Good4boothee··on An update on leaving Gmail for Fastmail
Did it also give you a tip to "log in to your usual Wifi network"? I have a feeling all large corps let their heuristics run wild with little to none supervison.
Good4boothee··on My Ten Years in No Man's Sky
That is a lot more Star Citizen players than I expected.

Also that Factorio chart is weird: https://steamdb.info/app/427520/charts/#max . I don't think I even saw another game with such steady player count. It is horizontal line after 1.0 to DLC release, and after DLC to present.

Good4boothee··on Online clinics and influencers are promoting Cialis as a longevity drug
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ototoxic_medication#Other_exam... has some sources. Worth noting NSAIDs like aspirin are also listed there.
Good4boothee··on The federal keyword lists that canceled billions in research funding
My favorites are: exclusive, historically, pollution control, systemic. There had to be an absurd amount of false positives but I doubt they care when they are anti-science in general.
Good4boothee··on Nine PBS sues Iron Mountain over blocked access to archival data
Isn't 50TB just 6 years of videos, in even the best case (1GB/h)?
Good4boothee··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
I dread the day YT finally decides it is cost effective to embed ads directly in video stream. I think Twitch is/was experimenting with it.
Good4boothee··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
Isn't that effort totally redundant? As in - plenty of people are already filling entire internet with slop for SEO purposes? And LLM slop by default is a mix of facts with few plausible but made up facts - it might be harder to craft such perfect poison on purpose.
Good4boothee··on Learn how chips are made with this Rollercoaster Tycoon-inspired animation
Captain of Industry has a simple chain that requires looping to add all layers, so there is that. Anything more complicated and it will look more like Zachtronics game.
Good4boothee··on Taste Is All That's Left
Please, I couldn't care what Pangram (or any other "detector") says. If it feels like AI, does it even matter if LLM was co-author? It lands in the same "bad writing, I won't continue to read that" category.

That said I am recently getting paranoid about YT videos, I hear Claude traces in every 5th script. If people are going to spend substantial time recording and editing, is it worth "saving" time on most important part?

Good4boothee··on Why some people mow a lawn better than others
I would be more interested in results if test case was one that requires some backtracking, even in optimal solution.
Good4boothee··on Apple is getting this wrong
> They somehow still don't have a proper product for businesses to manage Apple devices and accounts

I am not sure why that should matter. If company can handle BYOD model then they should solve that on hardware level - by issuing work phones (and other devices).

Good4boothee··on Bending Spoons makes first post-IPO acquisition with $1.3B Airtable deal
Their MO is switching to maintenance mode and running services with skeleton crew. I am not sure if it will work in area exposed to AI, where everyone is by now used to monthly updates and quarterly product releases.
Good4boothee··on Show HN: Chinese are offering Claude/Codex offers 90% off

My personal guess is some of those "providers" use inputs/outputs for training "open"weight models.

Good4boothee··on The Maxwell Conjecture Is False (GPT 5.6 Sol)
Isn't it a bit Catch 22 anyway? If someone finds a algorithm to reduce some NP task X to class P, then that just means X wasn't a true NP task and P!=NP is still undecided?
Good4boothee··on I'd not buy a LG monitor
> In what timeline is this acceptable behaviour by a fucking monitor to tell it’s manufacturer what [naughty] video you’re currently watching?

But LG already did that 10 years ago. If you didn't care then, why do you care now?

Good4boothee··on Chip stocks slide in US and Asia as AI jitters rattle investors
Both Samsung and SK Hynix had record earnings and stocks dropped 15%. It might be localized leverage craze, I am not sure it will have any impact on actual RAM production/data center construction.
Good4boothee··on Ask HN: Crooked Timber showed showed me a virus captcha, What now?
> How do you protect yourself

Was the site itself actually infected(hacked)? If not, then all you need is adblock (like ublock origin). And that was true for last 20 years.

If website actually got hacked then I don't know of any good solutions. It will be flagged soon or later, and new visitors will be blocked by "Google Safe Browsing". Using something like "Qubes OS" might protect you against attacks based on browser zero-days but VMs don't really protect against ClickFix when people usually share clipboard between host and client VMs.

Good4boothee··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
Are we really discussing NYPost article? Even freaking Daily Mail is considered to be more trustworthy among tabloids.
Good4boothee··on Microsoft is using TPM chips to crack down on pirated Windows activations
Isn't that just the LTSC version?
Good4boothee··on AI companies are shredding rare books
> A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time.

Really? That sure wasn't a thing when one startup got sued for streaming from its wall od dvd-players, and they adhered to 1 disc = maximum 1 stream at same time.
