GreedClarifies··on US Wholesale Inflation Rises by Most in 3 Years
Fred has the data:

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CP0000EZ19M086NEST#

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/SUUR0000SA0

I’m driving, it’s difficult to put them on the same chart and normalize. But they are very similar. There are differences in methodology (housing, healthcare) but those generally add a small amount to US inflation chained index vs HICP.

GreedClarifies··on OpenAI's Lies and Half-Truths
Poor Gary. So useless but yet so loud.
GreedClarifies··on OpenAI – transformer debugger release
Let's be real. They think Elon's arguments are BS since he bought Twitter and he destroyed their Leftie safe space.

They are also very upset with Elon's very public shift away from the current Left.

It's Elon derangement syndrome.

GreedClarifies··on Goody-2, the world's most responsible AI model
About time people starting taking the "safety" teams to task.

These people are power mad and want to impose their psychological issues upon all of society.

They are a cancer.

GreedClarifies··on The AI bullshit singularity
Jesus Christ. If all I did was read hackernews comments I would think that these magical algorithms which have the potential for massive positive change don't exist and that the world is coming to and end.

I get it, engineering trains us to look for failure modes, but my god try to have a little amazement at the progress.

FFS.

Levels.fyi exists.
GreedClarifies··on Citigroup Plans to Cut 20k Jobs
Banking in the modern age is a compliance business.

It is strange and horrible that it is become like that, but that's where we are.

More sectors than one would think are primarily compliance businesses.

GreedClarifies··on Twitch to Cut 500 Employees, About 35% of Staff
IIUC their advertising machine isn't quite as general as the networks of Google and Meta, and gains a large portion of its revenue from ads on Amazon Retail, which may not be competitive.

It's a guess as to the root cause.

GreedClarifies··on Twitch to Cut 500 Employees, About 35% of Staff
What does Amazon use for their ads network?

My guess is that it just isn't competitive and so Twitch can't monetize.

Or maybe it is the demographic. But the ads network is my first guess.

GreedClarifies··on IRS to begin trial of its own free tax-filing system
The IRS should play try to create an actual MVP. Create an API which allow for efile (which I assume already exists given turbotax) and create an API which allows the download whatever information the IRS has on the tax payer.

Then allow companies or open source software to create whatever value add they want on top of these APIs.

That sounds like a minimalist launch.

GreedClarifies··on IRS to begin trial of its own free tax-filing system
From the article and from a poster below:

"For the pilot participants will have to enter their own financial information, the I.R.S. said."

It is indeed a complete waste of taxpayer money unless they actually prefill with the IRS' data.

GreedClarifies··on IRS to begin trial of its own free tax-filing system
So in its initial form it is indeed a complete waste of tax payers money.

Shocking.

GreedClarifies··on Google illegally refusing to bargain with employee union, says NLRB
Good. Addition by subtraction.
GreedClarifies··on Japan Goes All In: Copyright Doesn't Apply to AI Training
Good for Japan.

The copyright claims are spurious, the laws were never written with such powerful algorithms in mind. If copyright applies to training, and if law is based upon principles instead of raw power then such a ruling would lead to strange places.

Bravo.

GreedClarifies··on Record global temperatures and U.S. billion-dollar disasters
I see that many have noted that this is not inflation adjusted, which would be a good start.

But more importantly, this needs to be as a percentage of the total infrastructure (or real estate to make it easier to compute) in the area.

IIUC as a percentage of total real estate value the amount of damage has been going down over time, as one would expect.

GreedClarifies··on Why are things expensive?
Way better than inventing ad-hoc stores that support people's biases.
GreedClarifies··on Why are things expensive?
Inflation is everywhere and always a monetary phenomenon.

Cool website though!

GreedClarifies··on Billionaires amass more through inheritance than wealth creation, says UBS
Weighted by wealth?
GreedClarifies··on Billionaires amass more through inheritance than wealth creation, says UBS
Yet on the billionaire leaderboard the top-10 are: Musk, Arnault, Bezos, Ellison, Buffet, Gates, Zuckerberg, Balmer, Page, Bin.

Not one of them through inheritance. Sure, you have the waltons a little lower on the list.

As a person who started in the bottom decile of wealth I want to hate inheritance at least as much as the next person. But at first glance it sure doesn't look good for these "researchers".

GreedClarifies··on U.S. GDP Grew at a 5.2% Rate in the Third Quarter, Even Stronger Than Indicated
At a minimum it will automate which will increase productivity and almost certainly increase aggregate supply.

In a more AI maximal case it will solve new problems, the increase in GDP from this case is very large.

GreedClarifies··on Sam Altman returns as CEO, OpenAI has a new initial board
They clearly had nothing.

They had a couple of people on the board who had no right being there. Sam wanted them gone and they struck first by somehow getting Ilya on their side. They smeared Sam in hopes that he would slink away, but he had build so much goodwill with his employees that they wouldn't let it stand.

They probably had smeared people before and it had worked. I'm thrilled it didn't work for them this time and they got ousted.

GreedClarifies··on Charlie Munger – Feeling Like a Victim Is Perfectly Disastrous
I think he lived his own advice.

"At 31 years old, Charlie Munger was divorced, broke, and burying his 9 year old son, who had died from cancer"

But he persevered to become one of the most successful people on the planet.

No doubt he was a brilliant human and that helped tremendously, but he didn't think of himself as a victim.

GreedClarifies··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO

GreedClarifies··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
Yes, quite clearly.
GreedClarifies··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
It was a clown board running an awesome company.

They fixed the glitch.

GreedClarifies··on Before Altman’s ouster, OpenAI’s board was divided and feuding
How did she stay on the board?
GreedClarifies··on Before Altman’s ouster, OpenAI’s board was divided and feuding
Sounds like Sam was attempting to fix the board membership.

OpenAI had grown massively since some of the board members were installed. Some of them were simply not the caliber of people that one would have running such a prestigious institution, especially not with the weight they had due to the board being depopulated. Sam realized this and maybe was attempting to address the issue.

Some of the members (ahem, Helen, Tasha and to a lesser extent Adam) liked their positions and struck first, probably convincing poor Ilya that this was about AI safety.

Being lightweights they did not do any pre-work or planning, they just plowed ahead. They didn't think through that Sam and Greg have added tremendous value to the company and that the company would favor them far over the board that added zero value. They didn't think through that tech in general would see rain makers and value creators being cut loose and side with them instead of figureheads. They didn't think that partners and customers, who dealt with Sam and Greg daily would be find the move disconcerting (at a minimum). They didn't even think through who would be the next CEO.

Maybe they didn't think it through since they didn't care. There was only upside for them since Sam was going to get rid of them sooner or later. They didn't see that having been on the OpenAI board was an honor and enormous career boost. Or maybe their ambition was so great that nothing mattered but controlling OpenAI.

Further, they thought that if they slandered Sam that he would be cowed and that they would retain their power. I wonder how many times they had pulled this stunt in the past and it worked?
