Godel_unicode··on Secret scanning is now available for free on public repositories
As long as we’re being pedantic, no they can’t (well, I guess they can try with no hope of succeeding?). You can find a sequence of bytes which will have the same md5, but you have no way of knowing that it’s the same string of bytes which someone else used to arrive at that md5. As I alluded to in my post, that information is gone.

You’re stating confidently that python is orders of magnitude slower than it actually is because of some pseudo code, which you haven’t seen implemented, and you called into across a network link?

…do you see the problem?

With md5 hashes, the actual password isn’t there whereas base64 encoding is merely another way of representing the same bits. Yes md5 is weak, but it’s Fort Knox compared to base64.
Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
1) yes they did, I suggest you look again. 2) That’s the same thing. The end state is wanting the key material outside of the secure element, which is foolish.
Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
So I take it you’re against food safety standards, seatbelt laws, taxes on cigarettes, the clean air act, payday loan reforms, etc.

Most people will never understand this subject, and the fact that they don’t need to is a good thing. If you want a hobby, great, you can go figure out how to do that. The default needs to be safety.

So it’s not, as you previously stated, the time to compute a square root?
Godel_unicode··on A software change allowed FTX to use client money
Those times are wildly inaccurate on modern hardware with modern python, fwiw.
Godel_unicode··on The hype around esports is fading as investors and sponsors dry up
Yeah, people not caring about the teams is really just applicable to NASCAR in my experience.
Godel_unicode··on The hype around esports is fading as investors and sponsors dry up
In most sports leagues the vast majority of player income is salary from their team. There is something approaching a power law around endorsement money, even in the NBA it’s really only the top 10 earners who make more than 20-30% on their non-basketball revenue streams.
Godel_unicode··on The hype around esports is fading as investors and sponsors dry up
That’s essentially the thesis of the article, yes. Hype here refers not to the players or the fans but rather to the business side. Investors are looking for returns and not finding them.
Godel_unicode··on Not-so-great features coming soon to Windows 11
Huh? The move from x86 is hampered by making binaries compiled for x86 work on ARM, it has nothing to do with performance.
Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
What a truly psychopathic take, I really hope you’re not making decisions that effect people.
Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
Maybe, but there are also a lot of people who don’t understand the point of yubikeys that want to use them but export the secrets. Those people cannot be trusted with their own security and need to be protected from themselves.
Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
> Does a yubikey allows you to export secrets

No, that would defeat the purpose. If you want exportable secrets just use a thumb drive.

Godel_unicode··on A Yubico FAQ about passkeys
These two goals are mutually exclusive. If you let people generate their own key material outside the enclave, people will be emailing it to themselves just in case.
Godel_unicode··on FTC seeks to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard
Since you didn’t answer my question we can assume that the answer is “yes they do meaningfully compete” which is good because that’s obviously the case.

There are on the order of 10 video game companies with over a billion usd in revenue. There are 3 distinct console manufacturers (4 if you count the steam deck, 5 if you include PCs). Then there’s the mobile gaming market, which has all the big players plus a bunch of others.

Duopoly’s and small markets goodness or badness is irrelevant in this situation.

Is there an example of a company making money in gaming with NFTs? From what I recall, everyone who talked about it has backed away from it. Generally accompanied by some statement about how it has no place in gaming.

We already know how this works though, some games are flat-fee, some are based on usage.

Do you really think that Amazon and Walmart don’t meaningfully compete? What about Ford and GM? Android and iOS?

Can you expand on how that’s possible? Don’t the reset emails break you back in…?
Godel_unicode··on FTC seeks to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard
In America today, when people say “monopoly” they just mean “big”. It’s watered down to the point of being meaningless.
Godel_unicode··on FTC seeks to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard
What market does Microsoft operate in where there aren’t strong competitors? Google docs, AWS, PlayStation and Nintendo, Zoom, Chromebooks, Postgres/Oracle, Splunk/McAfee. If Microsoft exited any of those markets the competition would soak up the market share and keep right on going.

Doesn’t sound too-big-to-fail to me. Big on it’s own isn’t necessarily bad.

This also describes chess, yet that has a significant online presence.

Godel_unicode··on DHS announces extension of Real ID full enforcement deadline
Nope. As I’ve said other places in this thread we should replace the social security card and number with a modern identity system.

Currently your SSN is your client secret, but it’s a terrible one and we should replace it with a more robust secret. I shouldn’t be able to steal your identity by knowing a short number with minimal entropy.

Godel_unicode··on DHS announces extension of Real ID full enforcement deadline
Because they were invented to not be an ID, even though they got turned into one almost immediately (because of course they did). Then people dug in their heels about making a better national ID because reasons. So we’ve trudged along with a terrible one instead.
