is a failure because who will pay for the fuel when people are not enough. Walking and public transport are good options in Europe because European countries are small and are more densely populated

Guestmodinfo··on Farmers spreading crushed glass on their crops
I read the article because it is so promising but one thing I was confused about is they kept that they kept talking about silicon in the glass but silicon is present as SiO2 and SiO4 in glass so my question is when does the silicon comes out of the silicate structure or is it the benefits of the silicate structure that they are attributing to silicon. Also as the previous comment says "why not sand" instead of glass.
