GoblinSlayer··on Ask HN: Are others seeing Google's reCAPTCHA rejecting Firefox users?
For credential stuffing you need only one attempt.
GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
He's just rambling.
GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
It's statistics that emerges with very high probability due to the law of large numbers. If you calculate 1+1=2 with 100% probability, then quantum physics doesn't meaningfully participate in your reasoning, not more than brownian motion.
GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
You mean mind is deterministic and cancels all noise? Then what quantum physics would do there?

GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
Miscalculation doesn't follow from randomness?
GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
If particles were zero size, they would be already black holes. That's the fix introduced by string theory: particles aren't zero size there.
GoblinSlayer··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
If mind was random, people would miscalculate 1+1 with 50% probability. So earth might be flat, but it's unlikely.
GoblinSlayer··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
Benevolent dictatorship. Just live between stars, then if something blows up, nuke it from the orbit.
GoblinSlayer··on We have a year to fix security everywhere
That's quite hypothetical. I imagine it would be easier to cure psychotic breaks. At least it will start to manifest at small scale.
GoblinSlayer··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers
>But eventually you'll find the power users who do business critical stuff in excel sheets that you notice can't be done in any other way

What can't be done in any other way?

GoblinSlayer··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers
>but because of the different UI

Not a problem in the age of infinite redesign churn.

Tree is just a network topology, and if all machines in the network have the same vulnerability, you crack the whole network.

Even for gui you can use gtk2, it's stable. Will it work?
GoblinSlayer··on Internet centralization and the original sin of NAT
Maybe it's about ALG.
GoblinSlayer··on Internet centralization and the original sin of NAT
You can work it around with socks5 protocol, it's designed for such cases and it has some merit for server side: https://blog.exe.dev/ssh-host-header
GoblinSlayer··on Internet centralization and the original sin of NAT
> The all operate programs with the ambient authority of the user.

Doesn't mean much when you have a buffer overflow in kernel.

GoblinSlayer··on Internet centralization and the original sin of NAT
That can be because UPnP supports only ip4, you need PCP for ip6, but CGNAT supporting port mapping is unheard of.
GoblinSlayer··on Internet centralization and the original sin of NAT
There's DC++, Tox.
GoblinSlayer··on A 12TB Steam “teraleak” spills more than a decade of lost PC gaming history
Surely binary compatibility exists for something puny that just shuffles files?

If they climbed it without a wheelchair, it was easy mode, so not a tru achievement. If there's an easy mode, there can be a hard mode too. I thought higher difficulty modes are interesting because they make an impression of a bigger work and provide a bigger dopamine reward. If the enemy survives longer it also mean a rich gameplay.

This, blocking granularity is a country, not ip address.
GoblinSlayer··on Creepy Crawlies
The pattern described in the blog is that one ip makes 4-5 requests and never comes back.

What phone users do on git.kernel.org? In the worst case they can login (if they get to the login page).
