Gualdrapo··on Tailwind and slop apps
But the point of the comment is that both Bootstrap and Tailwind are facilitators when you don't know/want/care about getting your hands dirty with CSS. Tailwind happens to be a little less abstract than Bootstrap, but still you're not fiddling with "low level" CSS.

That abstraction is what brings the "sameness" factor in play, though.

Ex-bosses used it so had to test shit on them.
Gualdrapo··on Why isn't the U.S. better at soccer?
I think in that episode of John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" they put it much more simply - Here in South America (and Europe) soccer "is a religion".

Gualdrapo··on Motorola effectively bricked its entire line of WiFi routers without explanation
I don't know, my first "smart" phone was a Motorola Atrix 4G. You know, that one with (one of) the first fingerprint scanner and that thingy that allowed you to dock it to something like a laptop and thus you'd have a working laptop thingy.

Its wifi/bt card broke exactly one year after I bought it. It worked exactly for 365 days. That was 100% hardware failure and planned obsolescence.

Needless to say never bought not even looked at anything Motorola ever since.

Gualdrapo··on The Pentagon is running an AI propaganda mill targeting Latin America
I am and I can say with full certainty that the "socialism threat" paranoia in our region is incredibly stupid.

The real threat has always been corrupt governments and corporations meddling in politics that gave away the birth of guerrillas (and even sponsored them) like here in Colombia.

The "socialism bad" has been in many cases just an excuse for so many here to hold themselves in power and make the lifes of the less fortunate completely miserable.

Power just corrupts, be it from "left" or "right".

Gualdrapo··on Three Ways to Get Paid (2018)
So the author lied and they are trying to get rich?
Gualdrapo··on Please don't spam people looking for employment. It's just cruel
I'll always be grateful to HN because I got my previous job thanks to it and it was the best thing ever, but the spam thing here is absolutely true. I've getting many of ones that send a calendly link for a "collaboration partnership" with a really bogus description and from email addresses that reek to spam farms. They will send you a following email with a "Hello?" a couple hours of so after sending the first one.

The previous month also got a couple from "Mark M, the founder of kinect.io" about a "quick thought about your resume" that just sounded like they will get you into a pyramid scheme or something.

Mourning my dog, unemployed, and all I get is spam/scam emails when trying to get a job, is not nice at all.

I think you will be able to achieve that when Union is released. I hate SVG theming in Plasma so much that I root for Union to be successful
Gualdrapo··on Sony Launches Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II with 'True RGB'
Well when I got my first job at uni I bought a bravia tv just before Android TVs came out (around 2014 here), so it had whatever it was the OS before it and it was cheaper than the regular price.

Since Android TV and Google TV became the de facto OS for most of "premium brands", they stopped updating my TV around 2019 or so, and apps a bit after that. The youtube app became even more sluggish and slow, all other third party apps were gone. A couple years ago my sister messed with my TV so I did a factory reset and with that the youtube app went away too. Now it has only screen mirroring.

Which turned out to be absolutely great - I got to have a "premium brand" TV that I can keep it connected to the internet and use screen mirroring and send commands to it via its IP but it won't show any ad whatsoever because its OS is long outdated. And after 12 years everything but the "smart" part of it is working great as new. Of course it's not OLED whatsoever but I can't really care less - viewing experience is still great.

Gualdrapo··on Is AI causing a repeat of frontend’s lost decade?
> Any designer could open it and create interactive websites in it, no CSS or HTML knowledge required.

Please note that that "any designer" should have had at least a fairly decent knowledge of ActionScript because Flash wasn't all just magic and sparkles. I know this because I was one of them. Though I had to learn ActionScript by neccessity, I actually learned HTML/CSS/JS before needing to deal with AS

Gualdrapo··on Why Gentoo?
Gentoo is customizable. But really customizable. That's my #1 reason for using it.

Gualdrapo··on Photo GIMP – A Patch for GIMP 3 for Photoshop Users
Time to bring back again the (true) story of when I was working at uni and they were looking for another graphic designer to join our team. Boss told us one of the candidates refused to do the test because the computer didn't have Photoshop installed. All they needed to do with an image editor was to crop an image.

I really think most people use Photoshop for the same reason they use Windows - they don't really know/they don't want to learn anything else.

Gualdrapo··on Where Are the Vibecoded Photoshops?
Made me recall that meme about the frequency of miracles over history, saying that it plummeted with the invention of the camera, regained its momentum with Photoshop, and now they added a twist saying that miracles skyrocketed with the popularization of AI
Gualdrapo··on Klaxon a livr earthquake map with no back end
Wanted to reach the author about the possibility to help translating this to spanish but they made it a bit difficult. The /about page remits you to the /sources page for some reason, and for some other reason the /sources page remits you to hantawatch.net, which seems to be currently down. Oh well.
Gualdrapo··on Explore Wikipedia Like a Windows XP Desktop
Not sure why they downvoted you because you have a point - icons are not the same as Windows XP's, wallpaper flat color reminds me more of Win 95/98 and the taskbar design has some details that do not match precisely with Windows XP's. I'd also bet it's due to copyright concerns
Gualdrapo··on The vi family
vis is absolutely great. Wish more people were aware of it (and it's cool it is mentioned in the post) and that more people used it. I still miss some features from vim, like buffers, but feels so much snappier, lighter and intuitive - and the structural regular expressions part is outstanding.
Gualdrapo··on A web page that shows you everything the browser told it without asking

Gualdrapo··on Nobody Reviews Compiler Output
Several days ago I was toying with Rust trying to hack mmtc[0]. Mind you, I have absolutely no idea about Rust, but thanks to the verbosity and helpfulness of its compiler I was able to add a shuffle playlist feature - and am trying to figure out how to add an 'update database' feature too. At some point I even thought learning Rust could be easy...

Gualdrapo··on The Joy of Folding Bikes
I'd like to try a folding bike but (1) bromptons around here are filthy expensive and cheaper options (that can be found around 1/20th the price of a brompton) are really low quality, and (2) none of them come with big gears that I'd need to get home, with sections that can reach 22%
Gualdrapo··on Why AI Sucks at Front End

Gualdrapo··on Men are ditching TV for YouTube as AI usage and social media fatigue grow

Gualdrapo··on The truth that haunts the Ramones: 'They sold more T-shirts than records'
I seem to recall reading that Gary Holt or Jack Gibson, either from Exodus, claim that despite being known worldwide as a thrash metal act they have to support themselves selling t-shirts, since their earnings from touring, albums or streamings won't cover their expenses
Gualdrapo··on I hate: Programming Wayland applications
I'd argue the Wayland hate is much worse. Not that it might be bigger than the hate on systemd, but contrary on the case of the systemd, there are no other real alternatives to wayland nor x. Wayland is attempting to improve over x but some (really noisy) people just suffer from fear of the new.
